Multi-tier service differentiation by coordinated learning-based resource provisioning and admission control

Multiple Internet applications are often hosted in one datacenter, sharing underlying virtualized server resources. It is important to provide differentiated treatment to co-hosted applications and to improve overall system performance by efficient use of shared resources. Challenges arise due to multi-tier service architecture, virtualized server infrastructure, and highly dynamic and bursty workloads. We propose a coordinated admission control and adaptive resource provisioning approach for multi-tier service differentiation and performance improvement in a shared virtualized platform. We develop new model-independent reinforcement learning based techniques for virtual machine (VM) auto-configuration and session based admission control. Adaptive VM auto-configuration provides proportional service differentiation between co-located applications and improves application response time simultaneously. Admission control improves session throughput of the applications and minimizes resource wastage due to aborted sessions. A shared reward actualizes coordination between the two learning modules. For system agility and scalability, we integrate the reinforcement learning approach with cascade neural networks. We have implemented the integrated approach in a virtualized blade server system hosting RUBiS benchmark applications. Experimental results demonstrate that the new approach meets differentiation targets accurately and achieves performance improvement of applications at the same time. It reacts to dynamic and bursty workloads in an agile and scalable manner.     

Internet Studies and Development Discourses: The Cases of China and India

This paper investigates Internet studies in two leading developing countries (i.e. China and India) and finds that the Chinese scholarly community relies on the discourse of liberation from the state as a form of critique, whereas Indian Internet studies question the discourse of modernization to contemplate about the success and failure factors of information and communication technologies in development. The difference generally reflects the academic responses to the development discourses embraced by the two governments. We suggest that Internet studies should not only respond to the realities but also transcend the contextual constraints to direct attention to the often neglected dimensions of development, which are to make actual impacts through allowing the people and the communities to define their own development discourses as well as building research institutions that are oriented to influence policy-making.     

基于BACnet/IP的设备与实时数据库通信实现

针对不同厂商、不同系统的楼宇自控设备互操作、互通信的局限性,分析了BACnet/IP技术和实时数据库,设计开发了一种基于BACnet/IP技术的实时数据库DasRdb的设备驱动程序。该设备驱动程序采用UDP通信方式,通过调用每个BACnet/IP设备的标准接口函数来驱动实时数据库DasRdb分别进行写操作和读操作,能够有效地实现BACnet/IP设备与实时数据库DasRdb之间的通信,从而使楼控设备的互操作成为可能。现场工程应用表明,该程序的运行契合BACnet的一致性要求,具有简单、高效、精确度高、实时性好的特点。     

基于城市小区域的车联网模型

随着社会进步及车辆增多,交通问题日益突出,使得城市环境下车联网的研究受到越来越多的关注。基于真实数据的分析和验证,可以得到城市不同区域的车联网网络度分布服从广义的幂律分布,即网络是无标度网络。根据此性质利用复杂网络理论建立车联网网络模型,通过分析和仿真验证该模型的正确性和有效性。     

基于STM32的嵌入式网络控制器设计

针对目前对终端设备的网络远程控制需求,设计了一种可自适应10/100 Mbit/s网络的嵌入式网络控制器,以实现控制系统中对工业设备、信息家电、移动设备等的远程控制和信息交互。设计了微控制器STM32F107和DP83848以太网PHY芯片的硬件设计方案,详细分析了LwIP嵌入式网络协议栈在STM32F107处理器上的移植过程,以及在μC/OSⅡ实时操作系统上进行网络编程的软件设计过程。实验结果表明,所设计的控制器可以稳定、可靠地实现网络远程控制和信息交互。     

以实例为切入点的高职物联网应用技术专业教育第一课

物联网技术发展迅速,但高职物联网应用技术专业教育尚处于初期,因而科学、直观、紧扣实际、有效激发学生专业学习的第一课尤为重要。以物联网应用技术实例为专业教育切入点,采用阶梯式递进的方法带领学生走进物联网,感知物联网,从而充分调动学生专业学习积极性,更好地让学生了解专业人才定位,明确学习目标和就业方向,为整个物联网应用技术专业教育打下坚实基础。
