Abstract— A high-performance reflective-type TFT-LCD with full-color and video-rate capabilities has been developed. This display utilizes a single-polarizer geometry associated with a mixed-mode twisted-nematic (MTN) effect. The twist angle of the liquid-crystal cell is optimized by evaluating the light efficiency, contrast ratio, chromaticity, and gray-shading reproducibility with respect to the variation of cell-gap uniformity. Attractive features of this display such as low driving voltage, fast response, wide viewing angle, rich gray scales with superior color reproducibility, and clear image with no parallax are demonstrated.  相似文献

Abstract— Various approaches for the measurement and evaluation of the optical characteristics of compound retarder sheets will be presented and their features and limitations will be discussed. Two ways of modeling the actual multilayer structure with an inclined uniaxial indicatrix and an inhomogeneous biaxial layer plus negative c‐plate is introduced and compared, and the performance of these models is analyzed for the principal plane of light incidence and for arbitrary directions of light propagation.  相似文献

Abstract— A micro-cone-structure film was proposed to improve the viewing angle of reflective color LCDs, both in chromaticity and brightness. The simulation results show that the film works as a collimating layer when the light is incident from the bottom side of cone and as a scattering layer when the light is incident from the tip side. The viewing-angle dependence of reflective interference color filters (RICF) is weakened dramatically by including such a film. The film is not only useful to RICF, but also to most reflective color LCD modes.  相似文献

Abstract— We developed a bright full-color reflective LCD which employs a newly developed IRIS mode, a scattering PDLC, and a MIM active matrix with two processes. Abstract— The new LCD display mode (ASM mode) which has the axially symmetric orientation of liquid crystal molecules and the micro-cell structure corresponding to each pixel is described in this paper. The electro-optic characteristics of this mode afford high contrast (CR ≥ 200, at normal direction) and the wide viewing angle characteristics without contrast inversion (±60° in both up-down and left-right directions).  相似文献

The Display Modelling System (DIMOS) is a software tool that was developed to evaluate the electro-elastic, electro-optic and colorimetric properties of display systems with liquid-crystal cells. DIMOS enables the user to perform a numerical analysis of the complex interdependencies between the numerous physical parameters of such display systems and the relevant output quantities. These must be known in order to optimize information content (multiplexability) and visibility of display systems with liquid-crystal cells. The structure and organisation of DIMOS is explained with special emphasis on the definition of dichroic dyes, polarizers and birefringence dispersion of LC materials. An overview is given of the numerical procedures used for the evaluation of the field-induced deformation and the optical properties of arbitrary chiral-nematic LC-configurations. The applicability of DIMOS to the optimization of supertwisted LCDs is shown in an example.  相似文献

We have fabricated a 13.3‐in. XGA (1024 × 768) TFT sequential‐color liquid‐crystal display using optically compensated birefringency (OCB), illuminated by an LED backlight. We fabricated the sequential‐color display feasible process technology, and examined the performance and potential of a field‐sequential‐color scheme. The display was connected to a laptop computer and examined for flicker.  相似文献
