The problem of the logarithmic discretization of an arbitrary positive function (such as the density of states) is studied in general terms. Logarithmic discretization has arbitrary high resolution around some chosen point (such as Fermi level) and it finds application, for example, in the numerical renormalization group (NRG) approach to quantum impurity problems (Kondo model), where the continuum of the conduction band states needs to be reduced to a finite number of levels with good sampling near the Fermi level. The discretization schemes under discussion are required to reproduce the original function after averaging over different interleaved discretization meshes, thus systematic deviations which appear in the conventional logarithmic discretization are eliminated. An improved scheme is proposed in which the discretization-mesh points themselves are determined in an adaptive way; they are denser in the regions where the function has higher values. Such schemes help in reducing the residual numeric artefacts in NRG calculations in situations where the density of states approaches zero over extended intervals. A reference implementation of the solver for the differential equations which determine the full set of discretization coefficients is also described.  相似文献

The Mullins–Sekerka free boundary problem originates from the study of solidification and liquidation of materials where material is transported by diffusion. In the present paper we explore dynamics of bubbles for the Mullins–Sekerka problem. Using a set of ordinary differential equations for the radii and the centers, we numerically simulate the relevant interactions in both “two-dimensional” and “three-dimensional” settings. Our results illustrate how larger bubbles grow at the expense of smaller ones and highlight the role of additional factors such as the initial inter-bubble distance or weak asymmetries in the bubble position in the ensuing dynamics. One novel feature in comparison with earlier works is the possibility to continue for the three-dimensional case the simulation past the points where one of the bubbles disappears.  相似文献

The paper seeks to quantify the effect of urban politics on the microclimate of the city of Nantes (France), in particular those initiated by the sanitarians in the mid-19th century to find a remedy for the insalubrity that had been developing with urban densification since the late 17th century. Intensive historical research was first carried out in order to define and date the major transformations undergone by the city, its structure (densification, then widening of the streets, filling of water courses), the lifestyle habits (heating) or the building practices (appearance of stone and paving, higher buildings, insulation). This led to the definition of 5 characteristic states of the city, in 1680, 1756, 1835, 1880 and 1945.  相似文献

To meet the demand of rapid growing passenger flow, Shanghai-Century-Avenue-Transit-Center (SCATC) was reconstructed to integrate two new metro stations with the existing ones. The entire reconstruction process of SCATC involved a cluster of complicated construction cases and procedures including dismantling and restructuring of old station structures as well as deep excavations. In order to control the disturbance of the reconstruction to a minimum, a series of numerical simulations coupling with system control conceptions were conducted for optimizing the reconstruction process. All the involved major cases and their included procedures had been identified and thoroughly investigated to ensure that the incremental effect of each step and overall impact on the old or remaining stations were all within the control criterion for metro operation. The primary findings obtained were: (1) An approach of coupling system control conceptions with numerical simulations incorporated updating procedures was conducted to determine the optimal sequence for the reconstruction, and proved to be efficient and pragmatic; (2) A robust anti-upheaval system was applied and proved very effective in reducing the upheaval effects induced by dismantling structures. With the help of the anti-upheaval system, the displacements induced by subsequent actions had also been reduced much more than expected; (3) In the cutting-hole procedure on walls, by setting the hole size of per-cutting within 1 m and the hole-spacing of no less than 4 m with compensating measures for concentrated forces, the potential damages to the station structures had been prevented effectively; (4) By dividing the large pit into small independent pits with compartment walls, excavating each individual pit and forming its inside structures separately before the adjacent pit started, the rail displacement induced by the large pit excavation had been controlled within 10 mm in Shanghai soft ground; (5) The optimal overall sequence for the SCATC reconstruction was determined by investigating and comparing the effects of all construction paths defined by permutation of the major cases. The optimal sequence was executed and proved successful by the field measurements and observations.  相似文献

