The autonomic nervous system maintains homeostasis in organisms through complex neural pathways and responds adaptively to changes in the external and internal environment. The fabrication of an artificial autonomic nervous system is reported that replicates combined effects of sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves on cardiac activity and pupillary control, to mimic the regulation of autonomic nervous system to external changes. The artificial autonomic nerve-controlled pupil contraction and relaxation, modulating the rate of heartbeats for normal cardiac rhythm and arrhythmia as reflected by blink rates of a signal indicator. These functions are switched by using a parallel-channeled synaptic transistor with a special n-i-p heterostructure that has a 2D h-BN insulator in the middle to provide barrier against ion injection into the 2D MoS2 bottom n-channel and enable short-term plasticity as induced by acetylcholine, and the electrochemical doping reaction occurred at the P3HT nanowire p-channels on top to enable relatively long-term plasticity as induced by noradrenaline. Low-energy consumption down to femtojoule and an ultrahigh paired-pulse facilitation index up to ≈455% are demonstrated. An artificial neural network based on device characteristics achieves a high recognition accuracy for electrocardiogram patterns. Osteoinductive synthetic biomaterials for replacing autografts can be developed by mimicking bone hierarchy and surface topography for host cell recruitment and differentiation. Until now, it has been challenging to reproduce a bone‐like staggered hierarchical structure since the energy change underlying synthetic pathways in vitro is essentially different from that of the natural process in vivo. Herein, a bone‐like hierarchically staggered architecture is reproduced under thermodynamic control involving two steps: fabrication of a high‐energy polyacrylic acid‐calcium intermediate and selective mineralization in collagenous gap regions driven by an energetically downhill process. The intermediate energy interval could easily be adjusted to determine different mineralization modes, with distinct morphologies and biofunctions. Similar to bone autografts, the staggered architecture offers a bone‐specific microenvironment for stem cell recruitment and multidifferentiation in vitro, and induces neo‐bone formation with bone marrow blood vessels by host stem cell homing in vivo. Secretory units are most numerous in the hawthorn bugAcanthosoma haemorrhoidale and maternal bugElasmucha grisea, next most numerous in the birch bugElasmostethus interstinctus, and least numerous in the juniper bugCyphostethus tristriatus. The largest dorsal abdominal scent glands were found inCyphostetheus. Ordinary dermal glands are also present. They are most numerous along the lateral margins of the abdomen. The responses ofIps pini (Scolytidae) to multiple-funnel traps baited with the pheromone, ipsdienol, and various monoterpenes were determined in stands of lodgepole pine in southern and central British Columbia.Ips pini was attracted to both ipsdienol and -phellandrene, demonstrating that -phellandrene is a kairomone for this species.Lasconotus complex (Colydiidae) and aCorticeus sp. (Tenebrionidae) were attracted to both ipsdienol and -phellandrene.
