Abstract In the past, authoring systems have been used to generate computer-assisted learning materials that have often followed the rather restrictive programmed learning format. A number of innovative ways of using recently developed systems to develop CAL packages that include a wider range of learning activities (access to data bases, simulations, interactive video, etc.) are described. Analogous to the concept of a media selection model, a computer delivery mode selection model is presented as an aid to decision making for designers. This increase in flexibility should broaden the applicability of computerassisted learning (CAL) to a wider range of educational objectives and raise the level of the cognitive emphasis in learning packages, as well as facilitate the implementation of visually appealing materials. Since Samuel's work on checkers over thirty years ago, much effort has been devoted to learning evaluation functions. However, all such methods are sensitive to the feature set chosen to represent the examples. If the features do not capture aspects of the examples significant for problem solving, the learned evaluation function may be inaccurate or inconsistent. Typically, good feature sets are carefully handcrafted and a great deal of time and effort goes into refining and tuning them. This paper presents an automatic knowledge-based method for generating features for evaluation functions. The feature set is developed iteratively: features are generated, then evaluated, and this information is used to develop new features in turn. Both the contribution of a feature and its computational expense are considered in determining whether and how to develop it further.
This method has been applied to two problem-solving domains: the Othello board game and the domain of telecommunications network management. Empirical results show that the method is able to generate many known features and several novel features and to improve concept accuracy in both domains. 相似文献

Scheduling semiconductor wafer manufacturing systems has been viewed as one of the most challenging optimization problems owing to the complicated constraints, and dynamic system environment. This paper proposes a fuzzy hierarchical reinforcement learning (FHRL) approach to schedule a SWFS, which controls the cycle time (CT) of each wafer lot to improve on-time delivery by adjusting the priority of each wafer lot. To cope with the layer correlation and wafer correlation of CT due to the re-entrant process constraint, a hierarchical model is presented with a recurrent reinforcement learning (RL) unit in each layer to control the corresponding sub-CT of each integrated circuit layer. In each RL unit, a fuzzy reward calculator is designed to reduce the impact of uncertainty of expected finishing time caused by the rematching of a lot to a delivery batch. The results demonstrate that the mean deviation (MD) between the actual and expected completion time of wafer lots under the scheduling of the FHRL approach is only about 30 % of the compared methods in the whole SWFS. 相似文献

We present a digital laboratory safety training platform called AALTOLAB which we have developed to address the need for more flexible and engaging ways to teach laboratory safety for chemical engineers. AALTOLAB consists of an interactive, web-based 360° virtual laboratory, integrated with a Moodle-based digital exam with automatic assessment. The modular platform offers different modules from general comprehensive laboratory training to more specialised modules. Students and staff can freely navigate in the laboratory rooms at any time and interact with different action points including interactive videos, slideshows, and minigames. Our technical solution allows teachers even with limited technological skills to easily modify the training materials in real time. The relationship of students’ learning experiences and level of learning is also discussed. We believe that our safety training concept facilitates deep learning and students’ engagement, thus improving safety culture in our laboratories. 相似文献

Despite the apparent maturity of the learning design field, and the variety of tooling available to support it, adoption among the teacher community (one of its alleged main targets) is still low. There is a lack of research on teachers' perception and use of different technological learning design tools, as existing evaluations are often restricted to a single tool. In order to explore whether there are common factors hampering teacher adoption, and which tool features might appeal to different teachers, more studies involving multiple authoring tools are needed. This paper provides a first step in this direction, describing a mixed methods study performed around a professional development workshop with 18 university teachers from multiple disciplines. This workshop exposed teachers to two different authoring tools (WebCollage and EDIT2), as they learned to create computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) designs and implement them. The findings of our interpretive study (which included questionnaires, observations, or group discussion recordings) support the idea that there is no single tool or set of features that are globally perceived as better, although our evidence also highlights certain factors as important for participant teachers – amongst others, the integration of learning designs with the ICT platforms for enactment, as well as with other tools that they already use in their everyday practice. 相似文献
