Support effects form important aspect of hydrodesulfurization (HDS) studies and mixed oxide supports received maximum attention in the last two decades. This review will focus attention on studies on mixed oxide supported Mo and W catalysts. For convenience of discussion, these are divided into Al2O3 containing mixed oxide supports, TiO2 containing mixed oxide supports, ZrO2 containing mixed oxide supports and other mixed oxide supports containing all the rest. TiO2 containing mixed oxides received maximum attention, especially TiO2–Al2O3 supported catalysts. A brief discussion about their prospects for application to ultradeep desulfurization is also included. An experiment for five stages of a biofilter-run was performed to investigate the effect of hydrophilic ethanol and hydrophobic
toluene on the biodegradation of hydrophobic toluene and hydrophilic ethanol, respectively, when waste-air containing toluene
and ethanol was treated by a biofilter. Removal efficiencies of toluene and ethanol began to decrease when inlet load surpassed
90 g/m3/h and 100 g/m3/h consistent with maximum elimination capacities of toluene and ethanol, respectively. At the end of the biofilter-run, removal
efficiencies for toluene and ethanol were decreased and maintained at 65% and 40%, respectively. The concentration of toluene
at 1st sampling port was raised by factor of two in the 3rd stage of the biofilter run when the inlet load of ethanol co-feed
was increased by 1.5 times, while the process conditions of toluene were maintained the same as those of the 2nd stage of
biofilter-run. According to the result of Mohseni and Allen, it may be interpreted that removal efficiency of hydrophobic
toluene was affected by the presence of hydrophilic ethanol when high load of hydrophobic toluene was applied like that of
the 1st sampling port of the biofilter. However it was not the case when a low load of hydrophobic toluene was applied like
those of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th sampling ports since hydrophobicity of toluene is much less that of α-pinene. Thus, it may be
suggested that biodegradation of hydrophobic VOC was interfered by hydrophilic VOC dissolved in the biolayer and the degree
of interference was proportional to the inlet load of hydrophobic VOC as well as that of hydrophilic VOC and was inversely
proportional to the solubility of hydrophobic VOC. However, it was inferred that the existence of hydrophobic toluene from
waste-air can hardly inversely hinder the removal of hydrophilic ethanol in the biofilter when timeevolutions of hydrophilic
ethanol concentrations of this experiment were compared with those of the previous experiment of biofilter to treat waste-air

To satisfy public demands for environmental values, forest companies are facing the prospect of a reduction in wood supply and increases in costs. Some Canadian provincial governments have proposed intensifying silviculture in special zones dedicated to timber production as the means for pushing out the forest possibility frontiers. In this paper, we compare the traditional two‐zone land allocation framework which includes ecological reserves and integrated forest management zones with the triad — a three‐zone scheme which adds a zone dedicated to intensive timber production. We compare the solutions of the mixed‐integer linear programs formulated under both land‐allocation frameworks. We explore through sensitivity analysis the conditions under which the triad regime can offset the impact on timber production from increased environmental demands. We show that under the realistic conditions characteristic to Coastal British Columbia, higher environmental demands may be satisfied under the triad regime without increasing the financial burdens on the industry or reducing its wood supply. This occurs, however, only if regulatory constraints in timber production zone are flexible. 相似文献

Exchanges of total N and C between a river and its floodplain forest have been enhanced by sedimentation processes during flood pulses at a 5‐ha bottomland hardwood forest located at the Olentangy River Wetland Research Park in central Ohio. In the spring of 2000, the forest was hydrologically restored by notching an artificial levee that had separated the Olentangy River and its floodplain forest for 100 years. One‐hundred flat sediment traps (30 cm × 30 cm) were used to collect sediment samples during spring/summer flooding events from 2003 to 2005. Results showed that sediment deposition is determined by the landscape variability during flooding events, Net sediment deposit in the wettest area averaged 134 ± 12 g‐dry wt m?2 in 2003, 127 ± 17 g‐dry wt m?2 in 2004 and 149 ± 23 g‐dry wt m?2 in 2005. Total N and C sedimentation ranged from 0.49 to 0.92 g‐N m?2 and 5.2 to 19.9 g‐C m?2. Fe dominates the sediment chemistry and results show the elemental abundance in the order of Al > Fe > Ca > K > Mg > S > P > Na > Mn > Zn > B > Cu > Mo. A hydrologic pulsing index (HPI) could be used as an indicator for mass changes of energies with hydrologic pulsing events. Restoration of seasonally flooded bottomland forests could stimulate potentially large nutrient and Fe releases, which would eventually lead to an enhanced forest productivity and biodiversity. This paper presents an inelastic element for the analysis of beams on foundations. The element is derived from a two-field mixed formulation with independent approximation of forces and displacements. The state determination algorithm for the implementation of the element in a general purpose nonlinear finite element analysis program is presented and its stability characteristics are discussed. Numerical studies are performed to compare the model with the classical displacement formulation. The studies confirm the superiority of the proposed model in describing the inelastic behavior of beams on foundations. 相似文献

A mixed biopolymer gel, consisting of a protein (gelatin) and polysaccharide (maltodextrin) mixture has been investigated. By controlling the composition it was possible to construct an ‘emulsion-like’ structure, with included spherical particles of one phase (maltodextrin) within a continuous matrix of the second (gelatin). Large strain deformation and failure behaviour of this system has been examined via in situ environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM). ESEM has been employed to explore the changes in the structure of the material, whilst allowing the sample to stay hydrated as it was subjected to tensile strain, thereby allowing simultaneous imaging and determination of stress-strain data of the native sample. Ductile behaviour was observed, which has been attributed to the stretching, tearing and fracture of gelatin ligaments and debonding at the interface between the maltodextrin particles and continuous gelatin matrix. Deformation and fracture of the maltodextrin particles during tensile testing was also observed. The interfacial fracture energy of the composite has been calculated following an elastomer composite-debonding model, although there are several limitations to this approach for the mixed gel. It was found in samples tested after different ageing times that the debonding stress and strain was decreasing with ageing leading to a lower interfacial fracture energy. Samples were also tested after successive loading cycles, which resulted in a mechanical strength decrease after each cycle. 相似文献
