The objective of this study is to explore the possibility of capturing the reasoning process used in bidding a hand in a bridge
game by an artificial neural network. We show that a multilayer feedforward neural network can be trained to learn to make
an opening bid with a new hand. The game of bridge, like many other games used in artificial intelligence, can easily be represented
in a machine. But, unlike most games used in artificial intelligence, bridge uses subtle reasoning over and above the agreed
conventional system, to make a bid from the pattern of a given hand. Although it is difficult for a player to spell out the
precise reasoning process he uses, we find that a neural network can indeed capture it. We demonstrate the results for the
case of one-level opening bids, and discuss the need for a hierarchical architecture to deal with bids at all levels. 相似文献

This paper examines some of the possible legal implications of the production, marketing and use of expert systems. The relevance of a legally useful definition of expert systems, comprising systems designed for use both by laymen and professionals, is related to the distinctions inherent in the legal doctrine underlying provision of goods and provision of services. The liability of the sellers and users of, and contributors to, expert systems are examined in terms of professional malpractice as well as product liability. Over the last century, IQ scores have been steadily rising, a phenomenon dubbed the Flynn effect. Because of the Flynn effect, IQ tests are periodically renormed, making them harder. Given that eligibility for mental retardation (MR) services relies heavily on IQ scores, renormed tests could have a significant impact on MR placements. In longitudinal IQ records from 9 sites around the country, students in the borderline and mild MR range lost an average of 5.6 points when retested on a renormed test and were more likely to be classified MR compared with peers retested on the same test. The magnitude of the effect is large and affects national policies on education, social security, the death penalty, and the military. The accuracy of the prediction of criminal violence may be improved by combining psychopathy with other variables that have been found to predict violence. Research has suggested that assessing intelligence (i.e., IQ) as well as psychopathy improves the accuracy of violence prediction. In the present study, the authors tested this hypothesis by using a contemporary measure of psychopathy, the Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (R. D. Hare, 2003), in a sample of 326 European American and 348 African American male offenders. The postdictive power of psychopathy was evident for both ethnic groups and robust across most changes in the operationalization of violence and the analysis conducted, whereas the postdictive power of IQ was not. One major bottleneck in the automation of the drilling process by robots in the aerospace industry is drill condition monitoring. This paper describes a system approach to solve this problem through the advancement of new machine design, sensor instrumentation, metal-cutting research, and intelligent software development. All drill failures can be detected and distinguished: chisel edge wear, flank wear, crater wear, margin wear, corner wear, breakage, asymmetry, lip height difference, and chipping at lips. However, in the real manufacturing environment, different workpiece materials, drill size, drill geometry, drill material, cutting speed, feed rate, etc. will change the criteria for judging the drill condition. The knowledge base used for diagnosing the drill failures requires a huge data bank and prior exhaustive testing. A self-learning scheme is therefore introduced to the machine in order to acquire the threshold history needed for automatic diagnosis by using the same new tool under the same drilling conditions. 相似文献

熔喷生产最终产品质量的控制,对于过程优化具有重要的意义。产品质量的在线检测是过程监测与质量控制必不可少的。本文首次在熔喷系统中引入人工智能的研究方法,对熔喷非织造布的厚度与纤维直径进行在线预测。实测数据与人工神经网络的预测结果吻合较好,从而证实了人工神经网络用于模拟熔喷过程的可行性。网络的输入包括:挤出机温度、喷头温度、熔融体挤出速率、空气流率及接收距离。神经元计算的输出是纤维直径与熔喷非织布的厚度。文中进一步提出了将神经网络与专家系统相结合的研究路线,以实现熔喷过程的优化控制。 相似文献
