Spatially distributed estimates of evaporative fraction and actual evapotranspiration are pursued using a simple remote sensing technique based on a remotely sensed vegetation index (NDVI) and diurnal changes in land surface temperature. The technique, known as the triangle method, is improved by utilizing the high temporal resolution of the geostationary MSG-SEVIRI sensor. With 15 min acquisition intervals, the MSG-SEVIRI data allow for a precise estimation of the morning rise in land surface temperature which is a strong proxy for total daytime sensible heat fluxes. Combining the diurnal change in surface temperature, dTs with an interpretation of the triangular shaped dTs − NDVI space allows for a direct estimation of evaporative fraction. The mean daytime energy available for evapotranspiration (Rn − G) is estimated using several remote sensors and limited ancillary data. Finally regional estimates of actual evapotranspiration are made by combining evaporative fraction and available energy estimates. The estimated evaporative fraction (EF) and actual evapotranspiration (ET) for the Senegal River basin have been validated against field observations for the rainy season 2005. The validation results showed low biases and RMSE and R2 of 0.13 [−] and 0.63 for EF and RMSE of 41.45 W m− 2 and R2 of 0.66 for ET. 相似文献

In order to obtain high quality data, the correction of atmospheric perturbations acting upon land surface reflectance measurements recorded by a space-based sensor is an important topic within remote sensing. For many years the Second Simulation of the Satellite Signal in the Solar Spectrum (6S) radiative transfer model and the Simplified Method for Atmospheric Correction (SMAC) codes have been used for this atmospheric correction, but previous studies have shown that in a number of situations the quality of correction provided by the SMAC is low. This paper describes a method designed to improve the quality of the SMAC atmospheric correction algorithm through a slight increase in its computational complexity. Data gathered from the SEVIRI aboard Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) is used to validate the additions to SMAC, both by comparison to simulated data corrected using the highly accurate 6S method and by comparison to in-situ and 6S corrected SEVIRI data gathered for two field sites in Africa. The additions to the SMAC are found to greatly increase the quality of atmospheric correction performed, as well as broaden the range of atmospheric conditions under which the SMAC can be applied. When examining the Normalised Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), the relative difference between SMAC and in-situ values decreases by 1.5% with the improvements in place. Similarly, the mean relative difference between SMAC and 6S reflectance values decreases by a mean of 13, 14.5 and 8.5% for Channels 1, 2 and 3 respectively. Furthermore, the processing speed of the SMAC is found to remain largely unaffected, with only a small increase in the time taken to process a full SEVIRI scene. Whilst the method described within this paper is only applicable to SEVIRI data, a similar approach can be applied to other data sources than SEVIRI, and should result in a similar accuracy improvement no matter which instrument supplies the original data. 相似文献

Much effort has been made in recent years to improve the spectral and spatial resolution of satellite sensors to develop improved vegetation indices reflecting surface conditions. In this study satellite vegetation indices from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) and the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) are evaluated against two years of in situ measurements of vegetation indices in Senegal. The in situ measurements are obtained using four masts equipped with self‐registrating multispectral radiometers designed for the same wavelengths as the satellite sensor channels. In situ measurements of the MODIS Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and AVHRR NDVI are equally sensitive to vegetation; however, the MODIS NDVI is consistently higher than the AVHRR NDVI. The MODIS Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI) proved more sensitive to dense vegetation than both AVHRR NDVI and MODIS NDVI. EVI and NDVI based on the MODIS 16‐day constrained view angle maximum value composite (CV‐MVC) product captured the seasonal dynamics of the field observations satisfactorily but a standard 16‐day MVC product estimated from the daily MODIS surface reflectance data without view angle constraints yielded higher correlations between the satellite indices and field measurements (R 2 values ranging from 0.74 to 0.98). The standard MVC regressions furthermore approach a 1?:?1 line with in situ measured values compared to the CV‐MVC regressions. The 16‐day MVC AVHRR data did not satisfactorily reflect the variation in the in situ data. Seasonal variation in the in situ measurements is captured reasonably with R 2 values of 0.75 in 2001 and 0.64 in 2002, but the dynamic range of the AVHRR satellite data is very low—about a third to a half of the values from in situ measurements. Consequently the in situ vegetation indices were emulated much better by the MODIS indices than by the AVHRR NDVI. 相似文献

Metal ions and their interaction with the amyloid beta (Aβ) peptide might be key elements in the development of Alzheimer's disease. In this work the effect of CuII on the aggregation of Aβ is explored on a timescale from milliseconds to days, both at physiological pH and under mildly acidic conditions, by using stopped‐flow kinetic measurements (fluorescence and light‐scattering), 1H NMR relaxation and ThT fluorescence. A minimal reaction model that relates the initial CuII binding and Aβ folding with downstream aggregation is presented. We demonstrate that a highly aggregation prone Aβ ? CuII species is formed on the sub‐second timescale at mildly acidic pH. This observation might be central to the molecular origin of the known detrimental effect of acidosis in Alzheimer's disease. 相似文献

