There are several possible relationships between language and society. The concentration here is that social structure may either influence or determine linguistic slructure and/or behavior.     

INTEGRATION OF A VOICE RECOGNITION SYSTEM IN A SOCIAL ROBOT

Human–robot interaction (HRI) ^{1 1}HRI can be defined as the study of humans, robots, and the ways in which they influence each other. is one of the main fields in the study and research of robotics. Within this field, dialogue systems and interaction by voice play an important role. When speaking about human–robot natural dialogue we assume that the robot has the capability to accurately recognize what the human wants to transmit verbally and even its semantic meaning, but this is not always achieved. In this article we describe the steps and requirements that we went through in order to endow the personal social robot Maggie, developed at the University Carlos III of Madrid, with the capability of understanding the natural language spoken by any human. We have analyzed the different possibilities offered by current software/hardware alternatives by testing them in real environments. We have obtained accurate data related to the speech recognition capabilities in different environments, using the most modern audio acquisition systems and analyzing not so typical parameters such as user age, gender, intonation, volume, and language. Finally, we propose a new model to classify recognition results as accepted or rejected, based on a second automatic speech recognition (ASR) opinion. This new approach takes into account the precalculated success rate in noise intervals for each recognition framework, decreasing the rate of false positives and false negatives.     

The impact of text‐based CMC on improving L2 oral fluency

This paper reports on a study investigating the potential effect of synchronous and asynchronous text‐based computer‐mediated communication (CMC) on oral fluency development of second‐language (L2) learners. Sixty‐three intermediate learners of English were randomly assigned to one of three groups (two experimental groups and one control group), each consisting of 21 participants. The participants in the experimental groups completed four communicative tasks under two different instructional environments: synchronous text‐based CMC environment and asynchronous text‐based CMC environment. The average length of pauses, the articulation rate, the fluent‐run, the phonation‐time ratio and the speaking rate served as dependent variables. The study found that the participants in synchronous CMC group improved their L2 oral fluency significantly compared with their peers in the other two groups. The results also revealed the students in asynchronous CMC group obtained higher mean scores than those in the control group, although the differences between groups were not statistically significant.

Characterizing the computational power of energy-based P systems

We investigate the computational power of energy-based P systems, a model of membrane systems, where a fixed amount of energy is associated with each object and the rules transform single objects by adding or removing energy from them. We answer the recently proposed open questions about the power of such systems without priorities associated with the rules, for both sequential and maximally parallel modes. We also conjecture that deterministic energy-based P systems are not computationally complete.     

面向信息检索的近邻语言模型

面向信息检索的语言模型对单篇文档构建语言模型,存在较严重的数据稀疏问题。该文认为利用文档的近邻信息能够更合理地反映词在文档中的分布,有助于数据稀疏问题的解决,因此将文档的近邻信息加入语言模型的平滑算法中,提出近邻语言模型。该文在TREC评测的典型文档集美国能源署文件(DOE)和《华尔街日报》(WSJ)数据集上测试了在不同近邻选择来源上近邻语言模型的性能。实验结果表明,近邻语言模型对检索性能有一定的提升。     

汉语情感问题类型分类研究

随着网络搜索引擎技术的飞速发展,对于问答系统的需求愈发迫切。而问答系统处理问题的第一步就需要分辨情感问题和非情感问题并对情感问题进行分类。该文首先分析了当前问答系统和问题分类领域的研究现状,总结了一些存在的问题。然后针对情感问题从三个方面进行分类。在语义层面,提取了三个关键词;在语法层面,通过规则的制定,将其分成五种疑问句类型;在领域层面,通过搜索引擎的相关网页数量来进行判断。再对综合上述三个方面所开发出的测试系统进行分析。实验结果表明:对于情感问题的分类,从三个层面进行分析比较全面。
