A model concept for prediction of sulfide buildup in sewer networks is presented. The model concept is an extension to--and a further development of--the WATS model (Wastewater Aerobic-anaerobic Transformations in Sewers), which has been developed by Hvitved-Jacobsen and co-workers at Aalborg University. In addition to the sulfur cycle, the WATS model simulates changes in dissolved oxygen and carbon fractions of different biodegradability. The sulfur cycle was introduced via six processes: 1. sulfide production taking place in the biofilm covering the permanently wetted sewer walls; 2. biological sulfide oxidation in the permanently wetted biofilm; 3. chemical and biological sulfide oxidation in the water phase; 4. sulfide precipitation with metals present in the wastewater; 5. emission of hydrogen sulfide to the sewer atmosphere and 6. adsorption and oxidation of hydrogen sulfide on the moist sewer walls where concrete corrosion may take place.  相似文献

Heat transfer, friction factor and thermal performance characteristics in a tube equipped with twisted-rings (TRs) are experimentally investigated. The experiments were conducted using TRs with three different width ratios (W/D = 0.05, 0.1 and 0.15) and three pitch ratios of (p/D = 1, 1.5 and 2) for Reynolds numbers ranging from 6000 to 20,000 using air as a test fluid. The typical circular rings (CRs) were also tested for an assessment. The experimental results reveal that most TRs yield lower Nusselt numbers and friction factor than CRs, except at the largest width ratio (W/D = 0.15) and the smallest pitch ratio (p/D = 1.0). In addition, Nusselt number and friction factor increase as width ratio increases and pitch ratio decreases. However, a maximum thermal performance factor is associated by TRs with the smallest width ratio and pitch ratio. The empirical correlations of the heat transfer (Nu) and friction factor (f) are also included in this paper.  相似文献

Abstract

The transparent glasses of CaO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2-ZnO system doped with Sm2O3 was prepared by conventional melt-quenching method. The obtained glasses were heat treated at a suitable temperature (875?°C–920?°C for 2?h) identified by differential thermal analysis (DTA). Phase formation and microstructure of glass-ceramics were characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. The optical transmission spectra were recorded by UV-Vis spectrophotometer in the wavelength range between 350 and 1000?nm. It was found that the increase in heat treatment temperature reduced the transparency of the glass-ceramics. The luminescence properties were identified by fluorescence spectroscopy. The excitation spectra of Sm2O3 doped CaO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2-ZnO glass-ceramic samples are in wavelength range of 550–750?nm and the emission spectra exhibited a strong orange-red luminescence composed of 562, 599 and 654?nm under excited at 402?nm. The results of XRD studies revealed the occurrence of diopside (CaMgSi2O6) and akermanite (Ca2MgSi2O7) phases. The increasing of heat treatment temperature has no effect on the shift of emission spectra.  相似文献

The incorporation method was employed to produce potassium sodium niobate [KNN] (K0.5Na0.5NbO3) glass ceramics from the KNN-SiO2 system. This incorporation method combines a simple mixed-oxide technique for producing KNN powder and a conventional melt-quenching technique to form the resulting glass. KNN was calcined at 800°C and subsequently mixed with SiO2 in the KNN:SiO2 ratio of 75:25 (mol%). The successfully produced optically transparent glass was then subjected to a heat treatment schedule at temperatures ranging from 525°C -575°C for crystallization. All glass ceramics of more than 40% transmittance crystallized into KNN nanocrystals that were rectangular in shape and dispersed well throughout the glass matrix. The crystal size and crystallinity were found to increase with increasing heat treatment temperature, which in turn plays an important role in controlling the properties of the glass ceramics, including physical, optical, and dielectric properties. The transparency of the glass samples decreased with increasing crystal size. The maximum room temperature dielectric constant (ε r ) was as high as 474 at 10 kHz with an acceptable low loss (tanδ) around 0.02 at 10 kHz.  相似文献

