Abstract— Photolithography is currently the predominant patterning method in the flat‐panel‐display (FPD) industry. Thermal lithography is a novel approach offering superior process control, a completely dry process, and considerable cost savings. Thermal imaging is now the dominant imaging method in computer‐to‐plate applications in the printing industry, with over 6000 installations world‐wide. Two applications, in which this technology could be applied in the FPD industry, will be discussed in detail: color filters for liquid‐crystal displays (LCDs) and barrier ribs for LCDs and organic light‐emitting‐diode (OLED) displays.  相似文献

Abstract— A robust, repeatable, low‐cost lamination process that utilizes pressure‐sensitive adhesive (PSA) to directly bond substrates to displays, such as LC, OLED, plasma, and electrophoretic displays, has been developed. These substrates can vary in intent and serve as protective covers, reflection mitigation, heaters, filters, touch screens, environmental barriers, etc. The resultant assembly is very rugged (shock, impact, and vibration resistant), while maximizing optical performance. This paper briefly describes the traditional liquid bonding technologies and compares them to dry‐film bonding. A section of the paper focuses on the enhanced optical and environmental performances of dry‐film bonded displays. This paper may also serve as a brief review of optical‐bonding technologies.  相似文献

A 14.1‐in. UXGA low‐temperature poly‐Si TFT‐LCD has been developed using p‐MOS technology. Both the peripheral driving circuits and the pixel switches are implemented using only p‐channel TFTs. The device performance for the driving circuits and the panel design issues, such as crosstalk and flicker, were investigated. The image quality required for the notebook‐PC display has been achieved by optimizing the panel design and by improving the device performance. In addition, the redundant gate driving structure has been developed to minimize the degradation of the panel yield.  相似文献

Abstract— A general expression for the reflectance of a single-polariser twisted-nematic device is given. From this, solutions of liquid-crystal parameters that will convert linear-to-circular (L-C) and linear-to-linear (L-L) polarizations are derived. A comparison of the field behavior for some normally black and normally white devices made from the lower Δnd/λ solutions of the L-C and L-L are presented. Abstract— Dichroic sheet polarizers required for most liquid-crystal displays are generally modeled as simple uniaxial films. This leads, however, to significant errors in display modeling at high viewing angles, both in luminance and spectral transmission. The primary source of these errors appears to be a negative out-of-plane birefringence (on the order of 50 nm for sample polarizers) of the protective outer layers of the polarizer. A straightforward methodology for measuring the relevant optical properties for modeling purposes via transmission measurements through crossed polarizers and optical microscopy is described.  相似文献

Abstract— Thermal dimensional stability of Fusion‐drawn Corning Code 1737 glass was investigated at simulated thermal cycles for low‐temperature poly‐Si TFT fabrication. For low‐temperature poly‐Si TFT processes between 550 and 600°C, annealed Code 1737 is required to meet a typical thermal shrinkage requirement of less than 20 ppm. For super‐low‐temperature poly‐Si TFT processes between 400 and 450°C, Code 1737 meets the requirement in the unannealed state. Code 1737 glass having a high strain point of 666°C provides thermal capabilities as a substrate for low‐temperature poly‐Si TFT‐LCD applications.  相似文献

The brightness enhancement film (BEF) is one of the important components in the liquid crystal displays (LCDs). Since the thicknesses of BEFs are very less, it increases the difficulty to measure their mechanical properties. In this paper, we successfully propose a methodology by combining the micro tensile test and optical interferometry to characterize Young’s moduli and Poisson’s ratios of BEFs. In addition, the thermal and hygrothermal effects on the mechanical properties of BEFs were also investigated. The finite element analysis (FEA) was utilized to verify the precision of our proposed methodology. The results show that Young’s moduli of BEFs are influenced by temperature and humidity whereas Poisson’s ratios of BEFs are less influenced by temperature and humidity.  相似文献

Conventional displays use at least three primaries for full‐color image reproduction. In this contribution, the reproduction of color images using an LCD system with two local dynamic primaries, based on a segmented backlight, will be discussed. The two primaries are chosen to minimize color error by means of total least squares. Simulation results indicate quite good color reproduction for a large set of video data even with a limited number of backlight segments. A statistical analysis of this video content shows that excellent color reproduction (?uv′ < 0.020 for more than 99.0% of the pixels per frame) can be achieved for 74.2% of the frames using 9216 backlight segments.  相似文献
