THE WONDERLAND AT THE FOOT OF MOUNT QISHAN

As the core territory for the Zhou and Qin dynasties, the land at the foot of Mount Qishan in Shaanxi Province has significantly made the society and culture of China thrive and grow. The author retraced four routes to find out how the Zhou and Qin people explored and envisioned this landscape, both physically as settlements and spiritually as a wonderland. These routes include the migration path of the Zhou people from the north to the south of Mount Qishan to seek shelter from nomadic tribes; the path of the Zhou people moving from the west to the east along the Weihe River to conquer the Shang people and establish a new kingdom; the path of the Qin State to unify the other six states and found a great dynasty; and the route climbing from the Weihe Valley to Mount Taibai, the main peak of the Qinling Mountains. All the episodes happened on these routes had a profound influence on the ideology of Chinese society and cultural identity. For instance, the Zhou people’s observation on the landscape for farming and living, as well as their preference for the basin-shaped territory, significantly contributed to forming the Chinese geomancy (Feng Shui) and developed into an ideal territorial image of being the “kingdom in the center” (literally meaning “China” in Chinese); the artistic representation of sublime reflected the Qin people’s fight for survival and honor; and the described Kunlun Wonderland perfectly expresses both religious ideals and worldly desires.     

Behind the kitchen door: A novel mixed method approach for exploring the food provisioning practices of the older consumer

Social Practice Theory offers a theoretical approach to understanding habitual, mundane and tacitly enacted practices that are performed within the domestic environment. To support the practical adoption of this theory, this paper reports and reflects upon a methodological application of Social Practice Theory which was used to investigate the domestic kitchen-based practices of older adults (aged 60+) in order to understand the role of food safety within the everyday performance of these. Social Practice Theory requires a research design that situates data generation techniques into the ‘space’ in which the practices are performed and gives equal investigative consideration to the physical and social spheres of practices. We demonstrate that these methodological principles necessitate the use of mixed methods, and this case study presents a ‘tool-kit’ of data generation techniques that produced visual, verbal, textual, technical and scientific data. Through the presentation of results at the level of the individual household, the case study demonstrates how the different data streams acted as analytical lenses which facilitated data corroboration and comparison, and provided the basis for a grounded conceptual elaboration of domestically situated food provisioning and handling practices and the role of food safety within these.     

模型桩动力测试与计算分析方法的改进

本文以模型桩为例，进行了小应变反射波数值分析方法研究，采用一维波动方程和有限元离散方法，并把它与特征线解法有效地衔接起来。文中研究了如何减小由有限元离散引起的弥散现象，以及采取优化的方法选取参数的可能性。采用本文方法，研究了完整模型桩中应力波的传播规律，计算了顶端的响应，并与实测曲线进行了比较，两者吻合较好。     

厚火成岩下采煤地表移动规律研究

在厚火成岩下采煤,因火成岩硬度大,不易冒落而容易诱发冲击性地质灾害。为了研究火成岩下开采沉陷规律,解决火成岩下开采地面破坏及建筑物保护问题,建立了地表移动观测站。根据火成岩厚度分布情况,结合数值模拟计算,确定了煤层开采后火成岩随下伏岩层呈整体下沉。利用岩移预计软件计算无火成岩条件下地表变形,与实际观测结果对比,分析火成岩下采煤地表移动规律。

Development and Testing of a New Computerized Link Analysis System

Link analysis (LA) is a popular ergonomic tool for studying and improving the layout of workspaces. It uses a data (event) recording method to input interactions of human behavior with their environment. The traditional “pen and paper'' method of LA is cumbersome, time consuming, and gives limited outputs. To address these limitations, the computerized link analysis (CLA) system was developed and tested in laboratory and real‐world environments. CLA offers an integrated task analysis tool, including traditional LA functions (layout, event recording) with more detail for operator activities, time‐motion functions, and multioperator data recording. As well as the conventional LA results (link diagrams and link tables), there are additional outputs for time‐event lists (start/end time, duration, chronology, additional notes, importance, and operator ID), and processed link diagrams with the link direction and frequency. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.     

A Bayesian network incorporating observation error to predict phosphorus and chlorophyll a in Saginaw Bay

Empirical relationships between lake chlorophyll a and total phosphorus concentrations are widely used to develop predictive models. These models are often estimated using sample averages as implicit surrogates for unknown lake-wide means, a practice than can result in biased parameter estimation and inaccurate predictive uncertainty. We develop a Bayesian network model based on empirical chlorophyll-phosphorus relationships for Saginaw Bay, an embayment on Lake Huron. The model treats the means as unknown parameters, and includes structure to accommodate the observation error associated with estimating those means. Compared with results from an analogous simple model using sample averages, the observation error model has a lower predictive uncertainty and predicts lower chlorophyll and phosphorus concentrations under contemporary lake conditions. These models will be useful to guide pending decision-making pursuant to the 2012 Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement.     

Solubility of piperonal in different pure solvents and binary isopropanol+water solvent mixtures

Using a laser monitoring observation technique, the solubilities of piperonal in different pure solvents and binary isopropanol+water solvent mixtures were determined by synthetic method from 273.15 K to 293.15 K. Results of these measurements were correlated by Apelbat equation and the combined nearly ideal binary solvent (CNIBS)/Redlich-Kister equation. The results find that Apelbat equation and the combined ideal binary solvent (CNIBS)/Redlich-Kister equation provided accurate mathematical representations of the experimental data, respectively.
