Clegg and Spencer's (2007) model of job design synthesizes and extends recent conceptions of the job design process by incorporating variables such as knowledge, motivation, and trust into a cyclical and dynamic system. The objective of this study was to examine the sequential organization of variables that comprise the model, as a basis from which to justify further investigations of the model's dynamic properties. Data were collected via questionnaires from 432 participants in two work organizations. Results obtained from structural equation modeling are broadly supportive of the proposed relationships between the variables. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of operating parameters such as liquid flow rate, gas inlet pressure, and capillary diameter as well as the influence of the physical properties of the liquid, in particular viscosity, on the generation of monodisperse microbubbles in a circular cross section T-junction device. Aqueous glycerol solutions with viscosities ranging from 1- to 100 mPa s were used in the experiments. The bubble diameter generated was studied for systematically varied combinations of gas inlet pressure, liquid flow rate, and liquid viscosity with a fixed capillary inner diameter of 150 μm for the liquid and gas inlet channels as well as the outlet channel. In addition, the effect of channel geometry on bubble size was studied using capillaries with inner diameters of first 100 and then 200 μm. In all the experiments the distance between the coaxial capillaries at the junction was set to be 200 μm. All the microbubbles produced in this study were highly monodisperse (polydispersity index <1 %) and it was found, as expected, that bubble formation and size were influenced by the ratio of liquid to gas flow rate, capillary size, and liquid viscosity. The experimental data were then compared with empirical scaling laws derived for rectangular cross-section junctions. In contrast with these previous studies, which have found bubble size to be dependent on either the flow rate ratio (the squeezing regime) or capillary number (the dripping regime), in this experimental study bubble size was found to depend on both capillary number and flow ratio. 相似文献

The combustion of naphthalene has been found to yield gram-scale quantities of carbon onions that are free of impurities and furthermore without the use of catalysts. X-ray diffraction (XRD) indicates that the interlayer spacing between concentric shells of the carbon onions is not uniform across the particle; rather it decreases from a graphite-like 0.34 nm and approaches a diamond-like 0.29 nm interlayer spacing towards the inner layers. The dispersion in the interlayer spacing is believed to result from differing external pressures exerted on the individual nanometer-sized graphitic membranes during formation of the onions. Electron microscopy techniques such as high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and scanning electron microscopy demonstrate the extensive formation of carbon onions. The HRTEM indicates that the onions consist of 50–54 shells, found to be in good agreement with the XRD data. 相似文献

Uniform spherical chitosan particles of size <10 μm in diameter are important in drug delivery applications due to their excellent
biocompability and biodegradability. A high concentration of chitosan in the particles can help to control the release of
drugs and methods for processing high viscosity chitosan solutions are therefore required. In principle, any type of polymer,
whether hydrophobic or hydrophilic, can be electrosprayed to obtain monodisperse particles of diameter <10 μm. In practice,
however, electrospraying of biopolymers having viscosities of >100 mPa s results in particles >10 μm diameter. In this study,
by reducing surface tension of a high viscosity chitosan suspension, it was found that smaller diameter particles could be
prepared. Chitosan solutions were electrosprayed in the stable cone-jet mode to systematically study the relationship between
particle diameter, viscosity and surface tension. Increasing viscosity resulted in larger diameter particles with a broad
size distribution, but decreasing surface tension had the opposite effect. Results show that a chitosan solution having a
viscosity of ~80 mPa s can be used to prepare chitosan particles of diameter ~2.5 μm which on drying reduced to particles

Accurate creep parameters are essential for the prediction and assessment of fuel cladding behaviour under reactor accident conditions. To resolve uncertainties in the limited data available for beta-phase Zircaloy cladding, an extensive programme of isothermal stress rupture tests has been undertaken for Zircaloy-2 tubes in a non-oxidizing environment at temperatures from 1000 to 1500°C. The secondary creep parameters are calculated from an analysis of the strain histories obtained from each test using a novel photo-electronic technique for the continuous monitoring of tube deformation. The resulting creep equation is compared with recent rupture life data for Zircaloy tubes. The analysis also identifies an anomalous primary stage which significantly retards the early stage of deformation for low stress tests at 1200°C and above and which is found to be extremely sensitive to prior annealing. The influence of this primary component on predictions of cladding behaviour is assessed. 相似文献

