Damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) are well recognized as the molecular signature of immunogenic cell death (ICD). The efficacy of drug-induced ICD function may be impacted by the precise ratio between immunostimulatory and immunoinhibitory DAMPs. Tumor-derived DAMPs can activate tumor-expressed TLRs for the promotion of tumor cell motility, invasion, metastatic spread and resistance to chemotherapeutic treatment. Herein, drug-induced DAMPs’ expression and their role in tumor progression are utilized as one crucial point of evaluation regarding chemotherapeutic treatment efficacy in our study. Cisplatin and oxaliplatin, the conventional anticancer chemotherapy drugs, are emphasized as a cause of well-known DAMPs’ release from cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) cells (e.g., HSP family, S100, CRT and HMGB1), whereby they trigger Akt, ERK and Cyclin-D1 to promote tumor activities. These findings strengthen the evidence that DAMPs are not only involved in immunomodulation but also in tumor promotion. Therefore, DAMP molecules should be considered as either targets of cancer treatment or biomarkers to evaluate treatment efficacy and tumor recurrence.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The paper reports a study of chromosome abnormalities (CA/s) in the Monopterus albus near a gold mine area compared to a non-affected area. The arsenic (As) concentrations were determined in the water, sediment and M. albus muscles. The average concentrations of As in the water and sediment samples near the gold mine were higher than allowable by Thailand’s water quality standards. The average concentrations of As in the M. albus samples were lower than the standards. The diploid chromosome number of M. albus in both areas was 2n = 24. The percentage of CA of M. albus in the gold mine area was higher than in the non-affected area. Seven types of CA were single chromatid gap (SCG), fragmentation (F), sister chromatid gap, single chromatid breaks, deletion, sister chromatid fragmentation and centric fusion. In the affected area, the most common CAs in the samples were SCG and F. The specific CA in M. albus samples was SCG on chromosome pair 1. It can be concluded that As contamination caused structural CA, but did not affect the diploid chromosome number in the Asian swamp eel from the gold mine area. The accumulation of As in M. albus has potential effects on human health in consumers of M. albus from this contaminated area.  相似文献

Diamond‐like carbon (DLC) and sulphur doped diamond‐like carbon (S‐DLC) films were synthesised at different sulphur molar percentage of 0%, 2%, 5%, 8% and 10% by direct current (DC) magnetron sputtering process using novel compressed sulphur‐graphite targets at relatively low power density. Films were characterised for their morphologies, structural, electrical and optical properties. Scanning electron microscope images reveal changes in the quality of the obtained films shown by the denser packing of DLC grains at different sulphur percentage. The conductivities of S‐DLC films were found to be in the range of 6.0 × 10?3–0.6/Ω cm. The optical band gap energies were found to be in the range of ~1.4–2.0 eV. Both electrical and optical measurements exhibit nonlinear responses with optimum at around 5% sulphur molar percentage (minimum for conductivity and maximum for optical band gap energy). These trends of change in both conductivity and optical band gap energy are consistent with the variation in bond characters of the films indicated by Raman spectroscopy. © 2011 Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering  相似文献

BACKGROUND: A hot‐buffer‐soluble‐solid fraction (HBSS) and an alkaline‐soluble‐solid fraction (ASS) of okra polysaccharides (OKP) were obtained using sequential extraction. These fractions were combined with whey protein isolate (WPI) and glycerol (Gly) plasticizer to form blend edible films. Effects of OKP fraction and content on tensile properties, water vapor permeability (WVP) and oxygen permeability (OP) were determined. RESULTS: HBSS film had significantly higher percent elongation (%E) and lower elastic modulus (EM), WVP and OP than ASS film. Increasing HBSS or ASS content in blend films with WPI significantly reduced film tensile strength and EM and increased film %E and WVP. OP values for WPI–HBSS blend films were significantly lower than OP for WPI or HBSS film. WPI–HBSS and WPI–ASS blend films had lower WVP and OP than WPI films with equivalent tensile properties. CONCLUSIONS: WPI–HBSS blend films have higher WVP and lower OP than WPI film or HBSS film, indicating unique interactions between WPI and HBSS. Compared to WPI film, WPI–HBSS blend films have improved flexibility, stretchability and oxygen barrier. Different HBSS and ASS compositions and structures are responsible for property differences between HBSS and ASS films and between WPI–HBSS and WPI–ASS blend films. This study examined the impact of the 2004 Asian tsunami on 400 Thai adolescents 1 year after the disaster. Quantitative analyses showed that youth behavior problems were positively associated with tsunami experiences and negatively associated with positive family functioning. Tsunami exposure, school connectedness, religious beliefs and practices, and availability of mental health services did not predict behavior problems. Sequential regression analysis was performed with age, gender, tsunami experiences, and family functioning predicting youth behavior problems. In-depth interviews with 40 adolescents revealed many losses and difficulties after the tsunami, including death of parents and school difficulties.
