The integration of lightweight representation and annotation for collaborative design representation
Today companies face the unprecedented challenges of a global market, collaborative environments and the concept of management
of the entire product life cycle. In supporting this, the challenge is not only how to utilize information management policies,
but also how to develop product representation methods to meet the new demands including platform/application independence,
support for the product lifecycle, assisting generation of viewpoint-specific representations, rapid sharing of information
between geographically distributed applications and users, and protection of commercial security (intellectual property).
This paper proposes a product representation approach using the strengths of lightweight representation and annotation and
markup practices to allow the association of product data from throughout the lifecycle with the geometric form of the product.
The approach, called Lightweight Model with Multi-layer Annotation (LIMMA), integrates the concept of lightweight representation
with annotation of boundary-representations (b-rep) of a product and the use of a formalised markup language (XML). Examples
of annotation layers and development of models through-life are given, based on the LIMMA approach.

With the trend toward servitization and the development of big data, host manufacturers of complex products are exploring methods to effectively organize product data for providing satisfactory maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) service. With the motivation, this research develops a service bill-of-material (SBOM) from a product life cycle perspective. We propose a generic-SBOM (G-SBOM) to manage common information of one product type or batched products and an individual-SBOM (I-SBOM) to administrate instance products, together constituting a static SBOM. The transformation processes from engineering BOM, manufacturing resume and purchased part information to SBOM are explained in detail and described in a mathematical model. The compound SBOM reduces data redundancy and meets the basic requirements of MRO service, such as position management and alternative parts management. At the same time, its formation process reflects product lifecycle data integration for complex products. Finally, this method is verified by a product example and realized in a prototype XBOM system for a high-speed train manufacturer enterprise in China. 相似文献

This paper details a collaborative workstation design approach integrating knowledge based on engineering process, using a Multi-Agent System (MAS) on a Virtual Reality (VR) platform. The MAS supports R&D teams to extract and re-use engineering knowledge so as to improve their efficiency in developing new products. Our research targets the development of a knowledge engineering system integrated into a PLM-Product Life cycle Management-environment linked with virtual reality tools. A PLM is a strategic business approach with a consistent set of methodologies and software solutions. It is meant to promote collaborative creation, management, delivery and proper use of this life cycle definition and information product in multinational companies. This system is used by engineers to carry out projects in a collective way while conveying a defined process. The MAS allows capitalization, and to annotate knowledge according to the actions of the designers inside a PLM environment. Then, this knowledge is used by VR tools to analyze various aspects of the virtual prototype such as manufacturing, maintenance, reliability or ergonomics. Consequently, we use expert knowledge to pilot the design process of a virtual prototype inside a three-dimensional immersive virtual reality platform. The evolution of enterprise services is changing the approach for enabling Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Supply Chain Management (SCM) business processes. Enabling systems are migrating to process- and service-oriented solutions. In particular, the paper demonstrates how the new technologies can be used to enable a critical process that links vehicle health maintenance to PLM. Our hypothesis is that Condition-based Maintenance (CBM) and PLM integration is achievable through composite application design. The key process for linking CBM to PLM must convert prognostic and diagnostic information into actionable information that can be directed into a project-level PLM environment that supports the end-to-end product improvement process. To test this hypothesis, we designed a composite application within the context of a Small Business Innovative Research project that is sponsored by the US government.
