The kinetics of simultaneous dehydroxylation and carbonation of precipitated Mg(OH)2 were studied using isothermal and nonisothermal thermogravimetric analyses. Specimens were analyzed using X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and through measurements of the volume of carbon dioxide evolved in a subsequent reaction with hydrochloric acid. From 275° to 475°C, the kinetics of isothermal dehydroxylation in helium were best fit to a contracting-sphere model, yielding an activation energy of 146 kJ/mol, which was greater than values reported in the literature for isothermal dehydroxylation under vacuum (53–126 kJ/mol). The carbonation kinetics were complicated by the fact that dehydroxylation occurred simultaneously. The overall kinetics also could be fit to a contracting-sphere model, yielding a net activation energy of 304 kJ/mol. The most rapid carbonation kinetics occurred near 375°C. At this temperature, Mg(OH)2 underwent rapid dehydroxylation and subsequent phase transformation, whereas thermodynamics favored the formation of carbonate. During carbonation, MgCO3 precipitated on the surface of disrupted Mg(OH)2 crystals acting as a kinetic barrier to both the outward diffusion of H2 O and the inward diffusion of CO2 . 相似文献

This work presents a nonlinear adaptive dynamic surface air speed and a flight path angle control design procedure for the longitudinal dynamics of a generic hypersonic flight vehicle. The proposed design scheme takes into account the magnitude, rate, and bandwidth constraints on the actuator signals. A new approach is used to enhance tracking performance and avoid a large initial control signal. The uncertain nonlinear functions in the flight vehicle model are approximated by using radial basis function neural networks. A detailed stability analysis of the designed controllers shows that all the signals of the closed‐loop system are uniformly ultimately bounded. The robust performance of the design scheme is verified through numerical simulations of the flight vehicle model for various parameter variation test cases. Human Activity Recognition (HAR) is an active research area due to its applications in pervasive computing, human-computer interaction, artificial intelligence, health care, and social sciences. Moreover, dynamic environments and anthropometric differences between individuals make it harder to recognize actions. This study focused on human activity in video sequences acquired with an RGB camera because of its vast range of real-world applications. It uses two-stream ConvNet to extract spatial and temporal information and proposes a fine-tuned deep neural network. Moreover, the transfer learning paradigm is adopted to extract varied and fixed frames while reusing object identification information. Six state-of-the-art pre-trained models are exploited to find the best model for spatial feature extraction. For temporal sequence, this study uses dense optical flow following the two-stream ConvNet and Bidirectional Long Short Term Memory (BiLSTM) to capture long-term dependencies. Two state-of-the-art datasets, UCF101 and HMDB51, are used for evaluation purposes. In addition, seven state-of-the-art optimizers are used to fine-tune the proposed network parameters. Furthermore, this study utilizes an ensemble mechanism to aggregate spatial-temporal features using a four-stream Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), where two streams use RGB data. In contrast, the other uses optical flow images. Finally, the proposed ensemble approach using max hard voting outperforms state-of-the-art methods with 96.30% and 90.07% accuracies on the UCF101 and HMDB51 datasets. 相似文献

Diameters vary significantly in a tow of commercial NicalonTM fibres, which is one of the most attractive ceramic reinforcements for structural composites. It was found that the strength distribution of Nicalon fibres could not be adequately characterized using either single- or bi-modal Weibull distribution. A recently proposed modified Weibull distribution can account for the effect of varying diameter in the characterization of fibre strength. To verify the validity of the modified Weibull distribution, comprehensive mechanical testing and fractographic studies have been conducted on Nicalon SiC fibres with diameters varying from 8 to 22 m. The experimental results have been reported in Part I. Part II of this paper further modifies the derivation of the modified Weibull distribution to yield a relationship which is similar in form, but soundly based on experimental findings. Factors considered in the modified Weibull distribution include the dependence of fracture toughness and flaw density on fibre diameter, both of which may vary with fibre diameter, as reported in Part I. Comparison with experimental data shows that the current modified Weibull distribution works very well, while both single-modal and bi-modal Weibull distributions are inadequate for describing Nicalon fibres with varying diameters. © 1998 Chapman & Hall 相似文献

We present a method to measure the absorption of water molecules from the liquid and the vapour phase into polymer nano-films and the diffusion inside these films. Film thickness can be down to 45 nm. To demonstrate the possibilities of this method we use polymer films that are deposited on the upper side of a silicon cantilever by plasma polymerization of norbornene. When a microdrop of water is deposited onto the initially straight cantilever, the drop causes the cantilever to bend while it evaporates. Evaporation of such small water drops usually takes less than a second. An upwards bending is due to capillary forces and a downwards bending is due to the diffusion of water into the polymer film – and the consequent volume expansion (swelling) of the film. The magnitude of the capillary forces and the extent of swelling continuously change during drop evaporation. When drop evaporation is over the cantilever returns to its initial straight position. We simulate the time dependent bending with a numerical model that qualitatively agrees with the experiment. From the time dependence of cantilever bending we are able to determine the diffusion coefficient of water in the thin polymer film. 相似文献

The storage needs of modern scientific applications are growing exponentially, and designing economical storage solutions for such applications – especially in Grid environments – is an important research topic. This work presents Kosha, a system that aims to harvest redundant storage space on cluster nodes and user desktops to provide a reliable, shared file system that acts as a large distributed storage. Kosha utilizes peer-to-peer (p2p) mechanisms to enhance the widely-used Network File System (NFS). P2P storage systems provide location transparency, mobility transparency, load balancing, and file replication – features that are not available in NFS. On the other hand, NFS provides hierarchical file organization, directory listings, and file permissions, which are missing from p2p storage systems. By blending the strengths of NFS and p2p storage systems, Kosha provides a low overhead storage solution. Our experiments show that compared to unmodified NFS, Kosha introduces a 3.3% fixed overhead and 4.5% additional overhead as nodes are increased from two to sixteen. For larger number of nodes, the additional overhead increases slowly. We consider an optimal control problem for a non-isothermal tube drawing process. The goal is to control the circular cross-sectional area of the tube using the drawing speed as the control variable. To achieve this goal, a cost functional of tracking-type is defined, the first-order optimality condition is derived and the Hessian of the reduced cost functional is derived.
