In internal curing, pre-wetted lightweight aggregates (LWA) serve as internal reservoirs to supply the extra water needed by the cementitious and pozzolanic components of the concrete during their hydration processes. Due to their porous nature and reasonably high absorption capacity, the LWA can also be filled with other materials, such as phase change materials (PCMs). In this paper, three potential applications of PCM-filled LWA in concrete technology are presented. In addition to the previously explored application of increasing the energy storage capacity of concrete in residential and commercial construction by using a PCM with a transition temperature near room temperature, applications for higher and lower temperature PCMs also exist. In the former case, a PCM can be used to reduce the temperature rise (and subsequent rate of temperature decrease) of a large concrete section during (semi)adiabatic curing, to minimize thermal cracking, etc. In the latter case, a PCM can perhaps reduce the number or intensity of freeze/thaw cycles experienced by a bridge deck or other concrete exposed to a winter environment. In this paper, these latter two applications are preliminarily explored from both experimental and modeling viewpoints.  相似文献

The effectiveness of a new type of alkali activator is studied. The activator is a product of silica fume. The results obtained showed the silica fume activator as a highly effective substance for the alkali activation of the combinations of Portland cement, silica fume and blast furnace slag, and slag alone. The positive effect of activator is based on the intensification of the production of calcium silicate hydrates and the densifying of the forming pore structure of the activated binder.  相似文献

Marine exposure conditions provide an aggressive environment for reinforced concrete structures, mainly due to the occurrence of chloride-induced reinforcement corrosion. There are several influencing factors, but despite a lot of research little is known about the influence from variations in the exposure conditions. Therefore an exposure programme has been made, where concrete specimens, made from one single concrete composition, have been exposed at 12 marine locations around the world, along with a parallel study under laboratory conditions. The specimens have been constantly submerged during the exposure to get well-defined exposure conditions. The purpose was to get a quantitative measure of how different exposure conditions influence the durability of reinforced concrete, measured in terms of chloride ingress into the concrete. The results indicate that the exposure conditions (salinity and temperature of seawater), as expected, influenced the chloride ingress. This is further analysed and discussed in the paper.  相似文献

A terahertz time-domain spectroscopy(THz-TDS)imaging system can obtain high-dimensional signals with substance fingerprint information.By introducing geometric algebra,a novel signal analysis approach to THz-TDS signals is developed based on an optical physical mechanism.Using this approach,signals are represented with vectors in the high-dimensional real vector space.Geometric distribution properties and algebraic relationships of THz-TDS signals are deduced.It is proved that every complex refractive index of substances relates to a unique 2-blade,the vectors corresponding to the samples of the same substance are collinear and belong to the intrinsic 2-blade of the substance.When decomposed through the conformal split with respect to a 2-blade,THz-TDS signals of high dimensionality can be related to vectors in a 2-dimensional subspace.Based on the conformal split properties we deduced,two criteria for substance identification on the basis of THz-TDS signals are proposed.Accordingly,a novel substance identification method via the conformal split is presented.In the method,the 2-blade related to each "known" substance is calculated with two vectors corresponding to THz-TDS signals measured from samples of the substance but with dierent thicknesses.Using the conformal split with respect to those 2-blades,an identified vector corresponding to a THz-TDS signal is linearly related to the vector in a 2-dimensional subspace.The substance of a sample can be identified using criteria on the projected vectors in the subspaces.This method can contribute to accurate classification and identification.Finally,two experiments are presented that show the feasibility and accuracy of this method.  相似文献

Technical documents, which often have complicated structures, are often produced during Architecture/Engineering/Construction (A/E/C) projects and research. Applying information retrieval (IR) techniques directly to long or multi-topic documents often does not lead to satisfactory results. One way to address the problem is to partition each document into several “passages”, and treat each passage as an independent document. In this research, a novel passage partitioning approach is designed. It generates passages according to domain knowledge, which is represented by base domain ontology. Such a passage is herein defined as an OntoPassage. In order to demonstrate the advantage of the OntoPassage partitioning approach, this research implements a concept-based IR system to illustrate the application of such an approach. The research also compares the OntoPassage partitioning approach with several conventional passage partitioning approaches to verify its IR effectiveness. It is shown that, with the proposed OntoPassage approach, IR effectiveness on domain-specific technical reports is as good as conventional passage partitioning approaches. In addition, the OntoPassage approach provides the possibility to display the concepts in each passage, and concept-based IR may thus be implemented.  相似文献
