Feedback-feedforward control of structures under seismic excitation   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
While the base acceleration resulting from a seismic activity on a civil engineering structure is not known a priori, it can be measured in real time. In this paper, it is shown that this extra information can be used for achieving a better control of the structure with little additional effort. The approach taken is to augment the equations of motion for the structural system with an appropriate model of the earthquake excitation based on filtering a Gaussian white noise process. The augmented equations of motion are used to determine a control which utilizes both feedback and feedforward compensation. The feedback loop incorporates measurements of the response of the structure into the control law. The information from both the structure and the earthquake excitation model is utilized in the feedforward control law with an observer designed to estimate the states of the eartquake model based upon the base acceleration measurements. A quadratic performance index is used as a measure of optimality of the control algorithms. Results are given which indicate that the proposed method offers advantages in performance over the control method employing only state feedback and that it is also able to improve upon results of the recently develped instntaneous control algorithms. It is also shown that the nostationarity in the earthquake excitation can often be neglected in practical design of linear systems. Finally, a discussion is given of how the method might be coupled with equivalent linearization techniques and extended for use with nonlinear structures.  相似文献

We present a sub‐structuring method for the coupling between a large elastic structure, and a stratified soil half‐space exhibiting random heterogeneities over a bounded domain and impinged by incident waves. Both media are also weakly dissipative. The concept of interfaces classically used in sub‐structuring methods is extended to ‘volume interfaces’ in the proposed approach. The random dimension of the stochastic fields modelling the heterogeneities in the soil is reduced by introducing a Karhunen–Loéve expansion of these stochastic fields. The coupled overall problem is solved by Monte‐Carlo simulation techniques. A realistic example of a large industrial structure interacting with an uncertain stratified soil medium under earthquake is finally presented. Evaluation of the fit of a data set to an algebraic model often relies on the squared correlation coefficient (r-2). Algebraic models commonly prescribe functions between two variables that are monotonic. We created data sets that are monotonic but otherwise random and computed their r-2 values. These values are shown to far exceed those for data sets not constrained to be monotonic. We tabulated selected cumulants of the distribution of r-2 for monotone data fit to two common models, linear and power functions, for several conditions of randomness for data sets comprising 3, 9, and 15 points. Random monotone data fit all these functions well. The common experimental practices of averaging several sets of data and using regular spacing in the values of the independent variable both tend to produce slight additional improvements in fit. Consideration of these results reveals that correlation alone is inadequate to test the fit of monotone data to algebraic models. Some helpful auxiliary techniques are recommended. Renewal point processes show up in many different fields of science and engineering. In some cases the renewal points become the only observable parts of an anticipated hidden random variation of some physical quantity. The hypothesis might be that a hidden random process originating from zero or some other low value only becomes visible at the time of first crossing of some given value level, and that the process is restarted from scratch immediately after the level crossing. It might then be of interest to reveal the defining properties of this hidden process from a sample of observed first-passage times. In this paper the hidden process is first anticipated as a non-stationary Ornstein–Uhlenbeck (OU) process with unknown parameters that have to be estimated only by use of the information contained in a sample of first-passage times. The estimation method is a direct application of the Fortet integral equation of the OU process. A non-stationary Feller process is considered subsequently. As the OU process, the Feller process has a known transition probability distribution that allows the formulation of the integral equation. The described integral equation estimation method also provides a subjective graphical test of the applicability of the OU process or the Feller process when applied to a reasonably large sample of observed first-passage data.

