In recent years, numerous foodborne outbreaks due to consumption of berry fruit contaminated by human enteric viruses have been reported. A quantitative model of isothermal vapor phase epitaxy is proposed. It can be applied to both closed and open tube systems. This model enables the prediction of compositional profiles of the layers grown by isothermal vapor phase epitaxy with dependence on the growth parameters and thermodynamical data of the (Hg,Cd)Te system. The dependence of compositional profiles of the ISOVPE layers on temperature and time of deposition, source to substrate spacing, mercury and inert gas pressures are discussed for both solid and liquid sources. Modification of the compositional profiles by the postgrowth annealing has also been studied. The proper choice of growth and annealing parameters makes the optimization of the profiles possible. The calculated profiles are compared with the experimental data and a satisfactory quantitative fit is found in most cases. The possible reasons for remaining discrepancies are discussed.  相似文献

This study aims at exploring the IT governance capabilities that enable organizations to achieve IT‐based synergies. Following existing work on the contextualization of theories and drawing on the resource‐based view of the firm (RBV), we develop an RBV of IT‐based synergies in two steps. First, we adopt existing context‐specific constructs and relationships from prior work on IT governance capabilities, IT relatedness, and synergies to develop a preliminary contextualization of the RBV. Second, to further refine our theoretical framework, we conduct an exploratory field study that includes interviews with 26 CIOs and other IT executives from 21 multibusiness firms. Our findings suggest that IT governance capabilities lead to IT‐based synergies through IT relatedness and business process relatedness. We found regulation‐oriented IT governance capabilities (IT roles and IT processes) to increase IT relatedness, while consensus‐oriented IT governance capabilities (IT groups and relational capabilities) had a positive effect on business process relatedness. Our results suggest that, in isolation, IT and business process relatedness lead to IT cost synergies, while collectively enabling IT‐induced business synergies. Our study is among the first to treat IT relatedness as an endogenous construct and to explicitly integrate business process relatedness into the IT governance domain. Our context‐specific decomposition of IT governance capabilities helps to better explain their links to IT and business process relatedness. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the tension between IT‐based synergies and business‐IT alignment. Decision‐makers are guided in developing IT governance capabilities to achieve IT‐based synergies.  相似文献

A direct, general, and conceptually simple geometrical method for determining lower and upper bounds on the error exponent of any specific family of channel block codes is presented. It is considered that a specific family of codes is characterized by a unique distance distribution exponent. The tight linear lower bound of slope -1 on the code family error exponent represents the code family cutoff rate bound. It is always a minimum of a sum of three functions. The intrinsic asymptotic properties of channel block codes are revealed by analyzing these functions and their relationships. It is shown that the random coding technique for lower-bounding the channel error exponent is a special case of this general method. The requirements that a code family should meet in order to have a positive error exponent and at best attain the channel error exponent are stated in a clear way using the (direct) distance distribution method presented  相似文献

Our objective was to estimate the effectiveness of vaccination and biosecurity on the prevalence of Salmonella spp. in broiler chickens using systematic review and meta-analysis. A comprehensive search of the global primary literature was conducted in: Current Contents (1999–2009), Agricola (1924–2009), MEDLINE (1860–2009), Scopus (1960–2009), CAB (1913–2009), and Centre for Agricultural Bioscience Global Health (1971–2009). The search algorithm was (Salmonell*) AND (chicken* OR chick* OR poultry* OR broiler* OR gallus*). Additional studies were identified by contacting five topic experts and hand-scanning bibliographies of recent review articles and a recently published textbook. Studies were included if they were English language and investigated the effects of vaccination and biosecurity on the prevalence of Salmonella spp. in broiler chickens. All study design types were included. Data extraction and methodological assessment were conducted by two reviewers independently. All meta-analyses were based on random-effects models. For biosecurity, sixteen challenge studies (n = 137 treatment-control comparisons) and one controlled study (n = 2) met the inclusion criteria. Significant heterogeneity (Cochran's Q-statistic, p < 0.001) was observed among biosecurity challenge studies examining hydrogen peroxide or polyhexamethylenebiguanide hydrochloride applied to hatching eggs, making it inappropriate to present a summary effects measure. For vaccination, 19 challenge studies (n = 226) and three controlled studies (n = 10) met the inclusion criteria. Among live Salmonella Typhimurium vaccine challenge studies heterogeneity was not significant (p = 0.138). Vaccination with a live Salmonella Typhimurium reduced the risk of Salmonella cecal colonization in the treated broiler group by 35 out of 1000 broilers when compared to the control group (OR = 0.21; 95% CI = 0.06–0.77) and this effect was significant (p = 0.018). One biosecurity study (n = 2 treatment-control comparisons) and three vaccination studies (n = 10) were conducted in a commercial setting. The two included studies in the vaccination meta-analysis were both conducted at research facilities. The live Salmonella Typhimurium vaccine showed the most promise in reducing the prevalence of Salmonella in broiler ceca. However, the meta-analysis included few studies, and these studies challenged the birds with different serotypes. We recommend that more large-scale randomized, blinded trials be conducted with a live Salmonella Typhimurium vaccine on commercial farms.  相似文献

