Characteristics of donors, embryos, recipients, and transfer procedures were examined for relationships with establishment of pregnancy. Data were from records of 1202 embryos transferred by the professional staff of a large embryo transfer company. Average pregnancy rate was 74.6%. Variables affecting establishment of pregnancy were service sire, embryo quality, stage of estrous cycle in recipient, quadratic effect of synchrony, and transfer quality. Because the direct or indirect effect of sire must be established at conception, these data demonstrate a latent effect of sire on pregnancy. One would expect the highest pregnancy rate among excellent quality embryos transferred with no delays or complications into recipients that had displayed estrus at the same time or prior to the donor yet were relatively early in their estrous cycles. There also was a tendency for pregnancy rate to decrease with advancing maturity of the embryo.  相似文献

Multiple human tracking in high-density crowds   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
In this paper, we introduce a fully automatic algorithm to detect and track multiple humans in high-density crowds in the presence of extreme occlusion. Typical approaches such as background modeling and body part-based pedestrian detection fail when most of the scene is in motion and most body parts of most of the pedestrians are occluded. To overcome this problem, we integrate human detection and tracking into a single framework and introduce a confirmation-by-classification method for tracking that associates detections with tracks, tracks humans through occlusions, and eliminates false positive tracks. We use a Viola and Jones AdaBoost detection cascade, a particle filter for tracking, and color histograms for appearance modeling. To further reduce false detections due to dense features and shadows, we introduce a method for estimation and utilization of a 3D head plane that reduces false positives while preserving high detection rates. The algorithm learns the head plane from observations of human heads incrementally, without any a priori extrinsic camera calibration information, and only begins to utilize the head plane once confidence in the parameter estimates is sufficiently high. In an experimental evaluation, we show that confirmation-by-classification and head plane estimation together enable the construction of an excellent pedestrian tracker for dense crowds.  相似文献

The Smart Trek Model Deployment Initiative, a US Department of Transportation-funded intelligent transportation systems program in the Puget Sound region, has made great strides in integrating and disseminating traveler information. The initiative focuses on real time information to help travelers make informed decisions about their travel options. The Smart Trek project has brought about a variety of real time transit information applications. One of these is MyBus, which makes departure predictions and delivers traveler information to Web browsers and cell phones. MyBus aims to present to riders, in real time, the predicted departure times of buses at specific locations throughout a transit region. King County Metro, Seattle's transit agency, operates a large fleet. Up to 1200 vehicles are in service simultaneously, departing from over 1000 locations. MyBus predicts approximately 210000 weekday and 140000 weekend scheduled departure events. This is over a million departure predictions per week. MyBus has shown that predictions on this scale are feasible and manageable. Several technologies are central to the success of MyBus. A common format for the transit agency schedule and spatial data was crucial, letting us redeploy the Seattle pilot project with data from the Portland Tri-Met transit agency with minimal effort. The format we chose was a database schema based directly on the Transit Communications Interface Profiles standards.  相似文献

The past decade has seen a substantial increase in the number of individuals affected by dementia. Dementia places a tremendous personal and economic burden on millions of patients and caregivers annually. Consequently, many scientists have been searching for a treatment for dementia to avoid the imminent public health crisis that will occur if this trend continues. Primary and secondary prevention studies, as well as animal research, demonstrate the potential for hormone replacement therapy (HRT) as an efficacious treatment for dementia. Recently, the Women's Health Initiative-Memory Study began the first randomized, longterm clinical trial to test the hypothesized role of HRT at the onset and in the progression of dementia in women. Researchers also are investigating the potential of other treatments for dementias, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and free radical scavengers.  相似文献

The hematologic abnormalities of SIV and HIV are well described, although the mechanisms that lead to hematopoietic dysfunction are yet to be fully defined. A number of growth factors and cytokines have been used to induce the differentiation, maturation, and proliferation of appropriate lineages, with the aim that such therapy will lead to functional hematopoietic reconstitution. Within this context, some cytokines have been shown to influence HIV and SIV replication in vitro and, in selected cases, in vivo. However, few studies detail the effects of hematopoietic cytokines such as IL-3, Flt-3 ligand, G-CSF, Tpo, and Epo or correlate the effects on virus replication. In an effort to address this issue, we infected 12 rhesus macaques with 500 TCID50 of SIVmac239 and intensively evaluated hematologic, virologic, and immunologic parameters during administration of cytokines. When all animals had lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly, and CD4+ cell counts > or =1000/microl, subgroups of three rhesus macaques were administered either rhFlt-3; rrIL-3a; combination of rhG-CSF, rhTpo, and rhEpo (rhGET); or rrIL-12. Fourteen days of rhFlt-3 administration induced expansion of the bone marrow CD34+ cells and granulocyte-macrophage colony-forming units (GM-CFUs) and increased absolute peripheral blood CD34+ cells and total CFUs. Following rrIL-3 and rhGET administration absolute peripheral blood CD34+ cells and total CFUs increased. rhGET also increased granulocyte, platelet, and reticulocyte counts by day 14 of administration. Branched DNA and coculture assays did not demonstrate any significant change in viral load with any of the cytokines administered. These data suggest that SIV-infected rhesus macaques have the hematopoietic capability to expand and mobilize CD34+ and GM-CFU progenitors and formed elements at 6-8 months postinfection in response to various cytokines, without increasing viral load.  相似文献

The PsaC protein binds two 4Fe-4S centers, FA and FB, in the photosystem I (PSI) protein complex. In the T398 strain of Anabaena variabilis ATCC 29413, the psaC gene encoding this protein has been insertionally inactivated by the introduction of a neomycin resistance gene cartridge in the coding region. Photosystem I complex was purified through native gel electrophoresis of beta-dodecyl maltoside solubilized thylakoid membranes from wild-type and T398 strains of Anabaena 29413. The PSI complex from T398 strain retained functionally active P700, the reaction center chlorophylls. Interestingly, purified PSI complex from T398 cells lacked the PsaD, PsaE, and PsaL polypeptides. Western analysis with polyclonal antibodies raised against these proteins indicated that the two stromal exposed polypeptides, PsaD and PsaE, are absent in isolated thylakoid membranes from T398 cells. The PsaL polypeptide could be detected at a level comparable to that in wild-type thylakoid membranes, although it is absent in the PSI preparation from the mutant. These observations suggest that the PsaC protein is essential for the stable association of PsaD and PsaE, two hydrophilic, extrinsic polypeptides. Moreover, PsaL, a hydrophobic protein is loosely associated with PSI and is lost during the isolation of the PSI complex.  相似文献
