Bone mass measurements are essential in the diagnosis of osteoporosis, the monitoring of its progression, and the evaluation of therapeutical responses. Among various methods of bone mass measurements, single- and dual-X-ray absorptiometry, SXA and DXA, have shown excellent fundamental performance. In this paper, the principles of SXA and DXA; i.e., factors of fundamental performance, such as precision, data-acquisition, and radiation dose, the practice of DXA, recent advances in DXA, such as the lateral spine scan, the measurement of body composition, application to BMD measurement of the bones of small animals and at sites of metal implants, morphometry of the spine, and geometrical measurement in the proxial femur, and clinical applications to osteoporosis were particularly reviewed. 相似文献

Although the electroless plating method is known to be an effective method for obtaining fine wiring in particular, 1 mol hydrogen gas is generated during 1 mol Cu deposition, and voids are generated in the wiring when electroless Cu plating is applied to fine wiring. To avoid the hydrogen evolution, the possibility of performing electroless Cu plating was confirmed using an inexpensive FeII compound as a reducing agent. The bath contains CuSO4, FeSO4, NaCl, ethylenediamine, sodium citrate, polyethylene glycol (PEG), and 2,2′-bipyridine. Under optimal conditions, over 1.7 μm of copper deposit with a smooth surface was obtained after 3 h of plating, which did not contain iron as an impurity. The electrical resistivity of the copper film is about 3-4 μΩ cm corresponding to that of electroplated copper films. 相似文献

Persistent acid production by Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus during refrigerated storage is a major cause of reduced viability of probiotic strains such as Bifidobacterium breve in yoghurt. It was established that H+ -ATPase-defective mutants of lactic acid bacteria have reduced growth and metabolism in low pH environments. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate inhibition of post-acidification and maintenance of B. breve viability in yoghurt fermented by L. delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus mutants with reduced membrane-bound H+ -ATPase activity during refrigerated storage. Spontaneous neomycin mutants of L. delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus that had a significantly (P < or = 0.05) reduced H+ -ATPase activity were successfully isolated. Yoghurt fermented using L. delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus SBT0164 No. 55-1 (mutant) starter culture had markedly reduced post-acidification and maintained viability (> or = 10(8) CFU/ml) of both Bifidobacteruim breve JCM 1192(T) and Bifidobacteruim breve JCM 7017 during storage at 10 degrees C for 21 days. These results clearly showed that yoghurt fermented by mutants of L. delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus with reduced membrane-bound H+ -ATPase activity has reduced post-acidification that prolongs viability of B. breve in yoghurt during refrigerated storage. 相似文献

Mott-type VO2 oxide nanobelts are demonstrated to be effective hydrogen gas sensors at room temperature. These nanobelts, synthesized by hydrothermal process and exhibiting the VO2 (A) crystallographic phase, display room temperature H2 sensitivity as low as 0.17 ppm. The nanobelts (ultralong belt-like) nanostructures could be an ideal system for fully understanding dimensionally confined transport phenomena in functional oxides and for building functional devices based on individual nanobelts. 相似文献

The effects of difructose anhydride III (di-D-fructofuranose-1,2':2,3'-dianhydride; DFA III) administration (3% DFA III for 4 weeks) on rat intestinal microbiota were examined using denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE). According to DGGE profiles, the number of bacteria related to Bacteroides acidofaciens and uncultured bacteria within the Clostridium lituseburense group decreased, while that of bacteria related to Bacteroides vulgatus, Bacteroides uniformis and Ruminococcus productus increased in DFA III-fed rat cecum. In the cecal contents of DFA III-fed rats, a lowering of pH and an increase in short chain fatty acids (SCFAs), especially acetic acid, were observed. The DFA III-assimilating bacterium, Ruminococcus sp. M-1, was isolated from the cecal contents of DFA III-fed rats. The strain had 98% similarity with R. productus ATCC 27340T (L76595), and mainly produced acetic acid. These results confirmed that the bacteria harmful to host health were not increased by DFA III administration. Moreover, DFA III stimulated the growth of Ruminococcus sp. M-1 producing acetic acid, which may alter the intestinal microbiota towards a healthier composition. It is expected that DFA III would be a new candidate as a prebiotic. 相似文献

