This article, the first of three articles on the synthesis of rice processing plants, focuses on the development of simplified mathematical models necessary for use in optimizing rice processing plants. The second concentrates on the optimal synthesis of a rice plant and the third on the sensitivity of the optimization to uncertainty in model parameters. Existing models for rice processing unit operations are not suitable for flowsheet optimization and new models need to be developed to overcome numerical difficulties that occur in optimization applications, specifically in mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) applications. Simplified models of the drying, cooling, and tempering units are developed. In addition head rice yield models, used as a quality indicator, energy consumption, and economic models were also developed. Naturally, the new models exhibit some mismatch with respect to the existing models from which they were developed. However, a sensitivity analysis, presented in Part III, has shown that the optimal flowsheet structure was not sensitive to a lack of fit between the simplified and complex models. Action calculi, which generalise process calculi such as Petri nets, π-calculusand ambient calculus, have been presented
in terms of action graphs. We here offer linear action graphs as a primitive basis for action calculi. This paper presents the category of embeddings of undirected linear
action graphs without nesting, using a novel form of graphical reasoning which simplifies some otherwise complex manipulations
in regular algebra. The results are adapted in a few lines to directed graphs. This work is part of a long-term search for
a uniform behavioural theory for process calculi.

The infrastructure renewal program at MIT consists of a large number of projects with an estimated budget that could approach $1 billion. Infrastructure renewal at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is the process of evaluating and investing in the maintenance of facility systems and basic structure to preserve existing campus buildings. The selection and prioritization of projects must be addressed with a systematic method for the optimal allocation of funds and other resources. This paper presents a case study of a prioritization method utilizing multi-attribute utility theory. This method was developed at MIT's Department of Nuclear Engineering and was deployed by the Department of Facilities after appropriate modifications were implemented to address the idiosyncrasies of infrastructure renewal projects and the competing criteria and constraints that influence the judgment of the decision-makers. Such criteria include minimization of risk, optimization of economic impact, and coordination with academic policies, programs, and operations of the Institute. A brief overview of the method is presented, as well as the results of its application to the prioritization of infrastructure renewal projects. 从理论上说明在一定条件下,液态硅铁合金自由出口处形成液滴的体积仅与液体的表面张力和出流孔直径有关。且当该体积液滴的重力和上部液体的内聚力相等时,液滴即可分离自由下落。据此理论进行了试验,结果表明,液态硅铁合金可直接进入冷却液中形成球状颗粒。且当出流孔径d=8mm,浇注温度为1420℃,落差H=150mm,油层/水层为700mm/1000mm时,76%的颗粒形状几乎都近于圆球形,颗粒体积与理论计算值最大偏差不超过10%。同时,这种液态硅铁合金直接颗粒化的方法与机械破碎法相比具有简易、快捷、节能、高效的优点。 相似文献
