The goal of this paper is to review progress (mostly recent) made in micro and nanovelocimetry, focusing on two techniques: µPIV (microparticle image velocimetry) and nanoPTV (nanoparticle tracking velocimetry). The paper focuses on the measurement of slippage (taken as a benchmark for these techniques), concentrating on work done in our group. We review the developments of µPIV that led, in the last ten years, to the achievement of 100 nm accuracy in the measurement of slip lengths. Later, this approach was complemented by nanoPTV, which recently obtained ±5 nm precision. Here, we also mention recent application of these techniques toward better characterization of microgel and polymer flows. As a whole, the two techniques have conveyed valuable information on flow behavior within and close to the boundaries of microchannels, on the importance of wetting, and on the role of surface heterogeneities. µPIV is commercially available but nanoPTV is not mature. Interesting instrumental developments are expected in the future for the latter technique.  相似文献

This article analyses the evolution of independent members of French independent competitiveness clusters. It compares small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that participated in collaborative research projects, funded by French competitiveness clusters, against similar control companies that were not part of such projects and not funded by the policy, over the period 2005–2013. French competitiveness clusters seek to enhance SMEs’ size, performance, innovation and employment; the current study therefore assesses their outcomes in terms of capital invested and equity returns. The findings from a difference-in-differences analysis reveal that sales, employment, R&D investments, and value added all increase in relative terms, but financial returns exhibit significant relative decreases for the smallest companies, whereas larger firms record strong increases. The inability of the smallest SMEs to reap gains from their cluster membership should be a matter of great concern to both companies and policy-makers.  相似文献

The aims of the present study were, first, to identify the quality changes occurring in sterilized vanilla and strawberry pudding during storage at 20 °C; second, to understand the effect of storage temperature on aging; and, third, to determine if temperature could be used as an accelerating factor for shelf life or stability studies. Shelf-stable pudding was produced industrially and packaged in flexible pouches. Different ingredients were used to produce strawberry and vanilla pudding, and the resulting pH was 4.1 and 6.5, respectively. Pudding pouches were kept for 7 days at 20 °C and stored for up to 112 days at ??18, 4, 20, and 30 °C, or cycled repeatedly between ??18 and 20 °C, 4 and 20 °C, and 30 and 20 °C with a frequency of two cycles per week. Color, pH, apparent viscosity, flow behavior, and fluorescence spectra measurements were conducted up to 112 days of storage. The most relevant indicators to monitor quality changes in vanilla pudding were η, pH, b*, and tryptophan emission spectra, and in strawberry pudding, a*, b*, and riboflavin, tryptophan, and vitamin A emission spectra. Indeed, the temperature of 30 °C was identified as the most suitable accelerating factor for accelerated aging tests regarding changes in pH, color, riboflavin, and tryptophan fluorescence spectra of pudding, while cycles of 4/20 °C and isothermal storage at 4 °C were the most appropriate tests to accelerate changes in apparent viscosity of pudding.  相似文献

Ion transport through nanopores drilled in thin membranes is central to numerous applications, including biosensing and ion selective membranes. This paper reports experiments, numerical calculations, and theoretical predictions demonstrating an unexpectedly large ionic conduction in solid-state nanopores, taking its origin in anomalous entrance effects. In contrast to naive expectations based on analogies with electric circuits, the surface conductance inside the nanopore is shown to perturb the three-dimensional electric current streamlines far outside the nanopore in order to meet charge conservation at the pore entrance. This unexpected contribution to the ionic conductance can be interpreted in terms of an apparent electric size of the solid-state nanopore, which is much larger than its geometric counterpart whenever the number of charges carried by the nanopore surface exceeds its bulk counterpart. This apparent electric size, which can reach hundreds of nanometers, can have a major impact on the electrical detection of translocation events through nanopores, as well as for ionic transport in biological nanopores.  相似文献

Combinations of genetic, environmental, and management factors are suspected to explain the loss in fertility observed for over 20 years in dairy cows. In some cases, IVF is used. When compared with in vivo embryo production, IVF resulted in low success rates until the FSH coasting process (FSH starvation after superstimulation) was introduced in 2002. Increased competence associated with FSH withdrawal of aspirated oocyte for in vitro maturation and IVF has not been optimized nor explained yet. The goal here was to determine and characterize the optimal oocyte competence acquisition window during the coasting period by determining blastocyst rates and follicular cohort development. Commercial milking cycling cows (n=6) were stimulated with 3 days of FSH (6×40?mg NIH Folltropin-V given at 12?h intervals) followed by a coasting period of 20, 44, 68, or 92?h. Each animal was exposed to the four conditions and served as its own control. At the scheduled time, transvaginal aspirations of immature oocytes were performed followed by IVF of half the oocytes. The outcomes were as follows: i) FSH coasting was optimal at a defined period: between 44 and 68?h of coasting; ii) The best estimated coasting duration was ~54±7?h; iii) Under these conditions, the best statistical blastocyst rate estimation was ~70%; iv) Between 44 and 68?h of coasting, follicle size group proportions were similar; v) Follicle diameter was not linearly associated with competence. In conclusion, coasting duration is critical to harvest the oocytes at the right moment of follicular differentiation.  相似文献

Impact of drip and overhead sprinkler irrigation on the persistence of attenuated Escherichia coli O157:H7 in the lettuce phyllosphere was investigated using a split-plot design in four field trials conducted in the Salinas Valley, California, between summer 2007 and fall 2009. Rifampicin-resistant attenuated E. coli O157:H7 ATCC 700728 (BLS1) was inoculated onto the soil beds after seeding with a backpack sprayer or onto 2- or 4-week-old lettuce plant foliage with a spray bottle at a level of 7 log CFU ml−1. When E. coli O157:H7 was inoculated onto 2-week-old plants, the organism was recovered by enrichment in 1 of 120 or 0 of 240 plants at 21 or 28 days post-inoculation, respectively. For the four trials where inoculum was applied to 4-week-old plants, the population size of E. coli O157:H7 declined rapidly and by day 7, counts were near or below the limit of detection (10 cells per plant) for 82% or more of the samples. However, in 3 out 4 field trials E. coli O157:H7 was still detected in lettuce plants by enrichment 4-weeks post-inoculation. Neither drip nor overhead sprinkler irrigation consistently influenced the survival of E. coli O157:H7 on lettuce.  相似文献

In the past years, a major interest has been devoted to decrease the working temperature of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) down to about 700 °C.Apatite materials (La10?xSrxSi6O27?x/2) are attractive candidates for solid electrolytes, with a high ionic conductivity at 700 °C, a chemical and a dimensional stability for a pO2 ranging from 10?25 to 0.2 atm. A perovskite oxide (La0.75Sr0.25Mn0.8Co0.2O3?δ) has been used as a cathode material.Symmetrical cathode/electrolyte/cathode cells were fabricated by stacking layers obtained by tape casting of apatite and perovskite powders and co-sintering at 1400 °C for 2 h in air.Impedance spectroscopy measurements were performed on these cells in order to determine the electrode resistance. It has been shown that the latter decreases with the porosity content of the cathode and with the use of a composite material (apatite/perovskite) instead of a simple perovskite.  相似文献
