Stochastic ordering results for consecutive k-out-of-n:F systems   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A linear (circular) consecutive k-out-of-n:F system is a system of n linearly (circularly) ordered components which fails if and only if at least k consecutive components fail. We use recursive relationships on the reliability of such systems with independent identically distributed components to show that for any fixed k, the lifetime of a (linear or circular) consecutive k-out-of-n:F system is stochastically decreasing in n. This result also holds for linear systems when the components are independent and not necessarily identically distributed, but not in general for circular systems.  相似文献

This report demonstrates highly efficient nonradiative energy transfer (NRET) from alloyed CdSeS/ZnS semiconductor nanocrystal quantum dots (QDs) to MoS2 films of varying layer thicknesses, including pristine monolayers, mixed monolayer/bilayer, polycrystalline bilayers, and bulk‐like thicknesses, with NRET efficiencies of over 90%. Large‐area MoS2 films are grown on Si/SiO2 substrates by chemical vapor deposition. Despite the ultrahigh NRET efficiencies there is no distinct increase in the MoS2 photoluminescence intensity. However, by studying the optoelectronic properties of the MoS2 devices before and after adding the QD sensitizing layer photocurrent enhancements as large as ≈14‐fold for pristine monolayer devices are observed, with enhancements on the order of ≈2‐fold for MoS2 devices of mixed monolayer and bilayer thicknesses. For the polycrystalline bilayer and bulk‐like MoS2 devices there is almost no increase in the photocurrent after adding the QDs. Industrially scalable techniques are specifically utilized to fabricate the samples studied in this report, demonstrating the viability of this hybrid structure for commercial photodetector or light harvesting applications.  相似文献

A birth-process approach to Moranda's geometric software-reliability model   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
To alleviate some of the objections to the basic Jelinski Moranda (JM) model for software failures, Moranda proposed a geometric de-eutrophication model. This model assumes that the times between failures are statistically-independent exponential random variables with given failure rates. In this model the failure rates decrease geometrically with the detection of a fault. Using an intuitive approach, Musa, Iannino, Okumoto , see also Farr , derived expressions for the mean and the intensity functions of the process N (t) which counts the number of faults detected in the time interval [O, t] for the Moranda geometric de-eutrophication model. N (t) is studied as a pure birth stochastic process; its probability generating function is derived, as well as its mean, intensity and reliability functions. The expressions for the mean and intensity functions derived by MIO are only approximations and can be quite different from the true functions for certain choices of the failure rates. The exact expressions for the mean function and the intensity function of N (t) are used to find the optimum release time of software based on a cost structure for Moranda's geometric de-eutrophication model.  相似文献

An innovative BASF catalyst manufacturing technology (NanoSelect?) is introduced which allows production of heterogeneous catalysts with excellent control over metal crystallite sizes. NanoSelect? technology enabled the development of Pd catalysts which are lead-free Lindlar catalyst replacements in alkyne-to-cis-alkene hydrogenations. NanoSelect? Pt catalysts showed excellent chemoselectivity in substituted nitro-arene hydrogenation reactions without build-up of hydroxylamine intermediates. All NanoSelect? produced catalysts show markedly higher activity per gram of metal leading to ten-fold less use of precious metal.  相似文献

Larval insect herbivores feeding externally on leaves are vulnerable to numerous and varied enemies. Larvae of the Neotropical herbivore, Chelymorpha alternans (Chrysomelidae:Cassidinae), possess shields made of cast skins and feces, which can be aimed and waved at attacking enemies. Prior work with C. alternans feeding on Merremia umbellata (Convolvulaceae) showed that shields offered protection from generalist predators, and polar compounds were implicated. This study used a ubiquitous ant predator, Azteca lacrymosa, in field bioassays to determine the chemical constitution of the defense. We confirmed that intact shields do protect larvae and that methanol-water leaching significantly reduced shield effectiveness. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) of the methanolic shield extract revealed two peaks at 20.18 min and 21.97 min, both with a molecular ion at m/z 593.4, and a strong UV absorption around 409 nm, suggesting a porphyrin-type compound. LC-MS analysis of a commercial standard confirmed pheophorbide a (Pha) identity. C. alternans shields contained more than 100 μg Pha per shield. Shields leached with methanol-water did not deter ants. Methanol-water-leached shields enhanced with 3 μg of Pha were more deterrent than larvae with solvent-leached shields, while those with 5 μg additional Pha provided slightly less deterrence than larvae with intact shields. Solvent-leached shields with 10 μg added Pha were comparable to intact shields, even though the Pha concentration was less than 10% of its natural concentration. Our findings are the first to assign an ecological role for a chlorophyll catabolite as a deterrent in an insect defense.  相似文献

