The monotone convergence of a class of parallel nonlinear relaxation methods for nonlinear complementarity problems

We set up a class of parallel nonlinear multisplitting AOR methods by directly multisplitting the nonlinear mapping involved in the nonlinear complementarity problems. The different choices of the relaxation parameters can yield all the known and a lot of new relaxation methods, as well as a lot of new relaxed parallel nonlinear multisplitting methods for solving the nonlinear complementarity problems. The two-sided approximation properties and the influences on the convergence rates from the relaxation parameters about our new methods are shown, and sufficient conditions guaranteeing the methods to converge globally are discussed. Finally, a lot of numerical results show that our new methods are feasible and efficient.     

Stability, dynamics of convergence and tuning of observer-based kinetics estimators

This work discusses issues concerning stability, tuning and dynamics of convergence of observer-based kinetics estimators. The analysis focuses on both continuous and discrete time formulations of the estimation algorithms. Concerning the former, it is shown that, with proper tuning, stability can be guaranteed, while simultaneously imposing a desired quasi-time invariant second order time response for the convergence of estimates to true values. Concerning the latter, an algorithm is presented, based on a forward Euler discretisation, whose error system is shown to be linear time-invariant. Furthermore, stability conditions were derived, which define the stable domain for the discretisation period as function of the tuning parameters. The theory is illustrated with a case-study of Baker's yeast fermentation. Results clearly confirm the theoretical developments. In particular, results concerning the stability domain for the Euler-based discrete formulation of the estimator are shown to have relevant practical implications.     

L approximation of a parabolic system regarded as a delay system

We present an approach to the problem of finding an L^∞ approximant of the infinite-dimensional system describing the diffusion of heat in a wall. We show that this system can be regarded as a delay system with Laplace variable √s. We are able to get results, established in Zwart et al. (1988), about partial fraction expansion for delay systems, achieved by some adjustment to the specificities of our particular case. The determination of an L^∞ approximant is realised in two steps, using the optimal Hankel-norm approximation.     

Simulated annealing for the quadratic assignment problem: A further study

Concentrating on the generating mode of random permutation solutions and the corresponding theory and evaluation problems, this paper carries out a further study on the Simulated Annealing (SA) algorithm for the Quadratic Assignment Problem (QAP) which has many applications in practice. The paper introduces and analyzes the six different kinds of interchanges of facility locations for generating random permutations. The theoretical analyses prove that the relevant generation probabilities satisfy the asymptotical convergence conditions. The results of experimental evaluations reveal the relations between the random sampling modes, and show that adopting the proper generating mode the SA algorithm can produce better quality solutions of the QAP. At the same time, the conclusions reached in the paper are available for many extensive heuristics to solve combinatorial optimization problems.     

The local approximate output regulation problem: convergence region estimates

In this paper, the problem of local approximate output regulation is considered. The presented results answer the question: given a controller solving the local approximate output regulation problem, how to estimate the set of initial conditions for which approximate output regulation occurs. Psychoneuroimmunology: Psychological influences on immune function and health.

This review focuses on human psychoneuroimmunology studies published in the past decade. Issues discussed include the routes through which psychological factors influence immune function, how a stressor's duration may influence the changes observed, individual difference variables, the ability of interventions to modulate immune function, and the health consequences of psychosocially mediated immune dysregulation. The importance of negative affect and supportive personal relationships are highlighted. Recent data suggest that immune dysregulation may be one core mechanism for a spectrum of conditions associated with aging, including cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, arthritis, Type 2 diabetes, certain cancers, and frailty and functional decline; production of proinflammatory cytokines that influence these and other conditions can be stimulated directly by negative emotions and indirectly by prolonged infection. A double-sequence iteration process for fixed points of continuous pseudocontractions

Let C be a bounded closed convex nonempty subset of a (real) Hilbert space H. The idea of a double-sequence iteration is introduced, and it is proved that a Mann-type double-sequence iteration process converges strongly to a fixed point of a continuous pseudocontractive map T which maps C into C. Related results deal with the strong convergence of the iteration process to fixed points of nonexpansive maps.     

The Single Category Implicit Association Test as a measure of implicit social cognition.

The Single Category Implicit Association Test (SC-IAT) is a modification of the Implicit Association Test that measures the strength of evaluative associations with a single attitude object. Across 3 different attitude domains--soda brand preferences, self-esteem, and racial attitudes--the authors found evidence that the SC-IAT is internally consistent and makes unique contributions in the ability to understand implicit social cognition. In a 4th study, the authors investigated the susceptibility of the SC-IAT to faking or self-presentational concerns. Once participants with high error rates were removed, no significant self-presentation effect was observed. These results provide initial evidence for the reliability and validity of the SC-IAT as an individual difference measure of implicit social cognition. 小波的选取对边缘检测结果有直接的影响.本文分析和研究了小波的对称性、收敛性、平滑性及小波消失矩的内在联系及这些特性对边缘检测的影响,提出了边缘检测中小波选取原则.实验选取了三种具有不同特性的典型小波对选取原则进行了验证,实验结果证明了本文提出的小波选取原则的正确性.