Xenobiotic organic compounds (XOCs) in wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) effluents might cause toxic effects in ecosystems. Several investigations have emphasized biodegradation as an important removal mechanism to reduce pollution with XOCs from WWTP effluents. The aim of the study was to design a screening tool to identify and select hazardous model pollutants for the further investigation of biodegradation in WWTPs. The screening tool consists of three criteria: The XOC is present in WWTP effluents, the XOC constitutes an intolerable risk in drinking water or the environment, and the XOC is expected to be biodegradable in WWTPs. The screening tool was tested on bisphenol A (BPA), carbamazepine (CBZ), di(2ethylhexyl)-phthalate (DEHP), 17beta-estradiol (E2), estrone (E1), 17alpha-ethinyloetradiol (EE2), ibuprofen, naproxen, nonylphenol (NP), and octylphenol (OP). BPA, DEHP, E2, E1, EE2, and NP passed all criteria in the screening tool and were selected as model pollutants. OP did not pass the filter and was rejected as model pollutant. CBZ, ibuprofen, and naproxen were not finally evaluated due to insufficient data. 相似文献

The n-3 fatty acids (FA) from marine sources are known to exert antiinflammatory effects on monocyte function. There is still
controversy whether n-3 FA may increase the susceptibility to infections. The present study was designed to assess the effect
of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHa) on monocyte phagocytosis and respiratory burst activity. Fifty-eight
healthy men were randomized to take a daily supplement of 3.8 g highly purified EPA (n=20), 3.6 g DHA (n=19), or corn oil (n=19) for 7 wk. Mononuclear leukocytes were collected, isolated, and cryopreserved prior to and after dietary supplementation.
Paired samples were analyzed in the presence of autologous serum in a crossover design. Monocyte phagocytosis and respiratory
burst activity were measured by flow cytometry after ingestion of Escherichia coli. Monocytes retained their phagocytic ability and respiratory burst activity after supplementation. No reduction in internalization
of bacteria was registered. Dietary n-3 FA and particularly EPA improved bacterial adherence to the monocyte surface. In the
crossover experiments, there was an adverse effect of serum enriched with n-3 FA on bacterial adherence. We conclude that
monocytes retain their phagocytic potential after supplementation with purified EPA and DHA. 相似文献

Heritable influences on cognitive functioning were investigated in a sample of 403 pairs of like-sex Danish twins aged 75 years and older. Twins completed the Mini-Mental State Examination and 3 other cognitive tests. Genetic factors accounted for 26–54% of the variance on these measures, with the balance being due to environmental factors that create differences rather than similarities among reared-together relatives. Deleting twins with severe cognitive impairment had little effect on the results, indicating that the heritability of cognitive functioning was not due entirely to genes affecting dementia. Neither age nor gender moderated twin similarity, and differential social contact could not account for correlation differences between monozygotic and dizygotic twins. These results replicate G. E. Societal pressure to limit the use of antibiotics in livestock production systems, including dairy cattle systems, is consistently increasing. To motivate farmers to reduce antibiotic usage, it is important to understand the factors that determine whether a cow will be treated with antibiotics or not. If farmers' usual practices regarding antibiotic treatments are taken into account, they may be motivated to adopt control measures that can facilitate prudent use of antibiotics and are at the same time cost-effective. In this study, we analyzed database recordings of milk yield and somatic cell count from the routine milk recording scheme, clinical registrations of mastitis and PCR results, and cow factors such as days in milk and parity in relation to antibiotic treatments for 518 dairy herds in Denmark. Farm-wise logistic regressions were used to predict antimicrobial treatment based on these factors. The resulting regression coefficients of 422 herds were further analyzed by principal component analysis and clustering to determine the driving predictors for treatment in different groups of farms. The results showed that determinants that were most important for predicting antibiotic treatments vary from one farm to another. Health indicators such as PCR or somatic cell count were most indicative for treatment on some farms, whereas other groups seemed to depend more on production factors (milk yield) or later culling of the cows. This shows that farmers behave differently and differences can be identified in register data. This information can be considered when developing cost-effective herd-specific control measures of mastitis to promote prudent use of antibiotics in Danish dairy cattle farms. 相似文献

The seismic behavior of asphaltic concrete used in embankment dams subjected earthquake loads has been studied. In order to evaluate the dynamic behavior, an extensive series of monotonic and cyclic tests were carried out on triaxial specimens of asphalt concrete used in hydraulic structures. The MTS-dynamic equipment at the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) was used for this purpose. Temperature and frequency effects on specimen behavior and on specimen degradation have been studied under the cyclic loads in both isotropic and anisotropic initial stress conditions. For investigation of the fatigue behavior, thousands of cyclic loads were imposed on some of the specimens. Moreover, to study any sign of material degradation due to the cyclic loading, the post-cyclic monotonic stress-strain curve was compared with the corresponding curve for specimens that were not first subjected to cyclic loading. Geotechnical parameters to be used in dynamic numerical analysis models are also presented. 相似文献