These non-stationary processes have several applications in biomedical research, for example as idealized models of the neuron membrane potential. When the potential reaches a certain threshold the neuron fires, whereupon the potential drops to a fixed initial value, from where it continuously builds up again until the next firing. Also in civil engineering there are hidden random phenomena such as internal cracking or corrosion that after some random time break through to the material surface and become observable. However, the OU process has as a model of physical phenomena the defect of not being bounded to the negative side. This defect is not present for the Feller process, which therefore may provide a useful modeling alternative to the OU process.  相似文献

Roughening behavior of the free surface of polycrystalline iron during plane strain compression is investigated experimentally. The changes in the shape of the free surface, which is roughened during plastic deformation, are observed in the three-dimensions. It is found that the mountains and the valleys of the roughened shape tend to elongate in the constrained direction for the specimen with isotropic grain shape. The shapes of the roughness curves in the loading direction and in the constrained direction are compared. The normalized height distribution of the roughness curve in the constrained direction is symmetric, while that of the roughness curve in the loading direction is asymmetric and positively skew during plane strain compression. Based on a simple simulation of the roughness curves by a random midpoint displacement method, this difference is supposed to be caused by the constraint of the material flow under plane strain condition.  相似文献

Most riparian trees are phreatophytic, water table‐dependent plants which broadly differ in their tolerance to drought and permanent flooding. In semi‐arid settings, as water is limiting, inundations may be regarded as inputs rather than stresses for the survival of phreatophytes. In this study, the mortality rates and abundances of Populus alba, P. nigra, Salix alba and local Tamarix spp. were examined in 43 plots with different hydrologic conditions distributed across the floodplain of a large semi‐arid and Mediterranean river, the Ebro River (Spain). The objectives were to determine hydrologic thresholds for the maintenance of declining populations of those species, while providing novel information on their phreatophytic nature, and to examine shifts in the species composition along hydrologic gradients. All species exhibited significant relationships between mortality rates and hydrologic variables (deepest water table—WT, flood duration—FD and flood frequency—FF). S. alba was found to be the species with lowest tolerance to drier conditions (hydrologic thresholds for maintaining a mortality rate <50%: WT > ?1.22 m; FD: out of observation range; FF > 5.4 events y?1), followed by P. nigra (WT > ?2.18 m; FD > 11.1%; FF > 3.8 events y?1), Tamarix spp. (WT > ?2.96 m; FD > 3.7%; FF > 2.5 events y?1) and P. alba (WT > ?3.45 m; FD > 1.7%; FF > 2.0 events y?1). Only a significant reduction in S. alba relative abundance was observed as conditions got drier. The results provided quantitative information useful to guide management plans for the protection of Mediterranean phreatophytic tree species from further degradation and suggested that eventual natural or regulation‐induced droughts and groundwater declines would accelerate the loss of all phreatophytic species, especially S. alba. It is described by a semi-Markov random walk with a negative drift at an angle of 0 < α < 90°, with positive random jumps, a delay, an absorbing screen at zero, and a reflecting screen for a > 0 at an angle α. We use imprecise probabilities, based on a concept of generalized coherence, for the management of uncertainty in artificial intelligence. With the aim of reducing the computational difficulties, in the checking of generalized coherence we propose a method which exploits, in the framework of the betting criterion, suitable subsets of the sets of values of the random gains. We give an algorithm in each step of which a linear system with a reduced number of unknowns can be used. Our method improves a procedure already existing in literature and could be integrated with recent approaches of other authors, who exploit suitable logical conditions with the aim of splitting the problem into subproblems. We remark that our approach could be also used in combination with efficient methods like column generation techniques. Finally, to illustrate our method, we give some examples.  相似文献

Two parallel algorithms for finding minimum spanning forest (MSF) of a weighted undirected graph on hypercube computers, consisting of a fixed number of processors, are presented. One algorithm is suited for sparse graphs, the other for dense graphs. Our design strategy is based on successive elimination of non-MSF edges. The input graph is partitioned equally among different processors, which then repeatedly eliminate non-MSF edges and merge results to gradually construct the desired MSF of the entire graph. Low communication overhead is achieved by restricting the message-flow to between the neighboring processors in the hypercube topology. The correctness of our approach is due to a theorem which states that with total-ordered edges, if an edge of an arbitrary subgraph does not belong to its MSF, then it does not belong to the MSF of the entire graph. For a graph of n vertices and m edges, our first algorithm finds an MSF in O(m log m)/p) time using p processors for p ≤ (mlog m)/n(1+log(m/n)). The second algorithm, efficient for dense graphs, requires O(n2/p) time for pn/log n.  相似文献
