Field Testing of Voltage Transients Associated with Vacuum Breaker No-Load Switching of a Power Transformer in an Industrial Plant

Reported here are the results of a field investigation of switching-produced transients associated with vacuum circuit breaker switching of an unloaded low-voltage substation transformer. A sufficient sampling of data has been obtained and documented to provide a good statistical basis for this important mode of switching in a very prevalent application area. The results of this field measurements program confirm that the transient voltage environment created by such switching is within, by a wide margin, the expected transient capabilities of the associated power distribution equipment?specific evaluation being made with respect to the switched transformer.     

Unbounded Transactional Memory

Transactional memory should be virtualized to support transactions of arbitrary footprint and duration. The unbounded transactional memory (UTM) architecture achieves high performance in the common case of small transactions, without sacrificing correctness in large transactions.     

A new method for the surgical treatment of patients with paralysis of the tongue

Skeletal muscle biopsies from 18 children and 8 from their mothers were studied in mitochondrial myopathies. It is shown that by means of electron microscopy, histochemistry, and morphometry the correct diagnosis of mitochondrial insufficiency is quite possible.     

The surgical anatomy of the long muscles of the neck and head and the potentials for their use in reconstructive operations on the palatopharyngeal sphincter

The authors analyze the results of topographoanatomic studies of the prevertebral muscles of the neck, carried out in 37 nonfixed human corpses. They substantiate the possibility of leaving intact the vasculonervous branches in cutting and translocating towards the soft palate of the grafts on an upper peduncle from long muscles of the neck and head.
