Presents one of three winners of the American Psychological Association's Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award (1971): Roger William Brown. Brown's research revived the concern of psychologists with the nature of meaning and with the development of cognition in relation to language. His early research on linguistic relativity clarified this difficult problem for the psychological investigator. 台湾综合科普刊物概述

本文将台湾光复以来的综合科普刊物分为三期,分别由《大众科学》、《科学月刊》、《牛顿》开端。本文胪列各期刊物,并作简要分析。本文指出,取自国外刊物将不易超越《牛顿》和《科学人》,自制刊物将不易超越《科学月刊》。本文又指出,科普刊物受到网络影响,其影响力日益减弱,但网络等新兴媒体需要内容支撑,是以科普刊物仍有其存在价值。     

科技图书出版物发展影响科学传播水平的实证研究

出版作为科学传播的主要手段,正在成为独立的力量,并在科学传播中发挥着越来越大的作用。那么,科技书刊出版业的发展究竟对科学传播起多大作用呢?本文根据现有的历年来中国新闻出版统计资料,主要分析的是传统出版物中的图书出版物,从科技图书的品种、数量、结构以及阅读率的变化,分析社会对科学技术接受和利用的程度,评估科技图书出版业发展对科技传播的影响。分析发现,科技出版物的品种和印数都呈现良性发展的态势,品种齐全,印数稳定增长,内容越来越丰富和多样化,科技出版物的结构日趋优化,反映了科学技术发展的特征。突出的问题是:每种科技图书平均印数和每种科技图书平均销售量却呈下降趋势。这直接影响了科学技术传播的水平。针对科技出版物中影响科学传播水平的两方面因素,提出了3点建议。     

A Review of “Managing Electronic Resources: New and Changing Roles for Libraries”

Federal government publications are important resources for primary source information such as statistics, history, legislative intent, and more, yet it has only been in the past few years that a major focus on digitizing historical federal publications has been undertaken. Now that digitization of these publications is underway, it is important for libraries to know how many of these publications are freely available online in order to provide greater access to information, and for collection development purposes, to withdraw federal depository collections. This article analyzes the online availability of a sample population of historical federal publications from 1943–1976. Results indicate that 21% to 26.5% of the sample documents are freely available online, with the majority stored in the HathiTrust repository.     

The scientific study of groups: An editorial.

Group Dynamics: Theory, Research, and Practice seeks to revitalize the link between the scientific study of group dynamics and the application of that scientific understanding in applied settings—particularly those settings involving deliberate attempts to help individuals achieve desired personal and interpersonal change. To accomplish this goal, the editor plans to publish the highest quality theoretical, empirical, and practical articles dealing with groups in general and therapeutic groups in particular. 将现代工业企业生产组织的科学管理方法与出版物编辑、出版诸生产过程时间组织的管理实践相结合，通过对出版物生产周期的构成和编辑出版过程中书稿的３种不同移动方式———顺序移动方式、平行移动方式、平行顺序移动方式的分析，研究出版物生产过程的空间组织和时间控制，提高编辑出版工作效率，缩短出版物生产周期。     

Assessing the research activity of Canadian psychology departments with graduate programmes.

The present study sought to provide a comprehensive assessment of the recent research activities within and across all Canadian psychology departments with graduate programmes. The quantity and quality of each department's research activity were measured by peer-reviewed article publication count and citation indexing of those publications, respectively. Each institution's h-factor was provided as a supplementary index of research industriousness. An additional index of change in research activity over time—the slope—was also provided. Data were assessed from 1900–2008 as well as for 5-year time spans from 1994–1998, 1999–2003, and 2004–2008. Overall, results indicated that the most recent 5 years have seen a significant increase in article publications across departments. More comprehensive results of the relative comparability of departments are included. Implications for future research are discussed. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)
