Abstract— A significant improvement in the dynamic response times of IPS-mode LCDs is achieved through polymer stabilization. The improvement is a result of the introduction of a low-density stabilizing polymer network that causes the LC director to favor the zero-field orientation. We report on the effect of the polymer concentration and network orientation on the electro-optic performance of our novel polymer-stabilized IPS-mode cells. Furthermore, we present a detailed model derived using elastic continuum theory to explain our observations.  相似文献

Abstract— We considered the electro-optical properties of twisted and non-twisted modes in vertically aligned (VA) nematic liquid crystals with the main objective of improving their viewing angle, response speed, and luminance. Several modes appropriate for applications in multidomain and amorphous VA textures are outlined. Mechanisms of multidomain texture formation in displays with dielectric patterns between the electrodes are analyzed by computer simulations and verified with experimental samples. It is shown that by depositing dielectric patterns on the electrodes it is possible to fabricate multidomain liquid-crystal displays without inversion of gray levels, sacrificing only 20% of the luminance of conventional single-domain displays.  相似文献

Abstract— A method of controlling the color of a holographic polymer-dispersed liquid-crystal (HPDLC) reflective display device has been achieved. By merely controlling the optical setup during fabrication, without changing the materials or laser light source, three primary-color devices were fabricated. Since the color of the device can be controlled continuously, a large color-reproducible area on the chromaticity diagram can be obtained. The resulting device was adequately transparent at other wavelengths to enable multiple devices to be stacked to obtain a mixture of colors. There was no significant change in color when applying an electric field. The three devices had similar reflectances and electro-optical characteristics. Therefore, this device has good potential for full-color display applications.  相似文献

Abstract— A new display method for field‐sequential‐color liquid‐crystal displays (FS‐LCDs) that reduces the negative effects of color break‐up associated with moving objects has been developed. The method is called Adjustment of Color Element on the Eyes (ACE), and it relies on the position on the eyes of RGB color sub‐images. It was confirmed that color break‐up also does not occur for peripheral objects when using ACE.  相似文献

A new 10.4‐in.‐diagonal display with UXGA resolution (1600 H × 1200 V pixels) using low‐temperature polysilicon (poly‐Si) TFTs has been developed for notebook‐PC applications. The source drive technique uses integrated selector switches, which decreases the number of tape carrier packages (TCPs) for a poly‐Si TFT‐LCD and increases the connection pitch of the TCPs to the glass substrate. Abstract— A reflective color STN-LCD with a single polarizer and double retardation films has been investigated. The double retardation films arranged in front of the LC layer enabled the LCD to contain reflective electrodes inside the panel. This configuration achieves a bright image with no parallax. A new construction of a reflective STN-LCD with a single polarizer has been developed by means of our own method in which the color difference ΔE* as the optimizing parameter has been used. Further, RGB color filters have been newly designed for our reflective LCD, and an aluminum (Al) layer has been introduced as a reflective electrode. As a result, we have realized a 7.8-in.-diagonal reflective color STN-LCD (640 × 480) which has 15% reflectance, 14:1 contrast ratio, 4096-color capability, and sufficient color gamut. It has been confirmed that the single-polarizer reflective color STN-LCD has sufficient performance for mobile business tools. We believe that it will be a key device for this application.  相似文献

当运动图像在以LCDs为典型代表的保持型显示器上显示时,会产生诸如运动模糊之类的伪像这种图象质量的下降可以解释为LCDs显示运动图像时表现出的MIF低通特性.本文介绍了调制传递函数理论及其在像质评价中的应用方法,并运用调制传递函数理论从频域的角度分析了LCDs运动图像的显示特性、LC响应时间对运动模糊的影响以及背光闪烁的方法改善运动模糊的效果.  相似文献

Abstract— The optical performance of surface-stabilized cholesteric liquid-crystal displays (SCT-LCDs) has been optimized by using obliquely sputtered SiO2 as the alignment layer. A comparison with polyimides used up to now showed an improvement in the contrast ratio by a factor of 2 for glass displays. A second advantage of this material is the absence of high temperatures during the manufacturing process. Therefore, it is possible to use obliquely sputtered SiO2 for the preparation of plastic display prototypes. We have realized a 6-in. VGA display with approximately 130 dpi. This is the largest cholesteric display with the highest resolution fabricated on plastic substrates to date.  相似文献
