Skeleton computation of orthogonal polyhedra

Skeletons are powerful geometric abstractions that provide useful representations for a number of geometric operations. The straight skeleton has a lower combinatorial complexity compared with the medial axis. Moreover, while the medial axis of a polyhedron is composed of quadric surfaces the straight skeleton just consist of planar faces. Although there exist several methods to compute the straight skeleton of a polygon, the straight skeleton of polyhedra has been paid much less attention. We require to compute the skeleton of very large datasets storing orthogonal polyhedra. Furthermore, we need to treat geometric degeneracies that usually arise when dealing with orthogonal polyhedra. We present a new approach so as to robustly compute the straight skeleton of orthogonal polyhedra. We follow a geometric technique that works directly with the boundary of an orthogonal polyhedron. Our approach is output sensitive with respect to the number of vertices of the skeleton and solves geometric degeneracies. Unlike the existing straight skeleton algorithms that shrink the object boundary to obtain the skeleton, our algorithm relies on the plane sweep paradigm. The resulting skeleton is only composed of axis‐aligned and 45° rotated planar faces and edges.     

Re-engineering of the design process for concurrent engineering

According to the requirements of concurrent engineering, three interdependency relationships (uncoupled relationship, coupled relationship and decoupled relationship) between design activities are presented in this paper. And the coupled relationship plays an important role in concurrent product design process. To represent the precedence relationships among design activities, a directed graph is used to describe the design process. And the interdependency relationship between activities is illustrated by a Design Structure Matrix which is the transpose of the accessibility matrix of the corresponding graph. Using the DSM, an algorithm of recognizing the coupled activities during the design process is presented. Moreover, an algorithm to figure out the order levels of activities during the design process is proposed. And both algorithms are illustrated with a die design example.

对学校图书馆的业务进行分析研究,从软件工程的角度,设计出学校图书馆管理系统的总体结构,并且对系统中的主要功能模块的实现方法进行了详细的描述。该系统的建设实现了图书馆管理和服务的自动化,具有实际应用价值。     

The Other Mathematical Bridge

This paper contextualises, describes and discusses a student project which takes a particular exploratory approach to using mathematical surface definition as a language and vehicle for co-rational design co-authorship for architecture and engineering. The project has two authors, one from an architectural and one from an engineering educational background. It investigates the metaphorical and operational role of mathematics in the design process and outcomes.     

Motif analysis for automatic segmentation of CT surface contours into individual surface features

This paper presents a new layer-based technique for automatic high-level segmentation of 3-D surface contours into individual surface features through motif analysis. The procedure starts from a contour-based surface model representing a composite surface area of an object. For each of the surface contours, a relative turning angle (RTA) map is derived. The RTA map usually contains noise and minor features. Algorithms based on motif analysis are applied for extracting a main profile of the RTA map free from background noise and other minor features. All feature points on the extracted profile are further identified from the extracted main profile through further motif analysis. The original contour is thus partitioned into individual segments with the identified feature points. A collection of consecutive contour segments among different layers form an individual 3-D surface feature of the original composite surface. The developed approach using motif analysis is particularly useful for the identification of smooth joins between individual surface features and for the elimination of superposed noise and unwanted minor features.

南京河西地区软土场地地震动参数研究

根据南京河西地区所处的地震地质环境、地震活动环境及基岩地震动衰减规律 ,对所选取的某个典型工程软土场地 ,进行了地震危险性分析 ,给出了基岩地震动参数 ;对场地的地震动效应进行了研究 ,给出了 5 0a及10 0a超越概率水平为 6 3%、10 %和 3%的场地地震动参数。该成果对河西地区的工程抗震设计有一定的参考价值
