In the present research, N = 48 adults without university education were tasked to conduct two web searches on unfamiliar health-related issues. Three research objectives were examined: the predictive value of individuals’ Internet-specific epistemic beliefs for their navigation behavior and post-search decisions in Web Search Task 1; the effects of a short source evaluation intervention on individuals’ navigation behavior and post-search decisions in Web Search Task 2; and the effects of the source evaluation intervention on individuals’ Internet-specific epistemic beliefs. Results showed that beliefs concerning the justification by multiple sources were positively related to the time spent on reliable objective web pages and to the likelihood to make a post-search decision that was in accordance with the objective pages. Beliefs that the Internet is a reliable knowledge resource were also positively related to the time spent on objective pages as well as to greater certainty in the post-search decision. Second, in Web Search Task 2, the intervention group spent more time on objective web pages, was more likely to make a decision that was in accordance with these pages, and was more certain of their decision than the control group. Third, one week after the intervention, individuals possessed stronger beliefs concerning the justification by multiple sources than before. In conclusion, the present research indicates that both adaptive Internet-specific beliefs and a short source evaluation intervention have positive effects on non-university educated adults’ online health information seeking and that their Internet-specific epistemic beliefs can be fostered through such an intervention. 相似文献

Query language modeling based on relevance feedback has been widely applied to improve the effectiveness of information retrieval. However, intra‐query term dependencies (i.e., the dependencies between different query terms and term combinations) have not yet been sufficiently addressed in the existing approaches. This article aims to investigate this issue within a comprehensive framework, namely the Aspect Query Language Model (AM). We propose to extend the AM with a hidden Markov model (HMM) structure to incorporate the intra‐query term dependencies and learn the structure of a novel aspect HMM (AHMM) for query language modeling. In the proposed AHMM, the combinations of query terms are viewed as latent variables representing query aspects. They further form an ergodic HMM, where the dependencies between latent variables (nodes) are modeled as the transitional probabilities. The segmented chunks from the feedback documents are considered as observables of the HMM. Then the AHMM structure is optimized by the HMM, which can estimate the prior of the latent variables and the probability distribution of the observed chunks. Our extensive experiments on three large‐scale text retrieval conference (TREC) collections have shown that our method not only significantly outperforms a number of strong baselines in terms of both effectiveness and robustness but also achieves better results than the AM and another state‐of‐the‐art approach, namely the latent concept expansion model. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 相似文献

The notion of level of abstraction (LoA) is one of the foundations of the Floridi's Philosophy of Information. It also serves for many practical purposes as in information ethics. But the notion of abstraction is not new; it has been given many different meanings in various fields, especially in scientific disciplines and, in particular, in computer science. Our purpose here is to examine the use of abstraction in Floridi's works in conjunction with some of the meanings of abstraction in computer science. The article is divided into five sections. After a general introduction to the Floridi's method of abstraction (MoA) in Section 1, Section 2 revisits Floridi's definition of abstraction and Section 3 gives the different senses of abstraction in computer science. The Section 4 compares them with the Floridi's LoAs and proposes to generalise the Floridi's approach to abstraction using an abstraction of the LoAs, while Section 5 concludes on what we think to be some new arguments in favour of MoA and LoA. 相似文献

随着农业信息化的深入,如何描述、存储、管理和处理海量分布信息资源成为农业应用的首要问题。提出基于XML/XML Schema的统一农业信息资源描述框架,将XML描述与元数据约束相结合,采用层次化管理结构实现元数据与资源信息的组织;在HDFS(Hadoop Distributed File System)云存储架构适应性改进基础之上,设计实现了农业海量信息资源管理平台,实现了海量、分布、异构资源的分类组织、存储和访问服务。平台覆盖了全国6个省市资源节点,实现了3.2 TB农业资源存储管理,与传统资源检索方法相比,平台资源检索时间缩短73%;同时,用户在同一检索条件下能更多地获得相关资源,不仅查准率平均提高5%,而且资源利用率平均提高17.7%。平台在海量资源检索和利用效率方面获得提升。 相似文献
