The anticorrosive performance of two inhibitive pigments, zinc chromate and zinc phosphate, was compared using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and the scanning vibrating electrode technique (SVET) in pigment extracts in 0.1 M NaCl. It was observed that zinc was protected from corrosion in both extracts. In tests using hot dip galvanised steel painted with an epoxy primer incorporating the pigments, the SVET detected the anodic and cathodic distribution along the scribes, although no significant differences were observed among the various primers. On the contrary, EIS was able to distinguish processes occurring on the metal surface exposed by the scribe in different samples. For primers with anticorrosive pigment, a time constant at high frequencies was attributed to a layer of protective nature, probably formed by metal ions from the substrate and inhibitive ions leached from the anticorrosive pigments.  相似文献

Polyaniline (PANi), poly(2-chloroaniline) (PClANi), and poly(aniline-co-2-chloroaniline) (co-PClANi) films were synthesized by electrochemical deposition on 304-stainless steel (SS) from an acetonitrile solution. The structural properties of these polymer films were characterized by spectroscopic (FTIR and UV–vis) and electrochemical (cyclic voltammetry) methods. Open circuit potential–time (Eocp–time) curves, potentiodynamic polarization, and electrochemical impedance (EIS) measurements showed that these films have significant protective performance against corrosion of SS in 0.5 M HCl solution. It was found that co-PClANi film has acted as a passivator as well as barrier for cathodic reduction reaction in a similar manner as PANi film. However, PClANi film has behaved only as barrier for corrosion protection of SS in 0.5 M HCl.  相似文献

Permeability of a polymer plays an important role in conferring the protective ability of organic coating to the steel surface against atmospheric corrosion. Although the relationship between structure of polymers and their permeability has been extensively studied in various applications like membranes, packaging, etc., such detailed study is lacking in the area of coatings. The systematic study of structure–permeability relationship of polymers in clear coatings can give guidelines in selecting the binder for the required application. This article deals with the effect of introduction of structural defects into a straight chain aliphatic polyesters on the protective ability of their clear coatings against corrosion. The mild steel panels coated with clear coatings based on the polyesters were exposed to humidity in humidity chamber. A novel technique of detecting the onset of corrosion was used instead of conventional methods that detect the failure of the coating due to corrosion. It was observed that even at 1–10% mole defect introduced by replacement of straight chain diols with branched diols, the protective ability of clear coatings was affected drastically.  相似文献

Epoxy resin is chosen for our present study owing to its exceptional combination of properties such as easy processing, high safety, excellent solvent and chemical resistance, toughness, low shrinkage on cure, good electrical, mechanical and corrosion resistance with excellent adhesion to many substrates. This versatility in formulation made epoxy resins widely applied for surface coatings, adhesives, laminates, composites, potting, painting materials, encapsulant for semiconductor and insulating material for electric devices. There are numerous paint/coating systems based on epoxy resin available for corrosion and fouling prevention. They however are not completely satisfactory in field applications, where high corrosion, fouling and flame resistance are required. The demand for epoxy resin as corrosion/fouling resistant coatings is restricted mainly due to its inferior characteristics like poor impact strength, high rigidity, and moisture absorbing nature besides inadequate flame retardant properties. It is for this reason that silicones and phosphorus-based compounds are used as modifier in this work by intercrosslinking network mechanism (ICN) to obtain epoxy resin with desired properties ideally suitable for field applications for preventing corrosion and fouling with flame retardantancy. The present work involves the development of solvent free silicone/phosphorus modified epoxy coating systems, since solvent free coating systems are widely used for numerous applications due to their lower cost per unit film thickness, freedom from fire and pollution hazard and ability to provide better performance. For the development of coating systems, epoxy resin (X) serves as base material, hydroxyl terminated polydimethylsiloxane (HTPDMS) as modifier, γ-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (γ-APS) as crosslinking agent and dibutyltindilaurate (DBTDL) as catalyst. Polyamidoamine (A), aromatic amine adducts (B) and phosphorus-containing diamine (C) were used as curing agents. The study also describes the evaluation of corrosion resistant behaviour of unmodified epoxy and siliconized epoxy coatings by potentiodynamic polarization method, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), salt-spray and antifouling tests. The inhibition of pure iron in 1 M HCl by new synthesised pyridazine compounds has been studied by weight loss, electrochemical polarisation and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements. The results obtained reveal that these compounds are efficient inhibitors. The inhibition efficiency increases with the increase of inhibitor concentration and reached 98% at 10−4 M for 5-benzyl-6-methyl pyridazine-3-thione. Potentiodynamic polarisation studies clearly reveal that the presence of pyridazines does not change the mechanism of hydrogen evolution and that they act essentially as cathodic inhibitors. The temperature effect on the corrosion behaviour of pure iron in 1 M HCl without and with the pyridazines at 10−4 M was studied in the temperature range from 298 to 353 K. EIS measurements show that the increase of the transfer resistance with the inhibitor concentration.  相似文献

