A study was performed to determine the drying characteristics and quality of barley grain dried in a laboratory scale spouted-bed dryer at 30, 35, 40, and 45°C and an inlet air velocity of 23 m/s-1, and in an IR-convection dryer under an infrared radiation intensity of 0.048, 0.061, 0.073, and 0.107 W cm-2 at an air velocity of 0.5 m/s-1. The results show that the first, relatively short, phase of a sharp decrease in the drying rate was followed by the phase of a slow decrease. The time of barley drying depended on temperature of inlet air in a spouted-bed dryer and on radiation intensities in an IR-convection dryer. Barley drying at 45°C in a spouted-bed dryer was accompanied by the lowest total energy consumption. The average specific energy consumption was lower and the average efficiency of drying was higher for drying in a spouted-bed dryer. The effective diffusivities were in the range 2.20-4.52 × 10-11 m2 s-1 and 3.04-4.79 × 10-11 m2/s-1 for barley dried in a spouted-bed and in an IR-convection dryer, respectively. Drying is an important unit operation in processing of foods and other biotechnological products. Vacuum freeze drying is said to be the best drying technology regarding product quality of the end product, but the disadvantages are, among others, expensive operational costs and batch drying. Atmospheric freeze drying was introduced to lower the production costs of high-quality dried foods, and the need of simulation tools became important in estimations of the industrial drying processes.
A simplified mathematical model (AFDsim) is developed based on uniformly retreating ice front (URIF) considerations. The model is used to calculate theoretical drying curves of atmospheric freeze dried foods in a tunnel dryer. Studies of thermal and mass transfer properties during drying are essential for understanding the changes in product quality and for designing and dimensioning the drying process. The model can be used to simulate industrial atmospheric freeze drying of different foodstuff in a tunnel. The results from AFDsim modeling are in good accordance with the experimental results. 相似文献

In arc welding processes, because of the complexity and nonlinearity of heat transfer phenomena, it is often difficult to design an effective control system based upon an exact mathematical model. In this paper, a self-organizing fuzzy control method is proposed to obtain a uniform weld quality by regulation of the surface temperature at a desired level. The proposed control system is designed to comprise a combined structure of the fuzzy SOC with conventional PD control for improving the system's stability. The broadband integrated services digital networks (B-ISDN) based on asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) technology can support
a wide range of applications such as voice, video, still images, and data. Compression techniques increase the effective bandwidth
utilization, but the bursty and asynchronous nature of the traffic can still lead to congestion in the network, and degradation
of image quality and quality of service (QOS). Some of the features to provide better coding schemes for ATM networks are
layered coding, resynchronization, buffering, interleaved schemes, constrained bit rate due to buffers, encapsulation with
the RTP or AAL1 for clock recovery, lapped transforms, motion compensation, and optimal bit allocation for coders based on
wavelet transforms. We review various techniques forimage and video coding such as transforms, motion compensation, vector
quantization, and subband coding. We outline the impact of the cell loss ratio (CLR), delay and cell delay variation (CDV)
on video coding: blocking effects, loss of frame synchronization, motion vectors, and vector quantization codewords. The open