The nonlinear response of gas bubbles to acoustic excitation is an important phenomenon in both the biomedical and engineering sciences. In medical ultrasound imaging, for example, microbubbles are used as contrast agents on account of their ability to scatter ultrasound nonlinearly. Increasing the degree of nonlinearity, however, normally requires an increase in the amplitude of excitation, which may also result in violent behaviour such as inertial cavitation and bubble fragmentation. These effects may be highly undesirable, particularly in biomedical applications, and the aim of this work was to investigate alternative means of enhancing nonlinear behaviour. In this preliminary report, it is shown through theoretical simulation and experimental verification that depositing nanoparticles on the surface of a bubble increases the nonlinear character of its response significantly at low excitation amplitudes. This is due to the fact that close packing of the nanoparticles restricts bubble compression. 相似文献

Electrohydrodynamic (EHD) processing has attracted substantial interest in the technological and pharmaceutical sectors in recent years. Given the complexity of the process, exploring new ideas for EHD electrospraying and electrospinning delivery is a challenge. In this article, the design, construction and testing of a portable handheld EHD multi-needle device are described to produce multifunctional particles and fibers. Solid and encapsulated polymer particles and fibers were generated in order to study the performance of the device. The intrinsic properties of the feed solution/suspension and the processing conditions were adjusted to ensure robustness of the process and give uniform and reproducible products, with diameters ranging from the sub-micrometer scale to a few micrometers. These products have a broad range of applications in many advanced industrial sectors e.g. drug delivery systems, wound dressing patches, low calorie food products and cosmetics. 相似文献

The authors used a longitudinal design to investigate the relation between leadership behavior and the well-being of subordinates. Well-being is conceptualized as people's feelings about themselves and the settings in which they live and work. Staff members (N = 562) of 2 Community Trusts participated 4 times in a 14-month period. Five models were formulated to answer 2 questions: What is the most likely direction of the relation between leadership and well-being, and what is the time frame of this relation? The model with the best fit suggested that leadership behavior and subordinate responses are linked in a feedback loop. Leadership behavior at Time 1 influenced leadership behavior at Time 4. Subordinate well-being at Time 2 synchronously influenced leadership behavior at Time 2. Leadership behavior at Time 4 synchronously influenced subordinate well-being at Time 4. Abstract-Modified Rayleigh-Plesset models are commonly used to characterize the acoustic response of microbubbles under ultrasound exposure. In most instances these models have been parameterized through acoustic measurements taken from bulk suspensions of microbubbles. The aim of this study was to parameterize the Hoff model for the commercial contrast agent SonoVue using optically observed oscillations from individual microbubbles recorded with a high-speed camera. The shell elasticity model term was tuned to fit simulation data to the measured oscillations while the shell viscosity parameter was held constant at 1 Pa??s. The results demonstrate a limited ability of the model to predict the microbubble behavior. The shell elasticity parameter was found to vary proportionally between 10 and 80 MPa with the initial microbubble diameter, implying the viscoelastic shell terms are not a constant property of the shell material. Further analysis using a moving window optimization to probe the microbubble responses suggests that the elasticity of the shell can increase by up to 50% over the course of insonation, particularly for microbubbles oscillating nearer to their resonant frequency. Microbubble oscillations were modeled more successfully by incorporating a varying elasticity term into the model. 相似文献

In the present study, we modeled 2 sources of safety support (perceived organizational support for safety and perceived coworker support for safety) as predictors of employee safety voice, that is, speaking out in an attempt to change unsafe working conditions. Drawing on social exchange and social impact theories, we hypothesized and tested a mediated model predicting employee safety voice using a cross-sectional survey of urban bus drivers (n = 213) in the United Kingdom. Hierarchical regression analysis showed that perceived coworker support for safety fully mediated the relationship between perceived organizational support for safety and employee safety voice. This study adds to the employee voice literature by evaluating the important role that coworkers can play in encouraging others to speak out about safety issues.