Singlewalled carbon nanotube/polyvinylalcohol composite nanofibers were electro-spun onto a silicon surface pre-patterned with trenches. These nanofibers were prepared with different loadings of SWCNTs and had radii between 20 and 40 nm. Individual fiber sections were pinned across the trenches and laterally loaded by an AFM tip to yield mechanical response curves. A simple model was exploited to extract the tensile mechanical properties from the lateral force-displacement data. Depending on the fiber composition, the tensile modulus was found to be between 3 and 85 GPa. In addition we have prepared fibers with tensile strength of up to 2.6 GPa. Such optimised fibers break at strains of ∼4% and exhibit toughness of up to 27 MJ/m3.  相似文献

Females of the European beewolf, Philanthus triangulum, possess a large glove-shaped gland in the head, the postpharyngeal gland (PPG). They apply the content of the PPG to their prey, paralyzed honeybees, where it delays fungal infestation. Here, we describe the chemical composition of the gland by using combined GC-MS, GC-FTIR, and derivatization. The PPG of beewolves contains mainly long-chain unsaturated hydrocarbons (C23–C33), lower amounts of saturated hydrocarbons (C14–C33), and minor amounts of methyl-branched hydrocarbons (C17–C31). Additionally, the hexane-soluble gland content is comprised of small amounts of an unsaturated C25 alcohol, an unknown sesquiterpene, an octadecenylmethylester, and several long-chain saturated (C25, C27) and unsaturated (C23–C27) ketones, some of which have not yet been reported as natural products. Surprisingly, we found a dimorphism with regard to the major component of the PPG with some females having (Z)-9-pentacosene, whereas others have (Z)-9-heptacosene as their predominant component. The biological relevance of the compounds for the prevention of fungal growth on the prey and the significance of the chemical dimorphism are discussed.  相似文献

In this study, the effects of the sample sectioning temperature on the surface nanostructure and mechanical response of compression moulded ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) at a nanometer scale (nanomechanical properties) have been characterized. The primary focus of this work was to determine if the sample sectioning temperature significantly changed the nanostructure of UHMWPE, while the secondary focus was to characterize the effect on the mechanical response due to the changes in the sectioned surface nanostructure. The goals of this study were: (a) to investigate the potential possibility of creating surface artefacts by the sample preparation technique by sectioning at different temperatures relative to the published range of glass transition temperatures, Tg, for PE (-12, -80 and -25 degrees C); (b) to determine the possibility of molecular orientation induced by plastic deformation of the UHMWPE sample during the process of sample preparation; (c) to measure the relative difference in nanomechanical properties owing to evolution of different nanostructures as a function of sample sectioning temperature. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and nanoindentation were used to demonstrate that the sectioning temperature caused a change in nanostructure of the compression moulded UHMWPE sectioned surface, explaining the change in mechanical response to indentation at a nanoscale. In this study, it was demonstrated that significant plastic deformation occurs when a shear stress is applied between the glass or diamond blade and the UHMWPE during sample preparation under ambient conditions at a temperature of 22 degrees C. These results also suggest that an optimum sample sectioning temperature should definitely be below the measured Tg of the polymer.  相似文献

The anaphylactic shock of the rabbit is characterized by an acute right ventricular overload, accompanied by severe alterations of cardiac electrogenesis. During shock, the mean QRS vector, as measured from the algebraic sum of the Q, R, and S deflections on the three leads, shifts to the right, inferiorly and anteriorly. An injury current quickly appears. The TQ vector points away from the right ventricle. A progressive depolarization on the right ventricular wall is displayed by suction electrodes and the suppression of right ventricular hypertension by a cross circulation produces an almost immediate disappearance of the injury current. The geneses of these electrical alterations are briefly discussed. The possibility of an anaphylactic reaction at the level of the coronary arterial wall, previously mentioned in the literature, seems unlikely. The role of the haemodynamic changes and of the increased right ventricular blood pool is thought to be predominant.  相似文献

The most complete form of academic timetabling problem is the population and course timetabling problem. In this problem, there may be multiple classes of each subject, and the decision on which students are to constitute each class is made in concert with the decision on the timetable for each class. In order to solve this problem, it is normally simplified or decomposed in some fashion. One simplification commonly used in practice is known as blocking: it is assumed that the classes can be partitioned into sets of classes (or blocks) that will be timetabled in parallel. This restricts clashing to occur only between classes in the same block, and essentially removes the timetabling aspect of the problem, which can be carried out once the blocks are constituted and the classes populated. The problem of constituting the blocks and populating the classes, known as the course blocking and population problem, is nevertheless a challenging problem, and provides the focus of this paper. We demonstrate, using data provided by a local high school, that integer linear programming approaches can solve the problem in a matter of seconds. Key features include remodelling to remove symmetry caused by students with identical subject selection, and the observation that in practice, only integrality of the block composition variables needs to be enforced; the class population aspects of the model have strong integrality properties.  相似文献
