The mechanical and thermal properties of highly oriented polyethylene films containing shish kebab type morphology are studied. At low deformations (strain<10%) strong work hardening is observed. Higher deformations ((40%) give rise to strain softening of the material and a decrease in the Young's modulus of as much as one-third of its initial value. In addition, the high melting component of the material originating from the shish-type crystals vanishes on higher deformation. The deformation processes are discussed from the point of view of a fibre-composite material and structural changes during the deformation are followed by transmission electron microscopy.  相似文献

We have studied the efficiencies of commercially available barrier resins used for food packaging and beverage bottle applications and compared them with resins made using copolymer and blending approaches. The effects of various copolymer related parameters that influence oxygen barrier performance and the underlying mechanisms for these effects in PET‐based copolymers and blends were investigated. Using these approaches, it is possible to make highly effective PET‐based copolymers for gas barrier applications. Blending of PET with phenolic and other organic materials shows equivalent barrier performance in PET copolymers having comonomer levels of <8‐mole %. Reduction in oxygen permeation rates results from the reduction or elimination of short range molecular motion of polyethylene terephthalate molecules. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract

In this article, we presented a method for option pricing problem under regime-switching jump-diffusion models. We have proposed a numerical method for solving a partial integro-differential equation (PIDE) for pricing European option and for solving linear complementarity problem (LCP), to evaluate the price of American options. We use implicit explicit method for time semi discretization, followed by radial basis function based finite difference (RBF-FD) method for spatial discretization to solve PIDE. The proposed method is further extended to solve the LCP by coupling it with operator splitting method. Numerical simulation is done for European and American option to demonstrate efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method.  相似文献

Highly resistive dusts show markedly non‐ohmic properties. The property known as specific resistivity is strongly dependent on the dust layer thickness and on the polarity of the high voltage. The current transport occurs by excess charges of both polarities, which leads to high space charge densities and induces strong electrostatic fields. The theory of electrets provides a consistent explanation of the phenomena observed so far. To investigate the electrical properties, highly resistive dusts were exposed to an electrical field with interfering corona discharges within a tip‐plate arrangement.  相似文献

Morphology–property relationships for simultaneously biaxially stretched films and heatset with fixed dimensions in the temperature range of 100–240°C have been studied. The observed transition in various properties at 180°C can be explained on the basis of microstructural changes caused by competition among several processes, such as crystallization, solid-state thickening, melting, and molecular relaxation as well as by melting and recrystallization. The resulting structures and, thereby, the properties are different in temperature Regime-II (Tg to Tmax) and Regime-III (Tmax to Tm). In Regime-II, the high rate of crystallization compared to the rate of molecular relaxation develops a constrained amorphous phase, whereas the predominant melting and recrystallization process in Regime-III generates the relaxed amorphous phase. The structural reorganization during heat treatment is almost the same for uniaxially oriented film, fibers, and biaxially oriented films prepared under similar processing conditions. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Lamellar stacks of polyethylene and isotactic polystyrene crystals are investigated by dark-field electron microscopy and electron diffraction. The observed effects suggest the presence of screw dislocations, the Burgers vector of which is parallel to the chain direction. The dislocation density in lamellar stacks is greater than 1011 cm?2. The occurrence of the dislocations is attributed primarily to shear forces arising from thermal stresses.  相似文献

A numerical simulation is performed to characterize the mixed convective transport in a three‐dimensional square lid‐driven enclosure with two rotating cylinders. The top wall is moving in the positive x‐direction, and the bottom wall is at a higher fixed temperature compared with all other isothermal walls. Both cylinders are rotating in its own plane about their centroidal axis. On the basis of rotation of both cylinders in clockwise or counter‐clockwise directions, four rotational models are studied. Various controlling parameters considered in the present study are Grashof number (10 3 < Gr < 10 5), rotating speed of the cylinder (5 < ω < 50), and the Reynolds number based on top wall movement is fixed to 100. The effect of cylinder rotation on the heat transfer of bottom wall is reported with the help of streamlines, contour plots of z‐component of vorticity, averaged and local Nusselt number, ratios of secondary flow and drag coefficient. It is observed that the heat transfer at the bottom wall is substantially dependent on the rotational model and rotational speed of the cylinder.  相似文献
