The corrosion behavior and interfacial contact resistance (ICR) of niobium implanted SS316L used as the bipolar plate in a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) are investigated. The ICR values of the bare and niobium implanted SS316L are measured to evaluate the electrical conductivity. The effects of ion implantation on the corrosion behavior are investigated by potentiodynamic and potentiostatic tests in the simulated PEMFC anode and cathode environments. The solutions after the potentiostatic test are analyzed by inductively-coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). The surface topography of the samples before and after the potentiostatic test is monitored by SEM in order to investigate the mechanism and degree of corrosion. The XPS results indicate that the composition on the surface is altered by ion implantation. The electrochemical results reveal that the passivation current density of the Nb implanted SS316L decreases and has higher chemical stability in the simulated PEMFC environment. However, the ion implantation fluence affects the current density. The ICP results are in agreement with those of the electrochemical test disclosing that the bare SS316L has the highest dissolution rate in both the cathode and anode environments and niobium implantation reduces the dissolution rate significantly. SEM shows that the bare SS316L undergoes serious corrosion whereas after Nb ion implantation, corrosion is greatly retarded. The XPS depth profiles indicate that a passive film with a new composition consisting mainly of niobium oxide is formed after the potentiostatic test. Our results suggest that niobium implantation with proper ion fluences can significantly improve the corrosion resistance and the electric conductivity of SS316L in the simulated PEMFC environments. 相似文献

Presented in this study is the result of steel plates developed at laboratory by using the technique of chemistry design based on microstructure evolution.It has been shown that the produced 50mm thickness steel plates with yield and tensile strength being 420 MPa and 530 MPa respectively exhibit excellent large heat input weldability:the Charpy impact tests in the whole range of heat affected zone(HAZ) including the fusion line at the welded joint with large heat input of 100 -300 kJ/cm showed uniform impact toughness of above 140 J at -40℃.Welding simulations were also performed for heat inputs of 200-600 kJ/cm,which showed far better toughness at -20℃.Analysis on the results of the simulations and the practical welding tests were done and the microstructure evolution mechanisms were proposed.Finally suggestions were given to improve the simulation processes as well as chemistry modification. 相似文献

In this work, two nitride coatings deposited on aluminum-based bipolar plates via cathodic arc evaporation physical vapor deposition (CAE-PVD) have been evaluated using two different techniques. The coating materials, a multi-layer chromium-zirconium nitride (ZrN–CrN) and a monolayer chromium nitride (CrN) have been exposed to electrochemical polarization tests for corrosion resistance simulating the typical environment in the anode and cathode sides in polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFC). Besides, two 3-cell PEMFC stacks, one per each coating material, have been formed. The migration of metal cations toward both the gas diffusion layers (GDL) and catalyst layers have been analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), after 100 h of continuous operation of the stacks. Results have shown that the two coatings applied over the Al-plates satisfy the corrosion resistance requirements in the short-term tests performed at the two stacks. Moreover, results obtained from electrochemical polarization tests have revealed that the CrN-coating confers a good corrosion resistance to the Al-based metal plate, achieving values of corrosion potential and corrosion current two orders of magnitude lower than the ones obtained for the Al alloy as-received. 相似文献
