Structure and BIBO stability of a three-dimensional fuzzy two-term control system

A novel three-dimensional fuzzy logic controller (3D FLC) was developed recently for spatially distributed systems. In this study, the inherent spatial structure feature of a 3D FLC with two spatial inputs (also called as 3D two-term FLC) is first exposed via an analytical model. Then, the global bounded-input/bounded-output (BIBO) stability of the 3D fuzzy two-term control system is discussed. A sufficient condition is derived and provided as a useful criterion for the controller design of the 3D two-term FLC. Finally, a catalytic packed-bed reactor is presented as an example of spatially distributed process to demonstrate the effectiveness of the controller.     

Fuzzy Bayesian reliability and availability analysis of production systems

To have effective production planning and control, it is necessary to calculate the reliability and availability of a production system as a whole. Considering only machine reliability in the calculations would most likely result unmet due dates. In this study, a new modelling approach for determining the reliability and availability of a production system is proposed by considering all the components of the system and their hierarchy in the system structure. Components of a production system are defined as production processes; components of the processes are defined as sub-processes. In this hierarchical structure we could model all kinds of failures such as material and supply, management and personnel, and machine and equipment. In the analysis, a fuzzy Bayesian method is used to quantify the uncertainties in the production environment. The suggested modelling approach is illustrated on an example. In the example, also a separate reliability and availability analysis is conducted which only considered machine failures, and the results of both analyses are compared.     

Group decision making process for supplier selection with VIKOR under fuzzy environment

During recent years, how to determine suitable suppliers in the supply chain has become a key strategic consideration. However, the nature of supplier selection is a complex multi-criteria problem including both quantitative and qualitative factors which may be in conflict and may also be uncertain. The VIKOR method was developed to solve multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) problems with conflicting and non-commensurable (different units) criteria, assuming that compromising is acceptable for conflict resolution, the decision maker wants a solution that is the closest to the ideal, and the alternatives are evaluated according to all established criteria. In this paper, linguistic values are used to assess the ratings and weights for these factors. These linguistic ratings can be expressed in trapezoidal or triangular fuzzy numbers. Then, a hierarchy MCDM model based on fuzzy sets theory and VIKOR method is proposed to deal with the supplier selection problems in the supply chain system. A numerical example is proposed to illustrate an application of the proposed model.

Static output feedback sliding mode control for time‐varying delay systems with time‐delayed nonlinear disturbances

In this paper, a robust stabilization problem for a class of linear time‐varying delay systems with disturbances is studied using sliding mode techniques. Both matched and mismatched disturbances, involving time‐varying delay, are considered. The disturbances are nonlinear and have nonlinear bounds which are employed for the control design. A sliding surface is designed and the stability of the corresponding sliding motion is analysed based on the Razumikhin Theorem. Then a static output feedback sliding mode control with time delay is synthesized to drive the system to the sliding surface in finite time. Conservatism is reduced by using features of sliding mode control and systems structure. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach. Highly efficient switched‐mode transmitter using a current mode class‐D RF amplifier

This article presents a switched‐mode transmitter architecture using a current mode class‐D (CMCD) amplifier. To achieve high average efficiency for a modulated signal the envelope of the complex baseband signal is transformed into pulses such that the CMCD amplifier is operated either at its peak efficiency or completely switched off. The CMCD amplifier has been designed based on single‐tone active harmonic load‐pull measurements to achieve a power‐added efficiency (PAE) of 61.5% with 25 W output power at 900 MHz using LDMOS FETs. Removing the losses of the demodulation filter and of the amplifier a 10% higher efficiency than in an ideal class‐B amplifier can be obtained for burst‐mode operation with a peak‐to‐average power ratio of 10 dB. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A current‐mode tunable low‐supply‐voltage ring oscillator

A new circuit topology using a current‐mode low‐pass filter for sinusoids has been presented. The technique is relatively simple, in the proposed circuit, only three identical current‐mode low‐pass filters are connected to each other to realize the small signal path. No external passive components are required except for three capacitors. When compared with LC oscillators, the die area of this work, without inductors, is much smaller. When compared with voltage‐mode ring oscillators, the supply voltage of this work is much lower. As a particular example, a 2.4 GHz, 1.2‐V power supply, 5‐mW sinusoidal oscillator is demonstrated. The oscillation frequency is tuned by the value of that three capacitors, over ～900 MHz, and the tuning range is 37.5%. The phase noise results in ?94 and ?120 dBc/Hz at 1 and 10 MHz from the carrier, respectively. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J RF and Microwave CAE, 2010.     

Triangular approximations of fuzzy numbers using α-weighted valuations

In this paper, a fuzzy triangular approximation using α-weighted valuations is introduced and the nearest approximation by the minimization technique is obtained, such that the computational complexity is less than that in Abbasbandy and Amirfakhrian 2006. Moreover, we investigate some reasonable properties of the α-weighted triangular approximation.
