Some issues in performance modeling of data teletraffic

Data teletraffic is characterized by bursty arrival processes. Performance models are characterized by a desire to know under what circumstances is the probability that an arrival finds a full input buffer very small. In this paper I examine how four models proposed in the literature perform on two data sets of local area network traffic. Among my conclusion are (1) the protocol governing the data transmission may have a substantial effect on the statistical propoerties on the packet stream, (2) approximating the probability that a finit buffer of size b overflows may not be adequately approximated by the probability that an infinite buffer has at least b packets in it, and (3) a data-based estimate of large-deviation rate-function does the best job of estimating packet loss on these data sets. This method may overestimate the loss rate by several orders of magnitude, so there is room for further refinements.     

Competition and evolution of linear and two-part tariff

The duopoly competition model presented in this paper tries to explain why a two-part tariff exists in the telecommunication industry. The investigation of competition and evolution between linear and two-part tariffs shows how the growth of the market and the sequence of action may affect equilibrium. The two pricing patterns are assumed to be virtual participants to constitute a tariff competition and evolution model, and by calculation, we can obtain metaphase equilibrium and evolution equilibrium. The conclusion shows that optimized Pareto equilibrium should be carried out by combining linear pricing and buffet pricing, this case being presented as a three-part tariff when many sub-markets coexist.

Study on energy efficient envelope design for telecommunication base station in Guangzhou

Telecommunication base station (TBS) buildings have large numbers, high energy consumptions and great potentials on energy conservation. Through field investigation of a typical TBS in Guangzhou, the basic information of TBS was achieved, the key factors influencing energy consumption of TBS were determined and several energy efficient envelope designs were proposed. The effect on annual cooling load was analyzed for each energy efficient design and the combined effects were achieved for several combinations of the designs by thermal simulation. The energy efficient design strategy of building envelope for TBS in Guangzhou was proposed.
