Three sorbents were compared in order to determine their potential for oil spill cleanup. Polypropylene nonwoven web, rice hull, and bagasse with two different particle sizes were evaluated in terms of oil sorption capacities and oil recovery efficiencies. Polypropylene can sorb almost 7 to 9 times its weight from different oils. Bagasse, 18 to 45 mesh size, follows polypropylene as the second sorbent in oil spill cleanup. Bagasse, 14 to 18 mesh size, and rice hull have comparable oil sorption capacities, which are lower than those of the two former sorbents. It was found that oil viscosity plays an important role in oil sorption by sorbents. All adsorbents used in this work could remove the oil from the surface of the water preferentially.  相似文献

A new fringe tracker based on photon-counting detectors and real-time image processing has been implemented on the Grand Interféromètre à 2 Télescopes at the Observatoire de la Cote d'Azur. Fringe visibilities have been recorded on P Cygni and other stars across the Hαemission line with optical path differences stabilized to between 4 and 7 μm rms (1% of the coherence length). We present our initial results and describe the principle, implementation, and performance of the fringe tracker.  相似文献

Malignant melanoma is a lethal skin cancer containing melanoma-initiating cells (MIC) implicated in tumorigenesis, invasion, and drug resistance, and is characterized by the elevated expression of stem cell markers, including CD133. The siRNA knockdown of CD133 enhances apoptosis induced by the MEK inhibitor trametinib in melanoma cells. This study investigates the underlying mechanisms of CD133’s anti-apoptotic activity in patient-derived BAKP and POT cells, harboring difficult-to-treat NRASQ61K and NRASQ61R drivers, after CRISPR-Cas9 CD133 knockout or Dox-inducible expression of CD133. MACS-sorted CD133(+) BAKP cells were conditionally reprogrammed to derive BAKR cells with sustained CD133 expression and MIC features. Compared to BAKP, CD133(+) BAKR exhibit increased cell survival and reduced apoptosis in response to trametinib or the chemotherapeutic dacarbazine (DTIC). CRISPR-Cas9-mediated CD133 knockout in BAKR cells (BAKR-KO) re-sensitized cells to trametinib. CD133 knockout in BAKP and POT cells increased trametinib-induced apoptosis by reducing anti-apoptotic BCL-xL, p-AKT, and p-BAD and increasing pro-apoptotic BAX. Conversely, Dox-induced CD133 expression diminished apoptosis in both trametinib-treated cell lines, coincident with elevated p-AKT, p-BAD, BCL-2, and BCL-xL and decreased activation of BAX and caspases-3 and -9. AKT1/2 siRNA knockdown or inhibition of BCL-2 family members with navitoclax (ABT-263) in BAKP-KO cells further enhanced caspase-mediated apoptotic PARP cleavage. CD133 may therefore activate a survival pathway where (1) increased AKT phosphorylation and activation induces (2) BAD phosphorylation and inactivation, (3) decreases BAX activation, and (4) reduces caspases-3 and -9 activity and caspase-mediated PARP cleavage, leading to apoptosis suppression and drug resistance in melanoma. Targeting nodes of the CD133, AKT, or BCL-2 survival pathways with trametinib highlights the potential for combination therapies for NRAS-mutant melanoma stem cells for the development of more effective treatments for patients with high-risk melanoma.  相似文献

Epoxy-amine adduct was prepared by reaction between DGEBA and 1,1-iminodi-2-propanol. The kinetic of the reaction was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and a model-free approach. The epoxy-amine adducts were prepared with various molar ratios of amine functionalities. Waterborne dispersions of these resins have been prepared by neutralization of amine functionalities in the epoxy-amine adducts. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and DSC were also used to characterize the prepared epoxy-amine adducts. The stability behavior of the neutralized epoxy-amine adducts has been studied at 25 °C in aqueous solution of acetic acid. In each case, the experimental stability ratios (W) versus electrolyte concentration plots were fitted using the Derjaguin–Landau–Verwey–Overbeek (DLVO) theory and modified Fuch's model. The resulted values of diffuse potentials and Hamaker constants were obtained for the aqueous dispersions of the epoxy-amine adducts. According to the resulted Hamaker values, the applicability of the DLVO theory to the colloidal particles of epoxy amine adducts was investigated. The cathodic electrodeposition behavior of the prepared dispersions were also investigated. It was found that the samples with lower degree of neutralization result in a more efficient film deposition followed by higher dry film thickness although they show lower stability in the electrodeposition bath.  相似文献

Compared to some of the alternative fuel candidates such as methane, methanol and Fischer–Tropsch fuels, dimethyl ether (DME) seems to be a superior candidate for high-quality diesel fuel in near future. The direct synthesis of DME from syngas would be more economical and beneficial in comparison with the indirect process via methanol synthesis. Multifunctional auto-thermal reactors are novel concepts in process intensification. A promising field of applications for these concepts could be the coupling of endothermic and exothermic reactions in heat exchanger reactors. Consequently, in this study, a double integrated reactor for DME synthesis (by direct synthesis from syngas) and hydrogen production (by the cyclohexane dehydrogenation) is modelled based on the heat exchanger reactors concept and a steady-state heterogeneous one-dimensional mathematical model is developed. The corresponding results are compared with the available data for a pipe-shell fixed bed reactor for direct DME synthesis which is operating at the same feed conditions. In this novel configuration, DME production increases about 600 Ton/year. Also, the effects of some operational parameters such as feed flow rates and the inlet temperatures of exothermic and endothermic sections on reactor behaviour are investigated. The performance of the reactor needs to be proven experimentally and tested over a range of parameters under practical operating conditions.  相似文献

This paper introduces a new stochastic global optimization method targeting protein-protein docking problems, an important class of problems in computational structural biology. The method is based on finding general convex quadratic underestimators to the binding energy function that is funnel-like. Finding the optimum underestimator requires solving a semidefinite programming problem, hence the name semidefinite programming-based underestimation (SDU). The underestimator is used to bias sampling in the search region. It is established that under appropriate conditions SDU locates the global energy minimum with probability approaching one as the sample size grows. A detailed comparison of SDU with a related method of convex global underestimator (CGU), and computational results for protein-protein docking problems are provided  相似文献

This paper describes the main results of project aimed at developing a new cavability assessment criterion for top-coal, and improving the overall understanding of the caving mechanism in Longwall Top Coal Caving (LTCC) technology. The research methodology for this study incorporated a combination of analytical, observational and empirical engineering methods. The two major outcomes of the study were an improved understanding of the caving mechanics, and a new cavability assessment system, the Top-Coal Cavability Rating (TCCR). New conceptual models were introduced for better understanding of top coal caving mechanism. The results of the conceptual investigations suggest that six major parameters can influence the cavability of a typical coal seam, i.e. 1—deformation modulus; 2—vertical pre-mining stress; 3—sub-horizontal pre-mining stress; 4—seam thickness; 5—spacing of sub-horizontal joints; and 6—spacing of sub-vertical joints. The applicability of TCCR system was investigated by back analysing the cavability in earlier LTCC practices.  相似文献

Large arrays stacked 3 cm high, consisting of 38 laser bars 1 cm wide, have been operated at 100 W of average power and 4.5% duty cycle (2400 W peak power) with excellent spectral characteristics. Operation consisted of a burst of 10 150 mu s pulses on a 1 ms period, with burst repetition rates of up to 30 Hz.