The electrosynthesis of polypyrrole (PPy) has been achieved on aluminium in aqueous medium of tartaric acid by means of cyclic voltammetry, potentiostatic and galvanostatic techniques. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray microanalysis by energy spectroscopy dispersion (EDS) applying on surfaces show that the PPy coating is developed from the metal surface through the cracks of the initial Al2O3 layer.A mechanism involving the participation of the supporting electrolyte and the pyrrole (Py) in distinct active sites was proposed based on the linear sweep voltammetry. It is observed for all applied electrochemical techniques that the pyrrole concentration has to be higher than 0.1 M to allow the polypyrrole electrodeposition in acid medium.Scanning electron microscopy, secondary electrons (SE) and backscattering electrons (BE), shows that the PPy coating obtained in galvanostatic and potentiostatic modes starts with small islands at weak applied potentials or current densities. Moreover, EDS reveals a good homogeneity and compactness of the film achieved in galvanostatic method. The corrosion results in 3% NaCl medium show that the PPy coating decreases the corrosion behaviour of the aluminium. The bilayer Al2O3/PPy shows a capacitor with future applications.  相似文献

Steel microfiber reinforcement was previously found to be successful in mitigating alkali silica reaction in concrete, an expansive phenomenon. The use of steel microfibers to mitigate rebar corrosion, another expansive reaction, was investigated. Mortar specimens with and without steel microfiber reinforcement were exposed to a corrosive environment. All specimens were prepared with water/cement ratios of both 0.40 and 0.55, cured for 28 days, and then submerged in aerated 3.5% NaCl solution. The corrosion behavior of the specimens was monitored via electrochemical measurements. Three types of electrochemical tests were performed: corrosion potential measurements, potentiodynamic polarization, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Chloride concentration measurements and microscopic analysis were performed as well. The polarization curves, Tafel, and polarization resistance measurements indicate that the steel rebar in the microfiber-reinforced mortars are more resistant to corrosion than the rebar in the control mortars, despite higher chloride concentrations. Furthermore, the steel microfiber-reinforced cement based materials have a lower electrolytic resistance. This is not indicative of a higher corrosion rate, which would be the case if it had been observed in standard mortar specimens.  相似文献

Leaching and characterisation studies have been undertaken on two chromate-inhibited epoxy polyamide primers. Leaching was carried out in 5% (w/v) NaCl solutions at different pH values (1, 3, 5 and 7) and the amount of Cr released into solution was monitored over time. Cr release was initially high, but as the immersion time increased the leaching from the primers slowed. Prior to and after immersion, the primers were characterised by a number of techniques including electron microprobe analysis, X-ray microdiffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy. The unexposed primers were found to contain the inorganic phases SrCrO4, BaSO4 and TiO2 (anatase or rutile). Upon immersion, water uptake by the primers was observed, together with a decrease in the amount of SrCrO4 in the primers. These studies provide insights into the mechanism of chromate leaching from inhibited primers.  相似文献
