This paper proposes a method to schedule loading operations when multiple yard cranes are operating in the same block. The
loading scheduling methods in this paper are based on a genetic algorithm and a simulated annealing method, which consider
interferences between adjacent yard cranes. It attempts to minimize the make-span of the yard crane operation. We consider
the container handling time, the yard crane travel time, and the waiting time of each yard crane, when evaluating the makespan
of the loading operation by yard cranes. An encoding method considering the special properties of the optimal solution of
the problem is suggested. Numerical experiment was conducted to compare performances of the algorithms suggested in this study.

International seaborne trade rose significantly during the past decades. This created the need to increase capacity of existing marine container terminals to meet the growing demand. The major objective of this paper is to evaluate the floaterm concept using simulation modeling and determine if it can improve terminal productivity. The main difference between floaterm and conventional marine container terminals is that, in the former case, transshipment containers are handled by off-shore quay cranes and stored on container barges. Two terminal configurations performance is compared (vessel handling times and equipment utilization) under normal and disruptive conditions. Computational experiments confirm preliminary expectations that the floaterm concept can enhance efficiency of marine container terminal operations under normal and disruptive conditions. 相似文献

Drinking, unlike eating, always involves direct contact with the container in which a drink happens to be held. In our everyday lives, we typically consume beverages from glasses, cups, mugs, cans, bottles, and via straws. In this article, we consider the impact that the physical and sensory properties of a drink’s container can have on people’s perception of the contents. We investigate what happens to the perception of a beverage when the appropriateness of the container (to the contents) is varied. Furthermore, we also review the latest evidence showing that people’s consumption behaviours can be influenced by the shape of the cup or glass. The vessel in which a drink is consumed has been shown to affect everything from a consumer’s hedonic response to the beverage through to how refreshing they find it. Taken together, then, the available evidence currently supports the view that the vessels from which we drink exert a far greater influence over our perception of the sensory and hedonic qualities of the contents, and on our consumption behaviours, than is often realized. Finally, some of the current marketing opportunities in the area of branded and sensorially enhanced glassware are highlighted. 相似文献

As maritime container transport is developing rapidly, the need arises for efficient operations at container terminals. One of the most important determinants of container handling efficiency is the productivity of quay cranes, which are responsible for unloading and loading operations for container vessels. For this reason, the Quay Crane Assignment Problem (QCAP) and the Quay Crane Scheduling Problem (QCSP) have received increasing attention in the literature and the present paper deals with the integration of these interrelated problems. A formulation is developed for the Quay Crane Assignment and Scheduling Problem (QCASP), which accounts for crane positioning conditions and a Genetic Algorithm (GA) is developed to solve the QCASP. Both the model formulation and the solution methodology are presented in detail and computational analysis is conducted in order to evaluate the performance of the proposed GA. The results obtained from the GA are compared with the results from an exact technique, thus providing complete information about the performance of the heuristic in terms of solution quality. 相似文献
