This paper presents the results of an experimental study of semiintegral bridge abutments. Primary interests were to investigate (1) potential problems with the particular detail tested; (2) rotational characteristics of the semiintegral abutments; and (3) ability of the specimens to withstand cyclic loading induced by temperature variations during the expected life of the bridge. Sixteen experiments were conducted on three large-scale specimens. The results of the tests have shown that semiintegral abutments can significantly reduce the moments transferred from the superstructure to the foundation piles. Test results have also shown that semiintegral abutments can tolerate the number of displacement cycles that a bridge will experience during the course of its economic life.  相似文献

StatCom-SMES     
This article presents the modeling and control of the integration of a StatCom (static-synchronous compensator) with SMES (superconducting magnetic energy storage system) and its dynamic response to system oscillations caused by a three-phase fault. It has been shown that the StatCom-SMES combination can be very effective in damping power system oscillations. Adding energy storage enhances the performance of a StatCom and possibly reduces the MVA ratings requirements of the StatCom operating alone. This is important for a cost/benefit analysis of installing flexible AC transmission system controllers on utility systems. It should be noted that, in this study, the StatCom provides a real power flow path for SMES, but the SMES controller is independent of the StatCom controller. While the StatCom is ordered to absorb or inject reactive power, the SMES is ordered to absorb/inject real power. It was also observed that the location where the combined compensator is connected is important for improvement of overall system dynamic performance. Although the use of a reactive power controller seems more effective in a load area, this simulation study shows that a StatCom with real power capability can damp the power system oscillations more effectively, thereby stabilizing the system faster-if the StatCom-SMES controller is located near a generation area rather than a load area.  相似文献

Abstract

Combination therapy using anticancer drugs and nucleic acid is a more promising strategy to overcome multidrug resistance in cancer and to enhance apoptosis. In this study, lipid-polymer hybrid nanoparticles (LPNs), which contain both pemetrexed and miR-21 antisense oligonucleotide (anti-miR-21), have been developed for treatment of glioblastoma, the most aggressive type of brain tumor. Prepared LPNs have been well characterized by particle size distribution and zeta potential measurements, determination of encapsulation efficiency, and in vitro release experiments. Morphology of LPNs was determined by transmission electron microscopy. LPNs had a hydrodynamic size below 100?nm and exhibited sustained release of pemetrexed up to 10?h. Encapsulation of pemetrexed in LPNs increased cellular uptake from 6% to 78%. Results of confocal microscopy analysis have shown that co-delivery of anti-miR-21 significantly improved accumulation of LPNs in the nucleus of U87MG cells. Nevertheless, more effective cytotoxicity results could not be obtained due to low concentration of anti-miR-21, loaded in LPNs. We expect that the effective drug delivery systems can be obtained with higher concentration of anti-miR-21 for the treatment of glioblastoma.  相似文献

This study aims to model and simulate static nonlinear loads with wind power generation to evaluate the impact of load models on wind power systems. Nonlinear loads are modeled as exponential load model, ZIP load model and combination of exponential/ZIP with an induction motor. The wind power generator is represented with a reduced-order doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) model. Developed models have been implemented in a grid-integrated wind power plant and simulated in MATLAB/SIMULINK. The effects of nonlinear loads into wind power plant are investigated in terms of bus voltages, angular speed, electrical torque, and dq stator axes currents. Additional analyses are conducted to compare the behaviors of full- and reduced-order DFIG models under a selected loading condition. The results of this study indicate that the response of a system with DFIG is dependent of the load modeling and reduced-order DFIG model shows more stable trend than full-order DFIG model.  相似文献

While energy storage technologies do not represent energy sources, they provide valuable added benefits to improve stability power quality, and reliability of supply. Battery technologies have improved significantly in order to meet the challenges of practical electric vehicles and utility applications. Flywheel technologies are now used in advanced nonpolluting uninterruptible power supplies. Advanced capacitors are being considered as energy storage for power quality applications. Superconducting energy storage systems are still in their prototype stages but receiving attention for utility applications. The latest technology developments, some performance analysis, and cost considerations are addressed. This paper presents the modeling and simulation results of a superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) system for power transmission applications. This is the largest SMES coil ever built for power utility applications and has the following unique design characteristics: 50 MW (96 MW peak), 100 MJ, 24 kV dc interface. As a consequence of the high-power and high-voltage interface, special care needs to be taken with overvoltages that can stress the insulation of the SMES coil, especially in its cryogenic operating environment. The transient overvoltages impressed on the SMES coil are the focus of this investigation. Suppression methods were also studied to minimize transients. The simulation is based on detailed coil and multiphase gate turn-off (GTO)-based chopper models. This paper presents a detailed model for simulation of a Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) system. SMES technology has the potential to bring real power storage characteristic to the utility transmission and distribution systems. The principle of SMES system operation is reviewed in this paper. To understand transient and dynamic performance of a SMES system, a detailed SMES system benchmark model is given with extensive simulation results. Measurement of the moisture content of inorganic soils is frequently needed for many engineering activities. The standard test method by ASTM D2216 is very accurate, but the associated drying time up to 24 h is not always desirable. This study investigates the usability of infrared (IR) drying of inorganic soils in reducing the drying time under constant temperature. It was found that accuracy of the proposed IR oven method is excellent and the associated drying time is 80% less than that of a conventional convective oven. Drying time for zero plasticity soils such as sands was found to be about 1 min per gram of initial sample mass. Soil plasticity was found to increase the drying time up to 100% compared to that of zero plasticity soils.  相似文献
