We report the formation of silver nanoclusters of average size ∼ 1.1 nm in a single step ion-exchanged silica glass. Silver clusters are formed in a glass during ion-exchange by fine-tuning the ion-exchange parameters such as salt composition, temperature and time. Such nanocluster formation during ion-exchange preserves the waveguiding properties of the ion-exchanged surface of the glass making them suitable for nonlinear waveguide device fabrication. 相似文献

In this paper, modeling and simulation of a new type of controlled drug delivery micro-device based on biodegradable polymers is reported. The micro-device consists of micro-chambers arrays for drug storage to achieve linear release. The micro-chambers are fabricated with polyanhydrides (CPP-SA) using the UV-LIGA technology and the controlled release process are the combined results of the design of the micro-chambers and the biodegradable characteristics of the polymer. This type of drug delivery system has some unique advantages in controlled long-term drug delivery, such as larger loading volume than the matrices release systems, easier control for the release rate, etc. It is necessary to optimize the structure for the long-term and zero-order drug release. Based on the Monte Carlo erosion model, the drug release model is founded for the drug delivery system and using the new model, the drug release profiles from the delivery systems with different structures are simulated. The simulated results indicate that the effect of the drug delivery is dependent on the micro-structure of the delivery system and the simulated drug profiles of coaxial rings micro-cavity shape equal to zero-order released model approximatively. The simulated results are very important to the application research of the new biodegradable polymer micro-device. 相似文献

Firstly, the compress experiment is undertaken to investigate the efficiency of repaired panels in this paper, and then modeling of the mechanical behavior of the repaired composite panel under compressive static load is conducted by using of the finite element method. The effect of geometric non-linearity on the stress–strain response is considered in the numeric analysis. Fatherly, the user material subroutine (UMAT) is integrated with the ABAQUS package with the geometric non-linearity effect for studying the damage initiation and its progression in the composite structure, and quadrilateral, linear, thick shell elements (S8R) are adopted. The study of the variation of the curvature of non-symmetric composite laminates with temperature provides a measure of the magnitude of the thermal stresses and the mechanical behavior of the material with temperature. In the present work, an experimental method based on the pioneer use of a digital camera and image processing method is proposed to perform such measurements. An experimental study on natural convection heat transfer on a horizontal downward facing heated surface in a water gap has been carried out under atmospheric pressure conditions. A total of 7204 experimental data points are correlated using Rayleigh versus Nusselt number correlations in various forms, based on different independent variables. The effects of different characteristic lengths and film temperatures are discussed. The buoyancy force acts as a resistance force for natural convection heat transfer on a downward facing horizontal heated surface in a confined space. For the estimation of the natural convection heat transfer under the present conditions, empirical correlations in which Nusselt number is expressed as a function of Rayleigh number, or Rayleigh and Prandtl numbers both, may be used. However, the best accuracy is provided by an empirical correlation which expresses the Nusselt number as a function of the Rayleigh and Prandtl numbers, as well as the gap width-to-heated surface diameter ratio; and uses the temperature difference between the heated surface and the ambient fluid in the definition of Rayleigh number. Carbon mat thermoplastics (CMT) consisting of 12.7 mm long, chopped carbon fibers in a polypropylene matrix were manufactured using the wetlay technique at fiber volume fractions (FVF) from 10% to 25%, and tests simulating the compression molding process were conducted. The packing stress of the CMT followed a power law relation with FVF. A single fiber pull-out fixture was used to measure the frictional and hydrodynamic lubrication coefficients at fiber–fiber touch points, and results were fit with an existing relation for glass mat thermoplastics. In isothermal squeeze flow the load–displacement behavior for the 10% FVF CMT was similar in shape to that for a fluid with a yield stress. However, for FVFs of 15–25%, the load–displacement curves showed a load spike at the beginning of the flow, then followed the curve for a fluid with a yield stress. The spike was attributed to fiber breakage that increased with increasing FVF of the sample. 相似文献

Localized multiple kernel learning (LMKL) is an attractive strategy for combining multiple heterogeneous features in terms of their discriminative power for each individual sample. However, models excessively fitting to a specific sample would obstacle the extension to unseen data, while a more general form is often insufficient for diverse locality characterization. Hence, both learning sample-specific local models for each training datum and extending the learned models to unseen test data should be equally addressed in designing LMKL algorithm. In this paper, for an integrative solution, we propose a probability confidence kernel (PCK), which measures per-sample similarity with respect to probabilistic-prediction-based class attribute: The class attribute similarity complements the spatial-similarity-based base kernels for more reasonable locality characterization, and the predefined form of involved class probability density function facilitates the extension to the whole input space and ensures its statistical meaning. Incorporating PCK into support-vectormachine-based LMKL framework, we propose a new PCK-LMKL with arbitrary l(p)-norm constraint implied in the definition of PCKs, where both the parameters in PCK and the final classifier can be efficiently optimized in a joint manner. Evaluations of PCK-LMKL on both benchmark machine learning data sets (ten University of California Irvine (UCI) data sets) and challenging computer vision data sets (15-scene data set and Caltech-101 data set) have shown to achieve state-of-the-art performances. 相似文献
