This study considers a CO2 feedstock in conventional methane reforming processes and metal oxide lattice oxygen based chemical looping reforming. Lattice oxygen from iron‐titanium composite metal oxide provides the most efficient co‐utilization of CO2 with CH4. A modularization chemical looping strategy is developed to further improve process efficiencies using a thermodynamic rationale. Modularization leverages the ability of two or more reactors operating in parallel to produce a higher quality syngas than a single reactor operating alone while offering a direct solution to scale up of multiple parallel reactor processes. Experiments conducted validate the thermodynamic simulation results. Simulation and experimental results ascertain that a cocurrent moving bed in a modularization system can operate under CO2 neutral or negative conditions. The results for a modularization process system for 7950 m3 per day (50,000 barrels per day) of liquid fuel indicate a ~23% reduction of natural gas usage over baseline‐case. © 2017 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 63: 3343–3360, 2017  相似文献

Eight hundred-base sequencing in a microfabricated electrophoretic device   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
The human genome will be sequenced using capillary array electrophoresis technology. Although currently achieving only 550 base reads per run, capillary arrays have increased the efficiency and lowered the cost of sequencing by eliminating gel plate preparation, reducing sample volumes, and offering automation and speed. However, much higher throughput and greater cost reductions are needed. The next major advancement in sequencing technology is expected from the development of arrays of microfabricated channels in a plate or "chip" format. For de novo sequencing, the practical utility of the microdevice approach has been limited by device length to a read of 500-600 bases per run. We demonstrate a significant milestone for a microfabricated device by obtaining an average read length of 800 bases in 80 min (98% accuracy) for either M13 standards or DNA sequencing samples from the Whitehead Institute Center for Genomic Research (WICGR) production line. This result is achieved in 40-cm-long channels using a new class of large-scale microfabricated devices. Both microfabrication of extended structures and achievement of long reads are essential steps toward a 384-lane very-large-scale microfluidic (VLSMF) system for ultrahigh-throughput DNA sequencing analysis, currently under construction in our laboratory.  相似文献

Models of human visual detection have been successfully used in computer-generated noise. For these backgrounds, which are generally statistically stationary, model performance can be readily calculated by computing the index of detectability d' from the noise power spectrum, the signal profile, and the model template. However, model observers are ultimately needed in more real backgrounds, which may be statistically non-stationary. We investigated different methods to calculate figures of merit for model observers in real backgrounds based on different assumptions about image stationarity. We computed performance of the nonpre-whitening matched-filter observer with an eye filter on mammography and coronary angiography for an additive or a multiplicative signal. Performance was measured either by applying the model template to the images or by computing closed-form expressions with various assumptions about image stationarity. Results show first that the structured backgrounds investigated cannot be considered stationary. Second, traditional closed-form expressions of detectability calculated from the noise power spectra with the assumption of background stationarity lead to erroneous estimates of model performance. Third, the most accurate way of measuring model performances is by directly applying the model template on the images or by computing a closed-form expression that does not assume image stationarity.  相似文献

In a recent paper [J. Opt. Soc. Am. A 17, 206 (2000)], a modified detectability index, d'r, was proposed to accommodate correlations between internal responses in multiple-alternative forced-choice (MAFC) experiments. The derivation given in that work pertained only to two-alternative forced choice, although it was shown empirically that the result held for general MAFC tasks when the correlation between responses is constant. Here we present a rigorous derivation that shows that the d'r result generalizes to MAFC tasks in this case.  相似文献

A laboratory-scale vertical tower steam pasteurization unit was evaluated to determine the antimicrobial effectiveness of different exposure times (0, 3, 6, 12, and 15 s) and steam chamber temperatures (82.2, 87.8, 93.3, and 98.9 degrees C) against pathogens (Escherichia coli O157:H7, Salmonella Typhimurium, and Listeria innocua) inoculated onto prerigor beef tissue. Samples were collected and microbiologically analyzed immediately before and after steam treatment to quantify the effectiveness of each time-temperature combination. The 0-s exposure at all chamber temperatures (cold water spray only, no steam treatment) was the experimental control and provided < or = 0.3 log CFU/cm2 reductions. Chamber temperatures of 82.2 and 87.8 degrees C were ineffective (P > 0.05) at all exposure times. At 93.3 degrees C, significant reductions (> 1.0 log CFU/cm2) were observed at exposure times of > or = 6 s, with 15 s providing approximately 1 log cycle greater reductions than 12 s of exposure. The 98.9 degrees C treatment was consistently the most effective, with exposure times of > or = 9 s resulting in >3.5 log CFU/cm2 reductions for all pathogens.  相似文献

Better understanding of the distribution of elastic and plastic strains in deformed polycrystalline, multiphase materials is important for structural engineering. The deformation response depends upon the interaction of grains of different orientations, and the anisotropy associated with each phase. Strain partitioning and tensile-compressive hardening asymmetry arises due to mismatches in modulus and ductility between grains and phases in alloys such as Ti-6Al-4V that displays both strong anisotropy within one phase and significant differences of properties between phases. Simple four-point bent beam samples were studied using the newly available energy-dispersive X-ray diffraction setup at the high energy white-beam synchrotron beamline I12 (JEEP) at Diamond Light Source. Diffraction patterns from the bent polycrystalline Ti6Al4V samples were collected using the new 23-cell “horseshoe” detector and interpreted using Pawley refinement to extract unit cell parameters, thus allowing elastic strain to be determined. The tensile-compressive hardening asymmetry was quantified for the grains oriented with the basal plane perpendicular to the loading direction. Initial evaluation of the performance of the new instrument is reported.  相似文献

Long-term ambient concentrations of inhalable particles less than 10 microm in diameter (PM10) (1973- 1992) and other air pollutants-total suspended sulfates, sulfur dioxide, ozone (O3), and nitrogen dioxide-were related to 1977-1992 mortality in a cohort of 6,338 nonsmoking California Seventh-day Adventists. In both sexes, PM10 showed a strong association with mortality for any mention of nonmalignant respiratory disease on the death certificate, adjusting for a wide range of potentially confounding factors, including occupational and indoor sources of air pollutants. The adjusted relative risk (RR) for this cause of death as associated with an interquartile range (IQR) difference of 43 d/yr when PM10 exceeded 100 microg/m3 was 1.18 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.02, 1.36). In males, PM10 showed a strong association with lung cancer deaths-RR for an IQR was 2.38 (95% CI: 1.42, 3.97). Ozone showed an even stronger association with lung cancer mortality for males with an RR of 4.19 (95% CI: 1.81, 9.69) for the IQR difference of 551 h/yr when O3 exceeded 100 parts per billion. Sulfur dioxide showed strong associations with lung cancer mortality for both sexes. Other pollutants showed weak or no association with mortality.  相似文献