Although the standard k‐? model is most frequently used for turbulence modeling, it often leads to poor results for strongly swirling flows involved in stirred tanks and other processing devices. In this work, a swirling number, RS, is introduced to modify the standard k‐? model. A Eulerian‐Eulerian model is employed to describe the gas‐liquid, two‐phase flow in a baffled stirred tank with a Rushton impeller. The momentum and the continuity equations are discretized using the finite difference method and solved by the SIMPLE algorithm. The inner‐outer iterative algorithm is used to account for the interaction between the rotating impeller and the static baffles. The predictions, both with and without RS corrections, are compared with the literature data, which illustrates that the swirling modification could improve the numerical simulation of gas‐liquid turbulent flow in stirred tanks.  相似文献

A theoretical and experimental investigation of humidification-dehumidification desalination system is presented. The system is based on an open cycle for water and a closed cycle for the air stream. The air is circulated either by natural or forced circulation. The system modeling is based on various heat and mass balance equations and their numerical solution. The effect of operating parameters on the system characteristics has been investigated. An experimental test set-up has been fabricated and assembled. The set-up has been equipped with appropriate measuring and controlling devices. Detailed experiments have been carried out at various operating conditions and using several packing materials. The heat and mass transfer coefficients have been obtained experimentally and fitted in forms of empirical correlations.The results of the investigation have shown that the system productivity increases with the increase in the mass flow rate of water through the unit. Water temperature at condenser exit increases linearly with water temperature at humidifier inlet and it decreases as water flow rate increases. The higher water temperature at humidifier inlet or water flow rate, the higher is the air temperature and humidity ratio at condenser inlet and exit. A maximum productivity of 5.8 liter/h has been obtained using wooden slates packing and with forced air circulation. No significant improvement in the performance of the desalination unit has been achieved by forced circulation of air at high water temperatures. The average relative deviation of theoretical predictions from measurements is (− 0.9%) in the air temperature at condenser inlet, (3.8%) in the humidity ratio at condenser exit and (− 1%) in the water temperature at condenser exit.  相似文献

Univariate and multivariate quadratic spline quasi-interpolants provide interesting approximation formulas for derivatives of approximated functions that can be very accurate at some points thanks to the superconvergence properties of these operators. Moreover, they also give rise to good global approximations of derivatives on the whole domain of definition. From these results, some collocation methods are deduced for the solution of ordinary or partial differential equations with boundary conditions. Their convergence properties are illustrated and compared with finite difference methods on some numerical examples of elliptic boundary value problems.  相似文献

Natural convection in an air-filled (Prandtl number = 0.7) porous cavity with profiled side cooling and constant bottom heating is investigated over the Rayleigh number range of 1×104 to 1×108 at two Darcy numbers: 1×10-4 and 1×10-6. The aspect ratio based on cavity height was varied from 0.5 to 0.1 to investigate penetration length according to linear or sinusoidal temperature profile. The general non-Darcy model adopted in this work was validated against experimental and theoretical results in the literature and Nusselt number was predicted within less than 3% in the worst case. The effect of left wall imposed temperature profile was investigated in detail. Different convective regimes were observed depending on the imposed profile. An active region was found to take place with the linear temperature profile and with extent proportional to Rayleigh number as predicted by scale analysis.  相似文献

This paper presents a research programme in progress where the main objective is to study the behaviour of Weldox 460 E steel plates impacted by blunt-nosed cylindrical projectiles in the lower ordnance velocity regime. A compressed gas gun is used to carry out high-precision tests, and a digital high-speed camera system is used to photograph the penetration process. A coupled constitutive model of viscoplasticity and ductile damage is formulated and implemented into the non-linear finite element code LS-DYNA, and the material constants for the target plate are determined. The proposed model is applied in simulations of the plate penetration problem and the results are compared with test data. Good agreement between the numerical simulations and the experimental results is found for velocities well above the ballistic limit, while the ballistic limit itself is overestimated by approximately 10% in the numerical simulations.  相似文献
