传统文化与现代建筑

在＂西方模式＂和＂视觉至上＂思潮的强势介入下,建筑的本土性、民族性日趋消解和扭曲,本应隐喻的传统元素也荡然无存。文章试图在符号学的角度下,从现代审美意象出发,探究传统文化与当代建筑设计的关联性,并选取典型案例进行分析,意在寻求传统文化在当代建筑中的正确表达方式。     

Hot or not? Conveying sensory information on food packaging through the spiciness-shape correspondence

The packaging of a product is a key element in the communication between producers and consumers, so getting the consumer to interpret the packaging visual signs in the desired way is crucial to be successful in the marketplace. However, this is not easy as images can be ambiguous and may be interpreted in different ways. For example, depicting an icon of fire on the front of a bag of nuts may lead the consumer to interpret either that the nuts are spicy or that the nuts have been roasted. This paper addresses this problem and, using this case as an example, assesses if the interpretation of a fire icon (spicy vs roasted) can be modulated by manipulating its shape (angular vs rounded). 66 participants carried out an experiment which results show that there is a crossmodal correspondence between spiciness and pointy shapes and that this association can be used to modulate sensory expectations: in a speeded classification task, the bags of nuts depicting pointy fire icons were categorised more quickly as being spicy than as being roasted, while the opposite was true for the bags of nuts displaying rounded fire icons. In addition, the results of a mediation analysis suggest that this effect occurs indirectly through affective appraisal: the pointy fire icons were judged as being more aggressive than the rounded fire icons, which in turn raised spiciness expectations. These findings contribute to the research on crossmodal correspondences and semiotics by showing that the association between spiciness and abstract shapes can be used to modulate how people interpret an ambiguous image.     

Metaphor-based meaning excavation

Excavating the meaning of a target term is a challenge facing information sciences and various applications of Web 3.0. In this paper, we present a novel method for excavating the meaning of a target term by analyzing metaphors in which the term is embedded. More specifically, we (1) review some of the basic theoretical difficulties associated with the dominant cognitive theories of metaphor; (2) outline a mathematical model of metaphor that addresses some of these difficulties; (3) introduce a novel method for excavating metaphor-based meaning; and (4) illustrate the relevance of the methodology and the potential applications of the model with a concrete example.     

传统吉祥符号在现代产品设计中显示的文化意象

从古至今,人们对美好事物都一样的心存向往,而古代的吉祥符号就代表了人们美好的心愿,各种各样的中国传统吉祥符号是中国五千年文明智慧的结晶,对于设计师而言,去传承与发扬它吉祥符号的精神,把其精神元素融入现代设计之中,不仅发扬了传统文化,也必定会使设计更具文化性与社会性。本文从吉祥符号的产生谈起,探索传统吉祥符号在现代产品设计中显示的文化意象。     

中国传统建筑的符号学阐释

中国传统建筑是凝固的语言,记录着每个朝代的兴衰更替,无声的为我们诉说了几千年的灿烂史诗。文章从符号学的角度对传统建筑进行了论述,分别从建筑外形、空间布局、色彩以及建筑构件四个方面做了符号化的整合与提炼,形象的解析了较为具象的传统建筑。符号学是一门包容性很强的学科,它包含的信息量十分丰富,也等待更多的人去研究与探索。     

Organizational reconciliation and its implications for organizational decision support systems: a semiotic approach

This paper describes the key problems with the core concepts behind ODSS, and provides a critique from a theoretical perspective that draws on organizational theory and semiotics. We argue that any distinction between organizational decision support systems (ODSS) and other related systems such as DSS or group decision support systems (GDSS) should be based on the difference between the characteristics of groups and organizations. Our approach uses characteristics of communication within organizations to model information in order to support organizational level decisions. We illustrate the usefulness of this approach by examining a decision-making problem in the context of a British hospital.     

明清家具基于符号学理论的研究

阐述明清家具的符号形式,从符号的角度来探讨明清家具,希望能够为中式家具设计带来一些新的观念。根据莫里斯将符号学划分为符构学、符义学和符用学者三个研究层面,并且这三个层面与明清家具符号系统有较接近的一一对应关系,所以将这三部分引入明清家具的设计符号方法中进行对应分析。     

Appropriating virtual learning environments: A study of teacher tactics

In research on Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs), it has been shown that teachers often do not explore VLEs to their full potential and only adopt a limited set of the available tools. In this article, we approach teachers’ design of VLE learning activities as end user development. We describe a study of Toledo, a virtual learning environment used across several higher education institutions in Belgium. Using a combination of a semiotic, multimodal analysis and an in-depth user study with 24 respondents, we provide a detailed account of how teachers appropriate the learning environment to suit their needs. Combining the insights from the semiotic investigation and the user research, we analyze how user appropriations can be explained as practices emerging from both how the platform communicates, and contextual factors. The study showed that some teachers design very specific learning activities using the VLE - not by using the dedicated VLE tool, but by reinterpreting more generic tools. These appropriation tactics concentrate platform use in a limited number of tools, even when teachers do use more complex learning activities. These results have implications for the design of VLEs: rather than offering a wide range of tools targeted at specific learning activities, VLEs could concentrate on providing basic communication tools that are open for appropriation.

本文以贵州遵义地区为例,在 梳理符号学理论和研究各历史时期影响 遵义的典型建筑的基础上构建了地方建 筑“方言原型”的符号类比和设计方法, 以期在符号学的特殊视角下梳理传统建 筑符号,并建立地方建筑回归自身语言体 系的清晰逻辑,解决现代主义运动所带 来的归属感缺失等问题。