Structural and optical studies have been performed on GaN, InGaN layers, In0.08Ga0.92N/GaN heterostructures, In0.08Ga0.92N/In0.02Ga0.98N single and multiquantum wells grown by metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) and GaN by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) on GaN templates by using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and photoluminescence (PL). The layers are found to be high quality with low defect density, on the order of 106 cm?2, which are mainly related to the threading dislocations originating/propagating from the hydride vapor phase epitaxy (HVPE) GaN template. The interface between the layers and substrate could not be detected by TEM and was therefore deemed to be of high quality. Convergent beam electron diffraction studies revealed that the polarity of the films is Ga-polarity, which is the same as that of the substrate. A dual structure with different compositions and having thicknesses of 10 and 25 nm was observed in InGaN layers grown on GaN in one of the heterostructure samples. The full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the XRD rocking curves of (0 0 0 2) for heterostructures and quantum wells were found to be in the range of 15–28 arcmin for a slit width of 2 mm. PL studies on GaN layers grown by MBE and MOCVD on GaN templates are reasonably similar. The PL spectra from all the MBE and MOCVD epilayers and the substrate contain a plethora of sharp peaks related to excitonic transitions. With the presence of donor-bound exciton peaks and their associated two-electron satellites, the binding energies of two distinct shallow donors (28.8 and 32.6 meV), which are attributed to Si and O, respectively, were determined. PL measurements revealed that the FWHM of the main donor bound exciton peak increased from 0.6 to 2.9 meV but no change in peak position (3.472 eV) was observed in GaN when doping with Si (5×1017 cm?3). However, the intensities of the yellow band and the shallow donor–acceptor pair band increased 10 times as compared to that in the undoped GaN samples. In the case of InGaN/GaN heterostructures, a similar trend was observed when compared to the doped samples. In the multiquantum well In0.08Ga0.92N/In0.02Ga0.98N heterostructures, the activation energy of the exciton emission, found to be 18 meV, was the lowest in the samples studied. The peak at 3.02 eV related to the InGaN was strongly pronounced in the In0.08Ga0.92N/In0.02Ga0.98N multiquantum well structure. In the In0.08Ga0.92N/In0.02Ga0.98N quantum well structures, the change in peak position with variation of temperature from 15 to 300 K in PL spectra is “S”-shaped. We have proposed an illumination-collection-type scanning near-field Raman spectroscopy (SNRS) with a completely gold metal-inside-coated (MIC) pyramidal probe without an optical aperture in order to detect the Raman spectra of fine Si devices for local stress measurements. The gold MIC pyramidal probe has been studied to act as a plasmon resonance near-field optical probe with high power using a finite differential time domain (FDTD) simulation and the prototyped SNRS. In the simulation, the propagated optical power can be made available for SNRS. In the experiments, it is clear that the prototyped SNRS enhanced the Si Raman peak signal by plasmon resonance and could measure the Si Raman peak shift by line scanning the Si gate region and the Si active layer. Furthermore, compressive and tensile stresses localized around the Si gate were demonstrated by the Si Raman peak shift with a resolution of about 10 nm. It is clarified that the proposed SNRS has the possibility of detecting the Raman spectra of a local area. 相似文献

The sustained growth of data traffic volume calls for an introduction of an efficient and scalable transport platform for links of 100 Gb/s and beyond in the future optical network. In this article, after briefly reviewing the existing major technology options, we propose a novel, spectrum- efficient, and scalable optical transport network architecture called SLICE. The SLICE architecture enables sub-wavelength, superwavelength, and multiple-rate data traffic accommodation in a highly spectrum-efficient manner, thereby providing a fractional bandwidth service. Dynamic bandwidth variation of elastic optical paths provides network operators with new business opportunities offering cost-effective and highly available connectivity services through time-dependent bandwidth sharing, energy-efficient network operation, and highly survivable restoration with bandwidth squeezing. We also discuss an optical orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing-based flexible-rate transponder and a bandwidth-variable wavelength cross-connect as the enabling technologies of SLICE concept. To increase the hyaluronic acid (HA) yield from Streptococcus thermophilus YIT 2084, fermentation conditions (pH, temperature, agitation, aeration) were optimized in milk-based medium, and the effects of supplemental soybean peptides, which have different molecular weight distributions, were determined. HA production was enhanced to approximately 100 mg/l at pH 6.8 and 33–40 °C. Agitation speed and aeration rate slightly affected HA production. Soybean peptides including those of high molecular weight (approximately 27 to 130 kDa) further increased HA production to 208 mg/l under the optimal condition (pH 6.8, 35 °C, 100 rpm), which was 20-fold greater than non-optimal condition. HA production was no longer related to the specific growth rate. The HA produced under the optimal condition included a large amount of high-molecular-weight fraction of 100 to 2000 kDa, compared with under the basal condition without optimization. 相似文献
