The use of hypertext in the writing of group papers

Abstract The Virtual Constructing Tool (VCT) was developed at the Nijmegen School of Management in 1998. The VCT is intended to facilitate the process of writing group papers through the use of construction and communication tools and is based completely on the Internet. The VCT allows a paper to be structured by means of hyperlinking and cooperation between students. Students are allowed to divide tasks, but they are held responsible for the quality of the arguments in the paper as a whole. They are invited to spend time in dealing with validity claims and in building a valid train of thought. Producing a group paper includes four interrelated working processes: exploring the subject, exchanging information, arguing and discussing and editing. Hyperlinking offers a contribution in each of these processes which varies from associative linking of pieces of information to strengthening linear structuring. Therefore, a different perspective has been taken to that of those authors who consider hyperlinking as a tool par excellence for the nonlinear production of information.

本文从英语语篇分析与写作的关系角度探讨《新编大学英语》(浙大版)特色。通过研究和教学实践,作者认为本教材选择的课内文章体现了各种英语体裁的语篇特点,首次进行语篇分析练习和仿写练习的设计是本教材的主要特色。在以学生为中心的模式下,通过教师引导学生对课内阅读文章的语篇进行分析,讨论英语与汉语语篇的差异,使英语学习者掌握英语语篇的知识,通过大量的仿写练习,可以有效地提高中国英语学习者的写作能力。     

Interacting with computer technology in secondary schools

In this article I reflect on my teaching and scholarship with computers in secondary schools during the past 20 years. I chart how changing technology and changing expectations for technology shaped my teaching and student learning in the writing centers and classrooms where I have worked.     

Computer supported collaborative writing in an early learning classroom

Abstract This paper describes a collaborative experiment in an early learners' classroom, equipped with special software and hardware to support the acquisition of initial reading and writing skills. This 'Computer-integrated Classroom' originated from the EU project NIMIS. Here, a new method to teach 'reading through writing' is supported by a specific software tool (T³) in the general framework of the classroom environment. Particularly, a collaborative writing task facilitated by a shared workspace system has been evaluated with a group of first graders using the T³ application. The speciality of this experiment lies in the study of domain-specific collaboration in a rich real world learning setting.     

How international is Computers and Composition?

In this article, I examine to what extent Computers and Composition: An International Journal for Teachers of Writing is international. My analysis of several aspects of the journal indicates limited international scope. I also discuss two issues important when considering the potential international scope of computers and writing research and practices: the differing uses of computers for writing by different language users and the differing concepts of identity and self in different cultures in relation to writing. I conclude with concrete suggestions for broadening our perspectives on computers and writing and making this journal truly international.     

“Growing Smarter Over Time”: An Emergence Model for Administrating a New Media Writing Studio

This article reports on efforts to create an administrative structure for learning and teaching multimodal composing that depends not on the leadership of a new media writing expert but on the collaboration of relative novices organized according to principles of emergent learning. Based on four years’ experience in a grant-funded program that supports new media composing in multiple disciplines, I report on the benefits of a bottom-up, emergent approach while raising questions about the long-term sustainability of such an approach. I conclude by describing efforts to create more top-down support for new media composing, while remaining committed to serving the teachers and students who are the real agents of change.

根据考古发掘的西汉初年古纸,推论造纸术可能发明于战国时代的长江流域,而非东汉时期的黄河中游地区;《考工记》中的“筐人”可能指造纸工官;古纸最初用于日常杂用包装和穿著,以后,纸质提高,方用于书写和绘图;纸包装的历史可上溯到战国时代;药丸纸包装则可上溯到汉咸帝时代(公元前32～前7年),已有2000年的悠久历史了。
