Different routes for immobilization of TiO2 on conducting substrates were compared to find active and stable photocatalysts, which could either be operated in open circuit (photocatalysis) or with applied electric potential (photoelectrocatalysis). The advantage of applying an electric potential was investigated. Polarization curves and photoelectrochemical degradation reactions served to characterize catalysts and to find a way of predicting the optimum synthesis conditions. The difference between front side (EE) and back side (SE) illumination is discussed as a function of layer thickness, as well as the influence of oxidizable substance concentration on photocurrents. We have studied the photoluminescence and Raman spectra of a system consisting of a polystyrene latex microsphere coated by CdTe colloidal quantum dots. The cavity-induced enhancement of the Raman scattering allows the observation of Raman spectra from only a monolayer of CdTe quantum dots. Periodic structure with very narrow peaks in the photoluminescence spectra of a single microsphere was detected both in the Stokes and anti-Stokes spectral regions, arising from the coupling between the emission of quantum dots and spherical cavity modes. 相似文献

Nanotechnology has the potential to profoundly transform the nature of cancer diagnosis and cancer patient management in the
future. Over the past decade, quantum dots (QDs) have become one of the fastest growing areas of research in nanotechnology.
QDs are fluorescent semiconductor nanoparticles suitable for multiplexed in vitro and in vivo imaging. Numerous studies on
QDs have resulted in major advancements in QD surface modification, coating, biocompatibility, sensitivity, multiplexing,
targeting specificity, as well as important findings regarding toxicity and applicability. For in vitro applications, QDs
can be used in place of traditional organic fluorescent dyes in virtually any system, outperforming organic dyes in the majority
of cases. In vivo targeted tumor imaging with biocompatible QDs has recently become possible in mouse models. With new advances
in QD technology such as bioluminescence resonance energy transfer, synthesis of smaller size non-Cd based QDs, improved surface
coating and conjugation, and multifunctional probes for multimodality imaging, it is likely that human applications of QDs

We have proposed previously that an increased concentration of growth factor secreted by neurons themselves has a direct effect on survival of the neurons, and thereby cell density serves as a regulator of survival of neurons. In this study, the same idea was used to analyze the aggregation of cerebellar granule neurons in culture experimentally and theoretically. Assuming the transport of growth factor and substrate within an aggregate is by molecular diffusion, the metabolic efficiency of neurons, on the basis of an autocatalytic phenomenon, was increased within an aggregate compared to an identical quantity of dispersed cells. A good agreement in the size of neuronal aggregate between the theoretical prediction and the experimental result was found. This illustrates that growth factors produced by neurons acting in either an autocrine or paracrine manner play an important role during the development of cultured neurons. 相似文献
