The aim of the present study was to investigate sources of variation of milk composition and technological characteristics routinely collected in field conditions in the Italian dairy industry. A total of 40,896 bulk milk records from 620 herds and 10 regions across Italy were analyzed. Composition traits were fat, protein, and casein percentages, urea content, and somatic cell score; and technological characteristics were rennet coagulation time, curd firming time, curd firmness 30 min after rennet addition to milk, and titratable acidity. Data of herd bulk milks were analyzed using a model that included fixed effects of region, herd nested within region, and season of milk analysis. An average good milk quality was reported in the dairy industry (especially concerning fat, protein, and casein percentages), and moderate to high correlations between composition and technological traits were observed. All factors included in the statistical model were significant in explaining the variation of the studied traits except for region effect in the analysis of casein and somatic cell score. Northeast and central-southern Italian regions showed the best performance for composition and technological features, respectively. Traits varied greatly across regions, which could reflect differences in herd management and strategies. Overall, less suitable milk for dairy processing was observed in summer. Results of the present study suggested that a constant monitoring of technological traits in the dairy industry is necessary to improve production quality at herd level and it may be a way to segregate milk according to its processing characteristics.  相似文献

Application of random regression models (RRM) in a 2-step genomic prediction might be a feasible way to select young animals based on the complete pattern of the lactation curve. In this context, the prediction reliability and bias of genomic estimated breeding value (GEBV) for milk, fat, and protein yields and somatic cell score over days in milk (DIM) using a 2-step genomic approach were investigated. In addition, the effect of including cows in the training and validation populations was investigated. Estimated breeding values for each DIM (from 5 to 305 d) from the first 3 lactations of Holstein animals were deregressed and used as pseudophenotypes in the second step. Individual additive genomic random regression coefficients for each trait were predicted using RRM and genomic best linear unbiased prediction and further used to derive GEBV for each DIM. Theoretical reliabilities of GEBV obtained by the RRM were slightly higher than theoretical reliabilities obtained by the accumulated yield up to 305 d (P305). However, validation reliabilities estimated for GEBV using P305 were higher than for GEBV using RRM. For all traits, higher theoretical and validation reliabilities were estimated when incorporating genomic information. Less biased GEBV estimates were found when using RRM compared with P305, and different validation reliability and bias patterns for GEBV over time were observed across traits and lactations. Including cows in the training population increased the theoretical reliabilities and bias of GEBV; nonetheless, the inclusion of cows in the validation population does not seem to affect the regression coefficients and the theoretical reliabilities. In summary, the use of RRM in 2-step genomic prediction produced fairly accurate GEBV over the entire lactation curve for all analyzed traits. Thus, selecting young animals based on the pattern of lactation curves seems to be a feasible alternative in genomic selection of Holstein cattle for milk production traits.  相似文献

In dairy production, high fertility contributes to herd profitability by achieving greater production and maintaining short calving intervals. Improved management practices and genetic selection have contributed to reversing negative trends in dairy cow fertility, but further progress is still required. Phenotypes included in current genetic evaluations are largely interval and binary traits calculated from insemination and calving date records. Several indicator traits such as calving, health, variation in body condition score, and longevity traits also apply to genetic improvement of fertility. Several fertility traits are included in the selection indices of many countries, but for improved selection, the development of novel phenotypes that more closely describe the physiology of reproduction and limit management bias could be more effective. Progesterone-based phenotypes can be determined from milk samples to describe the heritable interval from calving to corpus luteum activity, as well as additional measures of cow cyclicity. A fundamental component of artificial insemination practices is the observation of estrus. Novel phenotypes collected on estrous activity could be used to select for cows clearly displaying heat, as those cows are more likely to be inseminated at the right time and therefore have greater fertility performance. On-farm technologies, including in-line milk testing and activity monitors, may allow for phenotyping novel traits on large numbers of animals. Additionally, selection for improved fertility using traditional traits could benefit from refined and accurate recording and implementation of parameters such as pregnancy confirmation and reproductive management strategy, to differentiate embryonic or fetal loss, and to ensure selection for reproductive capability without producer intervention. Opportunities exist to achieve genetic improvement of reproductive efficiency in cattle using novel phenotypes, which is required for long-term sustainability of the dairy cattle population and industry.  相似文献