The characteristics of the prototype of the endcap hadron calorimeter for the CMS facility have been measured. Using the relations between the measured calorimeter response to a radiation source, muons, and pions, it is possible to determine the energy scale of the data-acquisition electronics, which will be used in future experiments along with the calorimeter. The light yield in the calorimeter due to a minimum-ionizing particle was measured. The effect of various factors on the duration of the calorimeter signal is analyzed. The joint operation of the hadron and electromagnetic calorimeters was investigated. The possibility of adjusting the uncompensated system using the data from a scintillation counter inserted between the calorimeters is analyzed. It is shown that the presence of a structural material between the calorimeters will not lead to a noticeable degradation in the energy resolution of the hadron calorimeter.  相似文献

Rheological and mechanical properties (tensile and impact properties) as well as the mechanical profiles of ternary isotactic polypropylene/silica/elastomer (iPP/SiO2/m-EPR metallocene catalyzed ethylene-propylene rubber) composites were investigated and discussed. The effects of two metallocene ethylene-propylene-based elastomers (m-EPR) differing in molecular weight/viscosity and their content on iPP/silica composites with different silica types differing in size (nano- vs. micro-) and surface properties (untreated vs. treated) were investigated. The two m-EPR elastomers were added to iPP/SiO2 96/4 composites as possible impact modifier and compatibilizer at the same time in 5, 10, 15, and 20 vol% per hundred volume parts of composites. The effects of different silica fillers and two m-EPR rubbers were discussed within the context of structure-morphology-mechanical property relationships of these iPP/SiO2/m-EPR composites. Tensile and impact strength properties were mainly influenced by combined competetive effects of stiff filler and tough m-EPR elastomer so sinergistic effect was also observed. The ductility of these composites was affected additionally by spherulite size of the iPP matrix due to the difference in nucleation abilities of silica fillers enabled by prevailing separated morphology observed in iPP/SiO2/m-EPR composites.  相似文献

Polystyrene (PS) nanocomposites with titanate nanotubes and titanate nanoribbons were prepared by an extrusion process at 180°C. Nanocomposites with 1 wt% of nanofillers and pure PS that had also been exposed to the extrusion process were comparatively examined with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron dispersive X‐ray spectrometry (EDS) mapping, solid state proton nuclear magnetic resonance measurements (1H NMR), tensile tests, and shear creep measurements. SEM images and EDS mapping analysis show that titanate nanoribbons homogeneously distribute at a micrometer length‐scale in the PS matrix during the extrusion process. This is not the case for titanate nanotubes, which show a stronger tendency to form clusters. Solid state 1H NMR studies, however, proved that the nanocomposites are inhomogeneous at a nanometric scale where structural components with highly mobile PS molecules coexist with domains of rigid PS molecules. Differences in the 1H spin‐lattice relaxation at and above the glass transition temperature Tg = 373 K suggest that nanofillers affect the thermodynamic properties of nanocomposite domains. Only a slight increase in mechanical tensile properties was observed in the case of the nanocomposite containing 1 wt% of titanate nanoribbons (TiNRs) probably reflecting a weak interaction between the polymer matrix and the nanofiller. Nevertheless, our results prove that the use of functionalized TiNRs may, in combination with the extrusion process, represent a very promising starting point for the preparation of TiNR nanocomposites at the industrial level. Astrocytes, as the most abundant glial cells in the central nervous system, are tightly integrated into neural networks and participate in numerous aspects of brain physiology and pathology. They are the main homeostatic cells in the central nervous system, and the loss of astrocyte physiological functions and/or gain of pro-inflammatory functions, due to their reactivation or cellular senescence, can have profound impacts on the surrounding microenvironment with pathological outcomes. Although the importance of astrocytes is generally recognized, and both senescence and reactive astrogliosis have been extensively reviewed independently, there are only a few comparative overviews of these complex processes. In this review, we summarize the latest data regarding astrocyte reactivation and senescence, and outline similarities and differences between these phenotypes from morphological, functional, and molecular points of view. A special focus has been given to neurodegenerative diseases, where these phenotypic alternations of astrocytes are significantly implicated. We also summarize current perspectives regarding new advances in model systems based on astrocytes as well as data pointing to these glial cells as potential therapeutic targets.  相似文献
