This work is aimed at proposing an algorithm, based upon Hopfield networks, for estimating the parameters of delay differential equations. This neural estimator has been successfully applied to models described by Ordinary Differential Equations, whereas its application to systems with delays is a novel contribution. As a case in point, we present a model of dengue fever for the Cuban case, which is defined by a delay differential system. This epidemiological model is built upon the scheme of an SIR (susceptible, infected, recovered) population system, where both delays and time-varying parameters have been included. The latter are thus estimated by the proposed neural algorithm. Additionally, we obtain an expression of the Basic Reproduction Number for our model. Experimental results show the ability of the estimator to deal with systems with delays, providing plausible parameter estimations, which lead to predictions that are coherent with actual epidemiological data. Besides, when the Basic Reproduction Number is computed from the estimated parameter values, results suggest an evolution of the epidemic that is consistent with the observed infection. This paper presents a new method of occluded object matching for machine vision applications. The current methods for occluded object matching lack robustness and require high computational effort. In this paper, a new Hybrid Hopfield Neural Network (HHN) algorithm, which combines the advantages of both a Continuous Hopfield Network (CHN) and a Discrete Hopfield Network (DHN), will be described and applied for partially occluded object recognition in a multi-context scenery. A neural network model of associative memory is presented which unifies the two historically more relevant enhancements to the basic Little-Hopfield discrete model: the graded response units approach and the stochastic, Glauber-inspired model with a random field representing thermal fluctuations. This is done by casting the retrieval process of the model with graded response neurons, into the framework of a diffusive process governed by the Fokker-Plank equation, which leads to a Langevin system describing the process at a microscopic level, while the time evolution of the probability density function is governed by a multivariate Fokker Planck equation operating over the space of all possible activation patterns. The present unified approach has two notable features: (i) greater biological plausibility and (ii) ability to escape local minima of energy (associated with spurious memories), which makes it a potential tool for those complex optimization problems for which the previous models failed. 相似文献
