Process intensification in distillation systems has received much attention during past decades, with the aim of increasing both energy and separation efficiency. Various techniques, such as internal heat‐integrated distillation, membrane distillation, rotating packed bed, dividing‐wall columns and reactive distillation were studied and reported in the literature. All these techniques employ the conventional continuous counter‐current contact of vapor and liquid phases. Cyclic distillation technology is based on an alternative operating mode using separate phase movement which leads to key practical advantages in both chemical and biochemical processes. This article provides a mini‐review of cyclic distillation technology. The topics covered include the working principle, design and control methods, main benefits and limitations as well as current industrial applications. Cyclic distillation can be rather easily implemented in existing columns by simply changing the internals and the operating mode, thus bringing new life to old distillation towers by significantly increasing the column throughput, reducing the energy requirements and offering better separation performance. © 2016 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Data transformation, an important part of report generation, converts the layout of source data into a new layout suitable for presentation. Many report tools have been developed for end-users to specify data transformation. However, current report tools only support a limited set of report layouts. This paper proposes a visual dataflow programming language, called VisualTPL, to resolve this problem. Data transformation is accomplished by writing graphical dataflow programs, which manipulate tables as first-class objects with a set of extendable table operations. A report tool, called VisualTPS, has been developed to offer an easy and intuitive end-user programming environment. Reports with sophisticated layouts can be created through top-down decomposition and incremental development. An evaluation has been conducted to assess end-users' performance with VisualTPL. The results indicated that end-users could learn VisualTPL in a short time and create complicated report layouts all by themselves. And, in comparison with a commercial report tool, VisualTPL offered end-users similar performances and was preferred over the commercial tool.  相似文献

Criteria have been suggested to reduce the incidence, or severity of low back pain disability. Five underlying theories for such criteria have been identified in the literature, and a critical review of the validity of these criteria has been carried out. Despite attributions elsewhere, peer-reviewed validation of the various criteria range from modest to nil. The need for a validation criterion for use in workplace design in order to reduce low back pain disability, or severity, is identified and the need for an international protocol to allow cross-study validation of present and future criteria is suggested.  相似文献

Polymeric and non-polymeric materials often crystallize as spherulites when crystallized from viscous melts or solutions at large undercooling. The essential component of a spherulite is fibrillar crystals that grow in predominantly radial directions and branch irregularly. We review the growth, branching and twisting of crystals in the light of theoretical and experimental advances of the last decade, while maintaining an appreciation for historical context.The crucial role of self-generated fields ahead of the crystal–melt interface is developed. Pressure gradients from volume contraction have been treated, as well as impurity gradients ahead of a growing crystal; fibril width W is predicted and found to be proportional to δ1/2, where the diffusion length δ = D/G, the quotient of diffusivity and growth rate, conveys the extent of the field gradient. Ribbon-like spherulite radii grow at a constant rate under diffusion-coupled interface control.Non-crystallographic branching is required to maintain the volume occupied by fibrillar crystals as the spherulite radius increases. Topological giant screw dislocations and induced nucleation at cilia tethered to crystals are observed mechanisms leading to branching normal to the wide dimension of lamellar crystals; but the relative importance of each of these is not yet established. Repetitive tip splitting by kinetic interface instability has been suggested as a branching mechanism in the wide dimension of lamellar crystals.Larger molecular mass reduces the spherulite growth rate, more so at low undercoolings, for reasons that remain unresolved. Miscible diluents often profoundly reduce G by lowering both thermodynamic driving force and local transport dynamics that govern the secondary nucleation rate. Spherulite blend morphology is linked to the competition between radial growth rate G and diffusivity D of the diluent, expressed as the diffusion length δ.Polymer crystals in which chain helices all have the same sense show banded spherulites, as do crystals in which the chain axes are not perpendicular to the basal surfaces. Recent analyses with optical birefringence and X-ray micro-diffraction support the presence of helicoidally twisted ribbons, although other structural arrangements have sometimes been revealed by microscopy. Assessments of twist directions in spherulites of chiral polymers point to unbalanced basal surface stress as the source of twisting, although a general mechanical analysis is lacking. Another twisting model employs regular arrays of isochiral giant screw dislocations; results are mixed for this model.  相似文献

Hydrogen can be cited as prospective source of clean power. In this work hydrogen rich syn-gas generated from the agro-waste, empty cotton bolls was injected into an IC engine in continuous mode along with gasoline. At the air-fuel ratio of 23.40, specific fuel consumption of 0.35 kg kWh?1, the engine could be operated with higher efficiency than with gasoline alone. A distinct reduction in emission characteristics could also be seen. Empty cotton bolls derived after removal of cotton from the flower in field, was first studied for fuel properties. The reasonably high heating value (HHV) of 17.54 MJ kg?1 suggested that it could be a precursor to hydrogen via two stepped thermo-chemical process. The first step involved slow pyrolysis of the biomass at 500 °C for 60 min at a heating rate of 10 °C min?1 yielding 39.71% bio-char by weight. The C, H, N, S and O contents of the produced bio-char was 59.91, 2.91, 0.72, 0.47 and 35.99% respectively and its HHV was 26.7 MJ kg?1. Steam gasification of this bio-char, at 700 °C and water flowrate of 7 mL min?1 exhibited maximum hydrogen yield of 67.42% (v/v) in the syn-gas mixture. Subsequent enrichment of the gas using ethanolamine/ethylene diamine and KMnO4 solutions resulted in more than 90% (v/v) hydrogen in the combustible gas mixture and the test engine could be effectively operated.  相似文献

Presenting important alarms selected from a large number of activated alarms provides useful operational support under a transient status in a nuclear power plant. We have developed an alarm processing method which selects and presents important alarms depending on plant status.

In this method, important alarms are selected, first, based on physical relationships between alarms and component status including alarms themselves and second, even more important alarms are selected from the previously selected alarms according to the identified initial event causing the transient. Identification of the initial event is implemented by a neural network. The identified initial event and selected important alarms are presented to show the cause and influence of the transient.

A prototype based on the above alarm processing method was validated during the start-up test at Kashiwazaki Kariwa Nuclear Power Plant Unit Number 4 of Tokyo Electric Power Co. The initial events, which were load rejection, turbine trip and main steam isolation valve closure, were correctly identified and about 30% of all activated alarms were selected as important. It was verified by an operating expert that the presentation of the identified initial event and the selected important alarms were effective to understand rapidly and correctly the transient status of the plant.  相似文献

Battery cells being electrically disconnected resulting from degradation, mechanical stress, or corrosion can lead to hazardous situations during operation of electric vehicles or storage systems in stationary applications. The mentioned errors can be acceptable in some cases when cells or cell strings are connected in parallel, but the failure is to be detected in order to guarantee the reliable and safe operation of the battery system. A method enabling the estimation whether individual battery cells are faulty (cell error or electrically disconnected) by evaluating the mean impedance and capacity information of cell groups is introduced and validated.  相似文献
