An experimental study is made of the time decay of activity of the CO–NO reaction on a Pd/Al2O3 looking at the effect on reaction order and apparent activation energy. The optimum kinetics parameters fitting the steady state data at moderate pressures are determined. The time decay curves are analyzed through various catalyst deactivation models.  相似文献

A case report of a 10-year old girl with a herniated disc is presented. The most significant symptoms were progressive scoliosis with a flat back and paravertebral muscle spasm. An absent H reflex on the left and an increased latency of the somatosensory-evoked potentials of the left posterior tibial nerve were found. The computed tomographic scan of the lumbar spine showed a large central left-sided disc protrusion at the L5-S1 level. Our case presents the youngest patient with documented intervertebral disc herniation and the only one with severe scoliosis and vertebral rotation. The curve was not structural because it improved with surgery and an orthosis was not necessary.  相似文献

In situ surface modification of boehmite (AlOOH) nanoparticles during hydrothermal synthesis in supercritical water was examined by adding CH3(CH2)4CHO and CH3(CH2)5NH2 as modifier reagents to the reactants. Changes in surface properties of the nanoparticles by surface modification was observed by FTIR, dispersion in solvents and TEM analyses, which demonstrated that reagents chemically binded onto the surface of the AlOOH nanoparticles. The results of SEM and TEM pictures show that the surface modification affects crystal growth and reduces the particle size and changes the morphology of the particles.  相似文献

A study of the ozonation of distillery and tomato wastewaters was carried out in a small bubble contactor in order to obtain kinetic data for scaling-up. Thus, several parameters, such as chemical oxygen demand (COD), 254 nm absorbance (A254) and organic carbon content (OC), were followed during ozonation at different experimental conditions.

For distillery wastewaters all parameters investigated have the highest decreases during the first minutes of ozonation, A254 showing the highest disappearance rates. Thus, during the first fifteen minutes of ozonation an important decrease of the 254 nm absorbance (? 75%) was observed. At further reaction times values of all parameters studied decrease slowly, eventually reaching a plateau value. During approximately the first two hours of reaction, dissolved ozone was never found, which suggested that fast or moderate gas-liquid reactions took place in the wastewaters.  相似文献

We have developed supercritical hydrothermal synthesis method of metal oxide nanoparticles where metal salt aqueous solution is mixed with high temperature water to rapidly increase the temperature of the metal salt solution and thus reduce the reactions and crystallizations during the heating up period. By using this method, we succeeded in the continuous and rapid production of metal oxide nanocrystals. A new method proposes to synthesize organic-inorganic fused materials based on the methods of supercritical hydrothermal synthesis. By introducing organic materials in a reaction atmosphere of supercritical hydrothermal synthesis, we successfully synthesized metal oxide nanoparticles whose surface was modified with organic materials. In supercritical state, water and organic materials form a homogeneous phase, which provides an excellent reaction atmosphere for the organic modification of nanoparticles. Modification with bio-materials including amino acids was also possible. By changing organic modifiers, particle morphology and crystal structure were changed. This organic surface modification provides a various unique characteristics for the nanoparticles: Dispersion of nanoparticles in aqueous solutions, organic solvents or in liquid polymers can be controlled by selecting hydrophilic or hydrophobic modifiers.  相似文献

A char combustion model suitable for a large-scale boiler/gasifier simulation, which considers the variation of physical quantities in the radial direction of char particles, is developed and examined. The structural evolution within particles is formulated using the basic concept of the random pore model while simultaneously considering particle shrinkage. To reduce the computational cost, a new approximate analytical boundary condition is applied to the particle surface, which is approximately derived from the Stefan–Maxwell equations. The boundary condition showed reasonably good agreement with direct numerical integration with a fine grid resolution by the finite difference method under arbitrary conditions. The model was applied to combustion in a drop tube furnace and showed qualitatively good agreement with experiments, including for the burnout behavior in the late stages. It is revealed that the profiles of the oxygen mole fraction, conversion, and combustion rate have considerably different characteristics in small and large particles. This means that a model that considers one total conversion for each particle is insufficient to describe the state of particles. Since our char combustion model requires only one fitting parameter, which is determined from information on the internal geometry of char particles, it is useful for performing numerical simulations.  相似文献

The Chilean Ministry of Education oversees preschool, primary, and secondary education in both urban and rural areas. Many parts of Chile are sparsely populated and there are currently over 4,000 rural schools (almost 38% of all schools in Chile) educating 9.5% of the students in the country. Many of the rural schools are small with only one teacher responsible for instruction of all local students (multigrade schools). The geographical distribution of the rural schools has not been coordinated and this has resulted in unequal utilization of existing schools and some unreasonably long travel distances by students. Good management of the rural schools is fundamental to meeting Chile's goal of providing quality education to its citizens. Seeking to improve the situation, the Ministry of Education ordered a study of the optimal location and size of rural schools with the general goals of reducing the number of lesser quality multigrade schools and reducing student travel distances while maintaining reasonable costs. This paper presents results of this study obtained using an integer linear program that has been embedded in a geographical information system. We present computational results for the entire country. Recommendations include where to open new rural schools as well as where to expand, reduce, close, or leave unchanged existing schools. We show how recommendations are sensitive to key parameters such as the cost of transportation.  相似文献

We estimate the spatial substitution bias based on the difference between a price index (PI) and the true cost of living (COL). This bias is computed at three geographical scales, using several fixed baskets and across different expenditures quartiles. Our results show a significant substitution bias for small geographical units. The choice of the base basket is also relevant for the bias estimation. Finally, the spatial substitution bias is larger for upper side of the expenditure distribution due to the heterogeneity in the consumption basket. This exercise shows that the spatial dimension affects the construction of a price index and that the approach of fixed baskets should be carefully considered in the estimation of spatial price differentials.  相似文献

Searching for adequate and effective compounds displaying antimicrobial activities, especially against Gram-positive bacteria, is an important research area due to the high hospitalization and mortality rates of these bacterial infections in both the human and veterinary fields. In this work, we explored (E)-4-amino-3-((3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxybenzylidene)amino) benzoic acid (SB-1, harboring an intramolecular hydrogen bond) and (E)-2-((4-nitrobenzilidene)amino)aniline (SB-2), two Schiff bases derivatives. Results demonstrated that SB-1 showed an antibacterial activity determined by the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) against Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, and Bacillus cereus (Gram-positive bacteria involved in human and animal diseases such as skin infections, pneumonia, diarrheal syndrome, and urinary tract infections, among others), which was similar to that shown by the classical antibiotic chloramphenicol. By contrast, this compound showed no effect against Gram-negative bacteria (Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, and Salmonella enterica). Furthermore, we provide a comprehensive physicochemical and theoretical characterization of SB-1 (as well as several analyses for SB-2), including elemental analysis, ESMS, 1H and 13C NMR (assigned by 1D and 2D techniques), DEPT, UV-Vis, FTIR, and cyclic voltammetry. We also performed a computational study through the DFT theory level, including geometry optimization, TD-DFT, NBO, and global and local reactivity analyses.  相似文献