Genetic effects on milk production traits in dairy cattle might change during lactation. However, most genome-wide association studies (GWAS) for milk production traits assume that genetic effects are constant during lactation. This assumption might lead to missing these quantitative trait loci (QTL) whose effects change during lactation. This study aimed to screen the whole genome specifically for QTL whose effects change during lactation. For this purpose, 4 different GWAS approaches were performed using test-day milk protein content records: (1) separate GWAS for specific lactation stages, (2) GWAS for estimated Wilmink lactation curve parameters, (3) a GWAS using a repeatability model where SNP effects are assumed constant during lactation, and (4) a GWAS for genotype by lactation stage interaction using a repeatability model and accounting for changing genetic effects during lactation. Separate GWAS for specific lactation stages suggested that the detection power greatly differs between lactation stages and that genetic effects of some QTL change during lactation. The GWAS for estimated Wilmink lactation curve parameters detected many chromosomal regions for Wilmink parameter a (protein content level), whereas 2 regions for Wilmink parameter b (decrease in protein content toward nadir) and no regions for Wilmink parameter c (increase in protein content after nadir) were detected. Twenty chromosomal regions were detected with effects on milk protein content; however, there was no evidence that their effects changed during lactation. For 5 chromosomal regions located on chromosomes 3, 9, 10, 14, and 27, significant evidence was observed for a genotype by lactation stage interaction and thus their effects on milk protein content changed during lactation. Three of these 5 regions were only identified using a GWAS for genotype by lactation stage interaction. Our study demonstrated that GWAS for genotype by lactation stage interaction offers new possibilities to identify QTL involved in milk protein content. The performed approaches can be applied to other milk production traits. Identification of QTL whose genetic effects change during lactation will help elucidate the genetic and biological background of milk production.  相似文献

There has been a great deal of debate concerning the antecedents of anger, with appraisal theorists emphasizing the role of hostile interpretations and cognitive neo-associationistic theorists emphasizing the role of more basic associative processes. Recently, theorists have sought to reconcile these views by acknowledging the role of both associative and inferential processes, and the current investigation drew upon recent social–cognitive research to test this compromise. Individual differences in hostile inferences and associations were assessed in an implicit cognitive paradigm, and relevant outcomes were assessed in a daily diary protocol. Implicit hostile inferences predicted both anger and aggression in daily life, and such relationships were mediated by propensities toward hostile interpretations in daily life. Hostile associations also predicted anger in daily life, but this relationship proved to be independent of daily hostile interpretations. In this paper, we propose a performance driven methodology for cancelable face templates generation. This is to address the issue of satisfying both the security and performance requirements at the same time. Essentially, the methodology consists of two transformations namely, an efficient feature extraction transformation and an error minimizing template transformation. The first transformation is achieved via a modified sparse random projection which extracts and transforms essential face features into cancelable templates. The second transformation is realized through a direct objective formulation to minimize the system's total error rate. In order to facilitate convergence of the resulted minimization search, a modified sigmoid is proposed for an error counting step function approximation. Using two publicly available face databases, we empirically show an improved verification performance in terms of the equal error rate while hiding the face identity simultaneously.  相似文献

定位是无线传感器网络最为重要的一项基础工作,目前的定位算法无一例外需要依靠参考节点的位置信息对非参考节点进行定位,然而当参考节点的位置信息受到攻击或误差影响之后,定位算法的精确度会受到极大的影响。文章列举了若干攻击方法,并提出了一种基于VNRP(Von Neumann Rejection Principle)的三边测量定位算法TVNRP(Trilateration Based onVNRP)。建造了一个可能遭受攻击的模拟环境,并将改进后的定位算法和原算法在该环境进行性能比较,实验结果表明改进后的算法具有良好的健壮性。  相似文献