Transport of wastewater in sewer networks causes potential problems associated with hydrogen sulfide in regard to odor nuisance, health risk, and microbially induced corrosion. To what extent these problems occur depends not only on the rate of sulfide formation but also on the rate of hydrogen sulfide emission into the sewer atmosphere. To gain understanding of the influence of wastewater constituents on the emission process, a number of batch experiments were conducted on domestic wastewater collected from sewer networks. The emission rate of hydrogen sulfide in the wastewater investigated was found to be approximately 60% of that in de-ionized water in terms of the overall mass-transfer coefficient, resulting in a correction factor (alpha) of 0.6. The alpha factor did not change significantly within the turbulence range studied (Froude numbers of 0.04–0.23). The Henry’s law constant for hydrogen sulfide in wastewater was observed to be close to that in de-ionized water, reflecting a correction factor (beta) of 1.0. By taking these results into account, modeling aspects of hydrogen sulfide emission in sewer networks are presented in this paper.  相似文献

The extent of hydrogen sulfide transfer across the air-water interface plays a major role for odor and corrosion problems in sewer networks. One significant physical factor affecting the air-water transfer process is temperature. This study describes the temperature dependence of air-water transfer of hydrogen sulfide in terms of a temperature correction factor (temperature coefficient). The air-water transfer rate was found to increase with increasing temperature at a constant turbulence level. A mathematical expression for the transfer rate versus temperature was addressed following the Arrhenius equation. The temperature coefficient for air-water transfer of hydrogen sulfide was observed under acidic and neutral conditions (pH 4.5, 6.5, and 7.0), i.e., under conditions where only the molecular form of hydrogen sulfide was present (pH 4.5) and under conditions where both the molecular form and the ionized form existed (pH 6.5 and 7.0). The effect of temperature on air-water transfer of hydrogen sulfide decreased with increasing pH. The temperature coefficients found in this study were within the range reported in the literature for other substances transferring across the air-water interface such as oxygen, ozone, and krypton-85.  相似文献

This study investigated the associations between relative telomere length (RTL) and resting metabolic rate (RMR), resting fat oxidation (RFO), and aerobic capacity and whether oxidative stress and inflammation are the underlying mechanisms in sedentary women. We also aimed to determine whether the correlations depend on age and obesity. Sixty-eight normal weight and 66 obese women participated in this study. After adjustment for age, energy expenditure, energy intake, and education level, the RTL of all participants was negatively correlated with absolute RMR (RMRAB) and serum high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) concentration, and positively correlated with maximum oxygen consumption (V˙O2max) (all p < 0.05). After additional adjustment for adiposity indices and fat-free mass (FFM), RTL was positively correlated with plasma vitamin C concentration (p < 0.05). Furthermore, after adjustment for fasting blood glucose concentration, RTL was negatively correlated with age and positively correlated with V˙O2max (mL/kg FFM/min). We found that normal weight women had longer RTL than obese women (p < 0.001). We suggest that RTL is negatively correlated with RMRAB and positively correlated with aerobic capacity, possibly via antioxidant and anti-inflammatory mechanisms. Furthermore, age and obesity influenced the associations. We provide useful information for the management of promotion strategies for health-related physical fitness in women.  相似文献

Wherever transport of anaerobic wastewater occurs, potential problems associated with hydrogen sulfide in relation to odor nuisance, health risk and corrosion exist. Improved understanding of prediction of hydrogen sulfide emission into the sewer atmosphere is needed for better evaluation of such problems in sewer networks. A two-phase model for emission of hydrogen sulfide along stretches of gravity sewers is presented to estimate the occurrence of both sulfide in the water phase and hydrogen sulfide in the sewer atmosphere. The model takes into account air-water mass transfer of hydrogen sulfide and interactions with other processes in the sulfur cycle. Various emission scenarios are simulated to illustrate the release characteristics of hydrogen sulfide.  相似文献
