Extended field trial testing of the PhytO3 technology (applying sequentially and rapidly electrolyzed water, ozone in water, and UV-C radiation to control insects and replace chemical sprays) was conducted in Brazil on growing soy bean crops during December 2006 to March 2007. Despite the very poor growing conditions because of excessive rainfalls, the test crops all reached harvest and provided significant economic benefits to the farmer. Details of the testing program are described. In addition to eliminating the need for pesticides and insecticides, crops treated by the PhytO3 technology qualify as organic-grown crops, and therefore command about double prices on world markets. 相似文献

Acanthoscelides obtectus (Say) and Zabrotes subfasciatus (Boheman) are the main bruchid pests of stored beans in widespread regions of Latin America and Africa. Host-plant resistance based on the protein arcelin is effective in reducing damage caused by Z. subfasciatus, but beans containing arcelin remain susceptible to A. obtectus. The compatibility of combining arcelin resistance with biological control by Dinarmus basalis (Rondani) was investigated in climatic chambers. Three arcelin containing bean varieties with high and intermediate resistance towards Z. subfasciatus (RAZ 36, RAZ 94 and RAZ 104) and an arcelin-free standard (Calima, susceptible to both bruchids) were investigated. Immature development of A. obtectus in arcelin-containing beans was prolonged by 15% as compared to the standard, allowing D. basalis to have access to suitable host stages for a longer period of time. Over a 20-week storage period, the combined use of resistant host plants and biological control agents yielded best results with the host-plant varieties RAZ 94 and RAZ 104. In both varieties, parasitoids managed to keep bruchid damage below 1% as compared to 4.7% in the arcelin-free standard, and bruchids were eradicated in 80% of the replicates. Control levels in RAZ 36, the bean variety with the highest resistance to Z. subfasciatus, were not greater than the standard. Our results show that the combination of certain arcelin-enriched bean varieties with the parasitoid D. basalis is favourable for suppressing damage by A. obtectus. 相似文献

The effect of different germination conditions, namely, germination time and total presence or absence of light, on the content of the various nitrogen fractions, three essential protein amino acids (Lys, His, and Tyr) and one non-protein amino acid (Orn), was studied in peas, beans, and lentils. The influence of light during germination on the parameters considered varied according to the legume but on the whole was less important than the influence of germination time in quantitative terms. In all three legumes, prolonging the germination time yielded flours that contained more non-protein nitrogen (NPN) and Orn and less protein nitrogen (PN) and Lys, while the changes in the His and Tyr contents varied with legume type. In addition, changes in the Lys, Tyr, and Orn contents correlated with the changes in the NPN and PN levels in the germinated legumes. 相似文献

Dietary fibre (DF) from different whole grains and beans (quinoa, buckwheat, highland barley, pea and mung bean) was extracted by enzymatic action. The components, crystallinity and properties were comparatively studied. Furthermore, we evaluated correlations between DF components and their crystallinity, thermal, physicochemical and functional properties. Results showed quinoa DF had highest polyphenol (25.58 mg GAE per 100 g), pectin (4.68%) and cellulose (52.34%) contents, crystallinity value (CV, 30.24%), ΔH (185.53 J g−1), water-holding capacity (WHC, 5.35 g g−1), α-amylase activity inhibition ratio (α-AAIR, 13.34%) and glucose absorption capacity (GAC), but lowest protein content (9.78%) and Tp (163.05 °C). Mung bean DF had highest lignin content (33.56%), fat adsorption capacity (4.73 g g−1), and Tp (176.25 °C), but lowest CV (15.26%) and ΔH (132.15 J g−1). Correlation analysis showed cellulose content had positive linear correlations with CV, ΔH, WHC, α-AAIR and GAC, but a negative correlation with Tp. The structure and properties of DF are largely attributed to cellulose content. 相似文献

Abstract Steady-state concentric cylinder equipment was used to determine the effective thermal conductivity of beans (Phaseolus vulgaris). The measuring cell had no heated end guards and its length to diameter ratio was 10.5. Glass beads were employed to assess the accuracy and repeatability of the experimental system under heat transfer conditions. The results agree well with those reported in the literature so that the system can be considered reliable. Corn was used to verify the system's accuracy under heat and mass transfer conditions. Again the results were satisfactory. Moisture migration was observed and measured during the tests with beans, but this behavior does not compromise thermal conductivity values if both thermal and mass transfer steady-states are correctly interpreted. The effective thermal conductivity increases linearly with increasing grain moisture content. Statistical regression leads to good estimates of the fitted parameters. 相似文献
