One hundred and twenty-five pairs of chicken drumsticks were randomly allocated to one of five dose rates: 5, 10, 15, 20 or 600 kGyh-. The highest dose rate was obtained using a linear accelerator whilst the remaining dose rates were provided using a 60 Co gamma source. Each batch of 25 pairs was further divided into groups five of which were stored at 4°C for 0, 7, 14, 21 or 28 days. ESR spectroscopy was used to measure the intensity of the radiation-induced signal. There was a quadratic relationship between ESR signal strength and dose rate, which although statistically significant is unlikely to be of practical importance. The magnitude of the ESR signal declined by about 20% over the first 14 days of storage at 4°C and thereafter the decrease was minimal. 相似文献

Preparation of photoreactive Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films was carried out using polymers/oligomers prepared from long-chain dialkyl esters of di-and tetra-olefins and having cyclobutane rings in the main chain. These polymers/oligomers formed stable monolayers on a water surface when mixed with arachidic acid. These monolayers could be deposited onto a substrate successfully forming Y-type films. The oligomer LB films were polymerized on irradiation. The polymer LB films showed a photo-reversible process between polymers and oligomers, depending on wavelength of the irradiating light. On the basis of spectral data and molecular weight change, this behaviour was found to be caused by cleavage and formation of cyclobutane rings. 相似文献

The degradation behaviour of Kodar [poly(1,4-cyclohexylene dimethyl-eneterephthalate)] was investigated in air using thermogravimetry, differential thermal analysis and wide angle X-ray diffraction studies. The rates of crystallization and degradation were influenced by thermal exposure and polychromatic irradiation (Λ > 290 nm) for different time intervals. A panel of experienced assessors was used to test the effect of irradiation at 2.5kGy (250krad) on the sensory quality of 1-day and 21-day-old turkey breast fillets stored at 1°C in either oxygen-permeable polythene or an oxygen-impermeable barrier film. In the application of Free Choice Profiling and Generalized Procrustes Analysis, assessors used their own terms to describe the appearance, odour and flavour of the samples.
The irradiated samples showed negligible growth of micro-organisms across 21 days of storage. Radiation treatment resulted in an intense pink colour in the raw and cooked samples, which was maintained during storage in oxygen-impermeable film, but decreased in samples exposed to oxygen during storage. Radiation also produced a set of unpleasant raw odour notes variously described as sour, rancid, mature, bad meat or putrid in the samples stored in oxygen-impermeable film. These notes were unlike the sulphurous notes previously associated with protein denaturation in irradiated chicken and were apparently distinct from the odour notes that developed in corresponding non-irradiated samples. 相似文献

The mechanism of radiation-induced detwinning is different from that of deformation detwinning as the former is dominated by supersaturated radiation-induced defects while the latter is usually triggered by global stress. In situ Kr ion irradiation was performed to study the detwinning mechanism of nanotwinned Cu films with various twin thicknesses. Two types of incoherent twin boundaries (ITBs), so-called fixed ITBs and free ITBs, are characterized based on their structural features, and the difference in their migration behavior is investigated. It is observed that detwinning during radiation is attributed to the frequent migration of free ITBs, while the migration of fixed ITBs is absent. Statistics shows that the migration distance of free ITBs is thickness and dose dependent. Potential migration mechanisms are discussed. 相似文献

This paper gives a review on self- and dopant diffusion in germanium (Ge) under thermal equilibrium and irradiation conditions and specifies the underlying mechanisms of diffusion and the point defects involved. Diffusion in Ge under thermal equilibrium conditions is mainly controlled by vacancies. However, Ge interstitials mediate the diffusion under concurrent annealing and irradiation. This is verified by the diffusion behavior of self-atoms, boron, phosphorus and arsenic under proton irradiation. The diffusion under irradiation is explained with the property of the Ge surface that is proposed to be an insufficient sink for Ge interstitials. As a consequence, a supersaturation of self-interstitials is established during irradiation, whereas the vacancy concentration is kept at thermal equilibrium. This explains that under irradiation the diffusion of self- and dopant atoms via self-interstitials becomes visible that is otherwise negligible under conventional annealing conditions. Our findings demonstrate ways to switch between vacancy and self-interstitial mediated diffusion and shows new strategies in the diffusion doping of Ge for technological applications. 相似文献

The synthesis and characterisation of 2-tetradecylcyclobutanone (TCB) is described. Both 2-dodecykyclobutanone and TCB were shown to be present in liquid whole egg irradiated at doses of 2.5 and 10.0 kGy. These compounds were absent from the unirradiated pasteurised samples. Using gas chromatography and infrared spectroscopy, there was also evidence for the presence in irradiated egg of 2-tetradeccnyl- and 2-tetradecadienylyclobutanone which are formed from oleic and linoleic acids, respectively. Authentic standards for these unsaturated cyclobutanones were not available commercially but the presence of 2-tetra-decenylcyclobutanone was substantiated by hydrogenating the egg extracts so converting this unsaturated cyclobutanone to TCB. Saturated and unsaturated cyclobutanones appear to be specific products of irradiation and are potential markers for detection of irradiated liquid egg and probably other fat-containing foods. 相似文献
